Match report A trip to leafy Marble Hill Park, Twickenham to play Crossbats CC.
Toss lost, we were asked to field and James quickly removed one of the openers and was unlucky not to get another wicket. Shreyas bowled tidily at the other end to keep the runs down. Winch and Baister settled down for Crossbats in a stand of 91 only broken when Will Forster took a smart catch off Henry Gillam to dismiss Baister and Andre then induced an edge from Winch. Shreyas took a wicket in his second spell, but Crossbats pressed on to finish on 167-5 off 35. Target 168 at just under 5 an over.
Against tight bowling the reply struggles with the skipper and Savir edging to slip and keeper respectively. Pranav and Andre settled things, but then both lost their wickets and and at 57-4 from 15, the chase had lost momentum. Will then hit a few lusty blows before Duncan gave yet another catch so drinks were taken at 80-5 from 18.
Cometh the hour, cometh Aziz who after a few early scares settled down and played an innings of high quality, mixing lusty blows with deft glances to insert momentum into the chase. With Will at the other end striking the ball well and providing the perfect foil the partnership blossomed and YCC got home with 17 balls to spare.
A great effort against a really friendly and sporting opposition.
Again I thank the parents for ferrying the youngsters yet again.
