YCC: Highlights of the week (19th Aug-25th Aug)
The last 2 weeks of the season are lining up to be very exciting as 3 of our senior teams are in the running for promotion so why not join us at the club for an end of season celebration on 7th Sept and enjoy a curry cooked by Debbie and Stuart Hill.
Many thanks to Kelly Gore assisted by Scott Gore for producing a delicious tea for the 2s this week and for keeping me company in the kitchen whilst Jonathan and I produced teas for the 3s.
1st XI game against Burnham was rained off, but fortunately Boyne Hill scrambled over the line with 9 wickets down to beat Kidmore End. There is now a three-way chase for the promotion spot with Kidmore End leading Yateley and Boyne Hill by just 8 points. Our final 2 games are against our promotion rivals, so it will be a nail-biting finish to the season.
2nd XI had better luck with the weather, being the only team in their division to complete their match. Taking the last wicket with a couple of overs to spare saw them pick up 25 points, leaving them just 16 points off promotion, so all to play for in their remaining matches. (Mannu Rawat 58no, Liam Roper 4 for 14, Jacob Vincent 3 for 42) Click here for the full scorecard.
3rd XI kept their promotion chances alive with a good win against Newbury, picking up 20 points. The TVL website is currently showing them in 2nd place, just 1 point ahead of North Maidenhead, however, the results of their match against Falkland does not appear to have been reported/included, initial reports were that Maidenhead won, but it is now believed that the match was abandoned, if anyone knows, let me know! (Adam Doorbar 183, Jason Soames 36no, Andy Davies 3 for 40, Liam Doran 2 for 30). Click here for the scorecard and match report (also below).
Mid-week XI win the Guy Jewel Cup. Click here for a match report & photos and here for the full scorecard.
U17s
County Cup Final - In an exciting match played on the Nursery Ground at the Rose Bowl the U17s were narrowly defeated by OTs & Romsey on the last but one ball defending 140. (Liam Roper 44, Tom Nichols 37, Sam Kennett 1 for 25, Jacob Vincent 1 for 24, Rhodes Franklin 1 for 19). Click here for scorecard. Click here for photos.
2 Day game v Eversley, both teams made most of challenging wet conditions on day two to set up a second innings run chase for YCC of 225 in 50 minutes plus 20 overs, after a 126 opening partnership by Liam Roper and Tom Nichols we had to settle for a draw. Standout performances, Ist Day: Ollie Dodd 3 for 37 and 61, Jacob Vincent 3 for 34, Sam Kennett 2 for 70, 2nd Day: Liam Roper 80, Tom Nichols 51, Sam Kennett 3 for 71, Sam Sugars 2 for 27, Liam Doran 2 for 32. Thanks to John Garrett and Sally Maxfield who produce a fantastic spread of food for the boys - lunch, tea and a BBQ.
3rd XI Match Report
Won Toss again!!! decided to bowl this time!
Newbury got off to a steady but slow start, with I Akhtar & A Davies bowling tidy opening spells (Izzy was unlucky with couple of difficult chances being missed). The opposition wicketkeeper\bat (T Nicholas) was 1st to fall, having put up stubborn resistance earlier in the season in the corresponding fixture an important breakthrough (unfortunately the next 3 balls were less than impressive going for 11, I hang my head in shame!!).
A good partnership then developed between Newbury's No.2 & 3, who both passed 50 with a little help from some distinctly average catching on our part!! C Roper & T Halson replaced Izzy & myself and bowled tidy spells with no success (Both unlucky in this regard as a couple of missed opportunities and some fortunate skews into the gaps will testify). A Doorbar replaced T Halson for a short spell (very short, unfortunately his shoulder got the better of his enthusiasm). With the wicket column looking a little empty, I brought myself back on and replaced Chris with Liam Doran. A couple of wickets fell at either end (Liam 2-30, Andy 3-40), before Newbury's Innings finished on 152 for 5.
Well done to B Adams who covered for the missing H Maxfield and despite missing a couple of difficult chances did an excellent job (especially considering he hasn't kept for a couple of years)
Yateley's chase was made to look easy by a well constructed 83 by A Doorbar and a well marshalled 36* by J Soames (Your dad would be proud Jason, a future captain? in the making). L Doran (16) & R Smith (4*) helped to see the side home in the 26th over.
A special thanks to B Adams & J McGowan who bailed me out at the 12th Hour.
