Scorecard

Yateley Cricket Club U13A v Cove on Tue 18 May 2010 at 6pm
Yateley Cricket Club Won by 43 runs

Match report Our skipper was running a little late, so Adam H tossed up with the Cove skipper and we won the toss, so decided to bat first.

Ben and Sam opened and got us off to a steady start, looking for every single going, but in the third over Sam nicked one to the keeper and we were 11 for 1 off 3 overs. Adam was next up and with a 4 off his first ball he was continuing where he left off against Holybourne. With Ben holding things steady at one end, Adam played aggressively and was retired on 30 after facing just 20 balls, including six 4's. Alex was next up and much to my amazement, accelerated the scoring rate, hitting 25 off 11 balls, including a monster of a six ! During this period of play we lost Ben for 19 and Matt without scoring, which bought Mark and Tom H, to the crease. With the overs slipping away and wickets in hand both boys looked to push things along and were caught trying to accelerate the run rate. With Tom G and Adam D not troubling the scorebook, we were down to our last pair (and Adam H itching to get back in) with Elliot and Cameron. Cameron looked a little nervous but when I whispered quietly in his ear that it was time to open his shoulders and attack the ball, he did not need asking twice ! With one of their better bowlers on at the death, Cam decided to take him apart with three fours in the last over and finished on 18 not out - great knock Cam.

After the tea interval (thanks Libby) Cove came out to bat and looked up for the challenge, scoring quickly and after 6 overs, looked like they might get near to our score. Our two opening bowlers, Matt and Alex, bowled well enough, but runs were coming at a steady rate. Our next two bowlers Sam and Tom H bowled tight, with Sam picking up 4 wickets, which left Cove struggling on 55 for 5 after 12 overs and a mountain to climb. With Sam bowling, the moment of the game was a fairly loose delivery from Sam that was hammered by the batsmen, but Alex stuck out one hand at mid-wicket and held onto an incredible catch - well done Alex.

After a fighting effort from one of their middle order batsmen, Cove ended up on 96 after their 20 overs, falling 40 odd runs short of our score.

After the match the Cove manager commented on our aggressive batting and stunning fielding & catching.

Highlights in the field included the great catch from Alex, an incredible stop from Tom G on the boundary diving full length to prevent a boundary, a great catch from Tom H to get rid of their danger man, a sharp stumping from Adam H and off the last ball of the match (with the game won), Adam D, diving full stretch to prevent another boundary. Great effort boys and our fielding was probably worth 20 runs.
