Yateley CC win the Guy Jewel Cup, North Hampshire's premier twenty over competition

On Sunday over fifty YCC players and supporters descended on Basingstoke for the final of the Guy Jewell Cup (Jess left his car at home to avoid a repeat of the unfortunate incident in the semi-final when despite parking his car behind a fence and 1/2 way across a field Ryan still managed to land a ball on it!).   The Guy Jewell Cup is North Hampshire's premier twenty over competition which has been running for over 60 years.  Yateley were invited to join 3 years ago, reaching the semi-final in the first year and being runners up last year.  We reached the final after a comprehensive win against Southern Premier league team Hook & Newnham.

Excellent bowling and a stunning fielding display set up the win as Hartley were restricted to 115 from their 20 overs.
Harry Bartlett lead the way with two top order wickets but it was Andrew Niblett (1 for 21 in 5 overs) and Tom Wood (3 for 14 in 5 overs ) who simultaneously took out the middle order and killed the run rate.   Miles Covers then nipped in with three tight overs at the end to ensure there was no late flourish.  An outstanding fielding display was commented on by all, with a diving catch inches off the ground in the deep by Chris James a memorable highlight.  Although we lost Tom Wood and Ryan Bone early on, the result was never in doubt as Jon Dow played the ideal innings, batting through for 48no and Andrew Niblett hit a rapid 44 before a bizarre dismissal but by then  the game was won and we got home by 7 wickets with two overs to spare.

Andrew Niblett
was named Man of the Match and Harry Bartlett picked up an award for the Bowler of the Competition.

Well played  to everyone who played in this year’s competition.
