Match report We went along wanting to enjoy the day and left feeling incredibly proud! First came a hotly contested match v Sonning Lions which came down to the wire with Sonning getting a much needed wicket after Yateley Cobras pulled ahead in the final over. Final score Sonning 88 for 3 v Cobras 85 for 3.
Next the Cobras came up against Fleet Stokes, who were fresh off the pitch with a victory under their belt. After their opener hit 18 off 4 balls the Cobras simply shrugged and focused on their game. "You can do this!" was the phrase on all their lips. Tight bowling and fielding from all meant Fleet finished on 87 for 1. All pairs focused on the batting task with a solid 13 from the first pair of Niamh and Amber, 17 from Hannah and Chloe and 15 from the final pairing of Lucy and Evelyn with no wickets lost. 95 for 0 and a win. Time for lunch!
Next up the Finch Lionesses. This time the Cobras batted first, scoring a super 107 for no loss as well as rotating a fielder to help out the Lionesses who were one short. Tight bowling and two catches ensured a win with the Lionesses finishing on 86 for 2.
A win v Eversley was needed to go through to the semi final but we'd seen this team bat and the girls knew it was a tough game ahead. Batting first the girls took on the bowling, making the most of the fast balls and running well between the wickets. Was the final score of 86 enough? Eversley got off to a calm start against the girls but with scores level at the end of the penultimate over the Cobras needed a wicket. The batter decided to make victory certain with a beautifully timed six but the Cobras continued to fight hard with Evelyn cutting off a 4 with a fantastic dive. Final score 96 for 0.
A well -organised and enjoyable Tournament with lots of fantastic cricket from the girls who were impressive in their team spirit. Thanks to all our Yateley parents and supporters who were superb today in their support of both their own girls and the opposition players.
