YCC: Sad to report that former YCC captain, Dave Goddard passed away before Christmas, funeral details attached

06 Jan 2014

Yateley Cricket Club was saddened to hear that Dave Goddard, a former Captain, had passed away before Christmas.

Dave was an engaging character who loved his cricket . By his own admission not one the nimblest of players, Dave focussed on what he did best : organising teams , persuading other players to play for him (which was seldom hard to do ) but above all using his cunning as a slow bowler to take stacks of wickets in successive seasons. He was never slow to recount his exploits in the bar after games. And such was his personality, he always had an attentive audience !

His bowling earned Dave a number of “Bowler of the Year” awards for the Club`s 2nd and 3rd XIs. In 2000, he was named Sunday 2nd XI Player of the Year an award which Dave was delighted to accept. He will be sadly missed by all those who played cricket with him.

Dave`s funeral will be held at 12.45 p.m. on Friday 10th January at the Easthampstead Park cemetery and crematorium, off Nine Mile Ride. Maddy, Dave`s wife , says flowers will be welcome as will donations to Breast Cancer research , a cause which they both supported. For those who would like to help Maddy and the family celebrate Dave`s life, there will be a gathering at 1.45 p.m onwards at the Chequers pub at Eversley Cross.
