Ben Tucker

Ben Tucker

12th Feb 1995 – 24th April 2022

It is with great sadness that we must report that former Yateley CC member, Ben Tucker, 27, passed away whilst visiting his family in the USA.  Our thoughts are with his parents, Sarah and Jon and his brother Mark who were also actively involved with the club for many years.

Ben joined YCC in 2008 as an U13, he was a pace bowler who was always itching to have a go with the bat and often came in at the end of an innings to add a few vital runs.

The highlights of his junior cricket were as a member of the two squads, U13 and U15 who reached the National Club Finals (top four clubs in the country).  In 2008 he was a member of the U13 team that were runners up in the National Club Finals losing out on the top position on a run rate difference of 0.02.

In 2010 he took a crucial 4 wicket haul for just 6 runs in the Western Regional Finals against St. Fagans in Weston-Super-Mare, taking the U15 team to the National Finals where they finished third.

Always looking to learn and improve, Ben went on to play for the seniors and so improved his batting that he made 5 half centuries for them whilst being a top bowler.

He made many friends during his time with YCC, some enduring beyond cricket.  His good friend and fellow team member at Yateley, James Halson, said "he was unique; funny, endlessly entertaining, kind, thoughtful and simply someone you wanted to be around.  I will miss him immensely".

I think that perfectly sums up Ben and would be endorsed by all those who coached him including John Muir, Gerhard Pienaar, Chris Roper, Kevin Wood, Paul Adams, Brian Denston and others. Ben will never be forgotten by those who knew him at Yateley CC.
