Andy’s Match Report on 3s game

Needing 24pts to guarantee the title, the day got off to a good start by winning the toss (3rd time this year)!!

Paul Nichols & Pete Mitchell (deputising for Peeble) got the team off to a great start before Pete was bowled for 21. The mighty squeak then added another 16 before deciding that square leg looked a little bored and chipping one down his throat. This brought 2 Paul's together, who took the 3rd's close to maximum batting points before Paul Nichols got out on 97. Paul Freeman (56*) & Upkar (22*) saw the 3's through to the declaration @ 231-3 off 40 overs. As for Lee, well he put his pads on and patiently waited, and waited, and waited (next week Lee).

With the spin twins of Liam & Haig missing, Ryan Stentiford boldly stepped forward and opened the bowling with Upkar (Who frankly looked as thou he was still in Siberia!) Ryan quickly made in roads into the Newbury reply taking both openers. I then replaced Upkar and tried to spin it, but after 2 overs of abuse from my team mates!!!! I decided to resort to seam up and promptly took the 3rd wicket. Newbury then built a steady 4th wicket partnership which added 50/60 runs to the total. At the drinks break a conference with the wicket-keepers union saw Lee (I can do anything Harry can do) Cresswell introduced into the attack, and he promptly broke up the partnership. Lee, Wes & myself took a further wicket each, and a run out by Wes & Harry saw Newbury 8 wickets down, but despite some tidy bowling we couldn't quite get the 9th wicket, so resorting to tried and tested methods Ryan (Slim Shady) Stentiford stepped in to clear up the tail.

Congratulations and thank-you to all who have contributed to making the 3rd's Division 8A Champions this year. I know this year has been difficult in terms of giving everybody the game of cricket\challenge they hoped for, but stick with it lads because hopefully next year will bring a few more competitive games for the 3rd's.

M.O.M Paul Nichols 97, with good contributions from Paul Freeman 56* & Ryan Stentiford 4-23
