Hook v Yateley Cricket Club U13A on Mon 26 Apr 2010 at 6pm
Yateley Cricket Club Won

Match report Well what can I say, what a match. I've been running this team now for 3 years and they do it to me every year, not one for the faint hearted.

Closing our innings at 88 off 20 overs left me feeling that this was probably not our game to win, but we stayed positive and talked about making it hard for them with good bowling and fielding, but I was thinking that we might be taking an early ride home.

Hook have a strong batting line up, which made our victory even more of an achievement.

I'll start with our batting:

On a difficult pitch with good bowling, Ben did fantastically well to carry his bat and retire on 30. Sam, Josh and Tom contributed with about 10 runs each, which in a low scoring game were valuble runs. Several of our lads were dismissed by excellent cricket from Hook and we did not do much wrong. Credit must go to Hook for keeping us to 88 runs and at one point I thought we would do well to reach 50. Max Watkins was their stand out bowler with 4 overs for just 8 runs.

Bowling & Fielding:

After the tea interval (I need to check the tea at Hook for anything illegal) our boys were really up for the fight and we talked about making them work for every run and trying to get through the first 10 overs without too many runs on the board.

Matthew has been on fire in the indoor matches and bowling with real pace and control so we started with him and Alex. Both boys bowled great spells and although we did not pick up any wickets, Hook were on 22 after 7 overs and it was game on.

Sam then entered the bowling attack and this then began to swing (or should I say spin) things our way. In his first over he took 2 wickets for 1 run and more importantly 2 of their strongest match winning batsmen were back in the hutch wondering what had just happened.

Captain Tucker then put in the best bowling display I have seen from him and after a 3 over spell he had 4 wickets to his name for only 13 runs, including a hat-trick and suddenly we were on top !!

Great bowling from Ben and Adam Doorbar (in his first game for us) kept things tight with 3 wickets between them and Hook were now down and out. One of Adam's 2 wickets was caught by his brother at deep square leg in near total darkness and when Alex passed me at square leg I enquired if he actually saw the ball.

Mark came back to bowl the last over and cleaned up the tail to finish with 5 for 18 and bowled Hook out for 66 in the last over.

Great team performance from all 11 boys and a great win to start the season - well done !!
