Girls inter club day - 30 July

40 girls from 5 local clubs pitched up at YCC for a day of fun, cricket and getting to know one another. Girls cricket has only been around for the last 4 years in North Hampshire, so this was an ideal opportunity for the girls to chill out and gel and hopefully work better as a team at district level. Fortunately the weather was good and the girls had a ball learning to work together in their teams, getting wet and chasing the coaches! Many thanks to those that helped (Chris, Elgan & Ike) and more importantly (Laura) helped clear up afterwards!!!

Lady Taverners Regional Finals - 10 August - click here to see photos

The U13 Girls travelled to Bournemouth to represent Hampshire in the Lady Taverners Regional Finals on 10 August. A very wet day meant that the only cricket we played was a bowl out on astro courts, but the girls acquitted themselves well under the circumstances (fortified by hot chocolate!) although we lost to girls in pink PJ's bowling against PINK stumps  :-( The disappointment was soon forgotten though as we made the most of the rain and went to the beach! After a dip in the sea in our YCC kit we warmed up with chips & more hot chocolate!

Girls Coaching Day - 23 August - click here to see photos

YCC were fortunate to secure a days coaching with England Batswoman Caroline Atkins via the ECB Coaching Ambassador Scheme. We decided to use this not only to encourage our own girls, but also to promote girls cricket within the North Hampshire District. It was with great anticipation therefore that 37 girls aged 7-16 from 8 local clubs, turned up at YCC to meet the record breaking batswoman and enjoy a days coaching. The girls were split into ability groups and after a warm up led by Caroline, had sessions on fielding and batting before the rain came down. Over lunch and the rain break they quizzed Caroline on life as an England cricketer before going back outside and learning about both spin & seam bowling. All the girls then played in hard ball matches which will hopefully aid their development. Caroline then signed copious amounts of shirts, bats, cards & certificates before being allowed to hit the road back to Taunton. This day was only possible due to the huge support & dedication of the coaches from the girls section, many of whom took time off work. So thank you to: CJ II, Paul, Chris, Rachel, Laura, Tracy from Fleet, Grant, Andy, Ike, Ben, Harry, Anthony, Joseph & Connor. Many thanks too to the YCC ground staff for providing excellent wickets as per usual.

Cleaning Day - 27 August - click here to see photos

Prior to the Hampshire Womens match, the club house needed a thorough scrubbing, to ensure it was suitable for hosting a county match. Much hard work was put in by a 15 strong group of colts, including dusting, wall washing, cigarette butt picking up (THERE IS A CONTAINER guys!) litter picking and general scrubbing. After lunch and ice lollies they then retired to the second ground for stone picking before being rewarded with silly games and getting wet on the water slide.

Hampshire Match - 29 August - click here to see photos

Hampshire Women were so impressed with YCC last year that they asked to play at Yateley again this season! So on a cloudy day Lancashire Women turned up to play Hampshire at Chandlers Lane. Lots of hard work had gone into making this day a success and the boundary rope (which had mysteriously been coiled up overnight) was still being put into place and the loos cleaned when the teams turned up! Nevertheless, bacon rolls were soon being served and the famous Yateley hospitality employed to make the teams welcome and get the day off to a good start. Hampshire batted first, but were soon struggling to make runs and after 22 overs had scored only 29 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. However they recovered slightly and finished on 79 for 9 from their 50 overs. After a superb lunch provided by Richard & Sharon Mortimer, Lancashire went out to chase. A sudden downpour meant their innings was interrupted, but provided great fun for the Yateley girls who battled high winds and driving rain to put the covers on!!! (Probably the highlight of the day!) After a pitch inspection the umpires decided the match could go on, and Lancashire managed to knock off the remaining runs with a wicket in hand. An enormous amount of effort was put into the ground by Ken, John, Bert, Rob & Elgan for this game and as ever the Hampshire coaches were very complimentary.
