YCC: Highlights of the week (5th - 11th May)
Sorry this is so late. Busy week.
Many thanks to Alison Bone and Caroline Taylor who stepped forward to produced our first tea of the season for the 1s. Must of been good cos plates were piled high!
Unfortunately the 3s and 4s games were called off due to rain and although the 1s and 2s started theirs, the rain came in and both games were abandoned.
1st XI - Yateley batted first but failed to complete their innings before the games was abandoned to rain (Ryan Bone 63). See below for match report.
2nd XI - Bracknell scored 176 for 9 off their 44 overs with 4 wickets for Gerhard Pienaar, 3 for Joe McGowan and one each for Liam Roper and Liam Doran. Unfortunately the game was abandoned just after Gerard Soames put on our first 2 runs, opening the batting with Liam Roper.
Ladies XI - the weather was kinder to the ladies who were the only senior team to complete a match over the weekend beating Burridge by 36 runs. Batting first they scored 148 off 35 overs (Kathryn Styles 44, Debbie Pienaar 28, Fiona Marshall 25). They then bowled the opposition out for 112 off 33.3 overs (Debbie Pienaar 7.3-1-16-3, Jasmine Zaman 8-2-10-1, Rachel McGowan 4-0-18-1). Great first game of the season, well played everyone.
U11 Girls - Congratulations to the U11 Girls who were runners up at the Cove Tournament. See below for a report.
1st XI Match Report
Yateley started their first ever season in TVL Division One in a rain ruined game v Wokingham at Chandlers Lane on Saturday. Put into bat Yateley lost Tom Wood well caught at slip to a beauty from Jono Fowler. John Howells followed after some lengthy resistance but Ryan Bone and Mannu Rawat set about repairing the damage, they looked in no difficulty until Rawat was caught driving for 20. Chris Petts joined Ryan Bone and they brought up the 100 in 30 overs with a 50 partnership giving Yateley a good base for a useful total. However, a series of loose shots brought the loss of 4 quick wickets and when rains washed the game out Yateley were stuttering at 116-7. Bone topped scored with 63.
U11 Girls - Cove Tournament
An exciting afternoon's cricket ends in smiles and awards for our U11 Girls as they celebrate becoming Runners Up at this year's Cove tournament. Click here to visit the photo galleries for our photos.
Yateley Girls were Runners up in a truly tense afternoon's cricket! The girls started slowly as they remembered how to play outdoors…it was, after all, our first outdoor match this season! We lost to Aldershot then had an uplifting win against the U10 District Girls immediately followed by a win against Petersfield. There were quick runs (including 2s!!) by Rosalyn and Sure, a dive to stop a 4 by Megan, accurate bowling which foxed the opposition including a middle stump from Kayleigh (much to her delight). We cheered on some brick-wall wicket keeping from Shannon and memorable 4s from Sasha and Sure.
At the end of the Tournament we were bemused to discover that each team had won 2 and lost 2! How would the result be worked out? We couldn't use wickets as some games had played a different numbers of players and overs. Luckily Cove had calculators and used the net run rate to reach the final result… 5th Petersfield, 4th District, 3rd Aldershot, 2nd YATELEY, 1st Cove.
All in all a great day out with, of course, the best girls. Congratulations Girls…looking forward to the rest of the League season.
