1st XI Match Report
Two in Two for the 1s...another good win on a lovely summer day. After losing the toss and being put in to bat (which is what we wanted anyway but now with some doubt, "do the home team know something more..."). On a good looking track and lightening outfield Yateley constructed a decent total, thanks to Dan Bone (82) and Jacques Pienaar (47) who were supported well by James Muir (37). Posting over 200 for the second innings in a row was testament to our training and work during the week. Yateley took to the field confident but aware of how quick the outfield was and that Falkland hand not lost a game this season. As always we started with a buzz and were rewarded in the 4th over and soon had Falkland 81 for 5 in 22 overs but as we know with cricket there is always a quiet period and Falkland built a partnership that we had to work hard to break, which we did taking with some superb fielding led by Manu Rawat and we took the 6th wicket on 145 and we took the next 4 wickets on a track that looked very easy to bat on, bowling Falkland out for 182 with Harry Barlett the pick of the bowlers with 3 wickets, supported by Anthony Muir (2) and Stuart Lipo (2). 25 points should have been but for a slow overrate in the field, meaning 1 point penalty. Thanks to our supporters and Sandy for scoring. And finally, Falkland for a great game that was played hard but fair.
3rd XI Match Report
Yateley romped to their 2nd victory of the season against league leaders Newbury.
The Yateley openers kept it tight and then Robin Smith stole the show with 5 for 53. Upkar Shishodia gave good support for 3 for 21.
When Yateley batted they lost Adam Doorbar early but the Jim Henstock 52 and Gerard Soames 48 not out broke the hearts of the Newbury attack. Despite using 3 late wickets Yateley got home with 6 wickets in hand
4nd XI Match Report
A big field, sun and a strong wind persuaded the skip to bat when he won the toss. Let the other chaps enjoy the first stint in the field. We got off to a bit of a flyer against their young openers. John G throttled back a little against their more experienced first change bowling and went on to his first fifty for the fours. Kier contributed and Ant kept busy till he copped a good one, then Wes kept up the momentum with 43. James started cautiously, weighing the pitch and the bowlers before accelerating to his fifty (51no) in the last few overs. 232 off 47. Wow! Uncharted waters for the fours.
After a rather nice tea we set about the task of adding to our points tally and two wickets in the first two overs got the skip all excited. But Town had decided to have a go and their young number four batted aggressively till he missed one from Ryan giving James his first stumping for the fours. But Town kept coming with more combative batting and were keeping up with rate. Their sixth wicket stand had me wishing for an extra couple of fielders to contain their number five and the momentum switched inexorably to them. Finally Ryan broke the partnership in his second spell, then two in two from Wes and we were back in the driving seat. Still Town kept going and even their last wicket partnership troubled us, keeping up the required run rate till Ryan completed his five-fer with the last wicket of the match. Wes finally finishing with four.
Well done guys a great team effort and thanks to Thatcham Town 4s for a game hard fought in the right spirit.
