Match report The rain clouds decided to disappear for a day and allow the U11 Girls to play a match and the Yateley Girls were up for the match. Skipper for the day Hannah H won the toss and decided to field first on a very green outfield wicket. A good bowling performance was needed and up stepped Chloe, her first over in her first match and she bowled a beautiful maiden over. Then came the first wicket thanks to a fabulous run out from Christa. Niamh then got in on the action with a wicket as did Christa. Wickets then came for Jess, Amber and another for Christa. Special mention for Hannah J who bowled 2 very tight overs only conceding 6 runs and unlucky not to take a wicket. All this meant that Basingstoke ended on 249 for 7.
Yateley started the run chase with the experienced pairing of Hannah and Niamh who found runs hard to come by, Hannah trying some big hitting and getting caught in the process, however the stuck at it and finished in positive figures. Then came the new girls Chloe and Amber who put on 45 in their 4 overs thanks partly due to three boundaries in a row from Amber. So at the half way point Yateley were just 1 run behind the target. Then came Basingstoke'ss 2 best bowlers again, like Hannah and Niamh earlier, Hannah J and Christ struggled to make many runs and after 12 overs we were amazingly still on 248 with the game now in the balance. In came Libby and Jess, the blonde run machines to make sure of victory. 40 runs in the last 4 overs made it a comfortable win, including a lovely boundary from jess.
The Coach Jim is now hoping the girls forget about the McDonalds meals that he promised them if they won. With this team it could be a expensive season for the coach!
