Yateley U15s  win the County Cup in a tense finish against Portsmouth and Southsea on Tuesday

A brilliant batting performance saw Yateley score 155 for 6.  Portsmouth needed 10 to win off the last over but were restricted to 9 and so the scores were level. Portsmouth score was 155 for 9 and Yateley therefore triumphed having lost fewer wickets.

This was a brilliant example of how every run scored and every run saved was crucial. This was a true team effort and the boys held up brilliantly under extreme pressure. Miles Covers (51no) and Ryan Bone (46) were the main contributors to the total for us, but all the batsmen chipped in.

In the field we took early wickets but the Portsmouth No 9 smashed 50 to get them back in the game. In the fading light our superior teamwork shone through and the rest is history. Every player in our team made an important contribution to our cause.

A special mention must go to Jimmy Halson who captained the side in the absence of Charlie Harris. He led from the front and held his nerve in  steering us to a deserved victory. I understand he may have a few grey hairs after this game. (I gained a few myself)

This performance showed the depth of our squad and we can now look forward to progressing towards the Regional and hopefully National finals.

Our parents gave great support and we also need to thank Gerhardt Pienaar and  Chris Roper for their efforts in keeping all focused (especially me I nearly took up smoking).

WELL DONE YATELEY,  NUMBER ONE IN HAMPSHIRE !!!
