Yateley Cricket Club U11 Girls Softball v Hartley Wintney A on Sat 13 Jul 2019 at 9.30 am
Yateley Cricket Club Lost by 18 runs

Match report Third time lucky in getting this fixture on, it was a big match as both teams had only lost one fixture before today. Rather frustratingly a lack of availability meant that we only had a team of six, but were determined to go for it. The coach negotiated to borrow a fielder and HW were very accommodating.
So the Super Six went out to bat knowing that they would have extra time to bat, Hannah and Imogen led the way and made 26 off the first 5 overs, never looking likely to lose a wicket. These 2 have valued their own wickets highly this year. Next came Libby and Niamh who also refused to lose a wicket, some lovely shots including a boundary from Libby took the total to 253 for 0 after 10 overs. In came the dynamic Duo for the final 6 overs. I would like to say they took my advice on board and cut out some of the crazy runs, but I don't think they ever will! They basically ran everything whether they hit it or not, making 50 runs in the 6 overs, however 2 errors in judgement let to 2 run outs and meant that we finished on 293 for 2 off the 16 overs. Aryana was the main run scorer with an excellent 29.
The girls and their borrowed fielder took to the field knowing they needed to work hard today. The first 4 overs went well with Imogen taking an excellent wicket bowling the HW opener Lauren, to make the score 222 after 4 overs and the game in the balance. Then in came a batter that was to change the game, Hanna for HW hit 5 boundaries over the next four overs and with no wickets taken the score at the halfway stage was 262 and the advantage went to the visitors. We need a strong 4 overs and boy did we get them with 4 wickets, 2 for Jess in one over and a wicket for Libby, caught by Aryana. The moment of the game for me was a run out by the sub fielder Lauren, which just showed that some kids just want to play for fun and will even run out their own team. This all meant at 12 overs the score was 272 for 5. HW had left two of their best batters to the end and between them they hit 5 boundaries to take the game away from our Girls. A valiant effort but the visitors were too strong and may well go on to win the League. On to the last couple of games and aiming to finish as high in the table as possible.
