Yateley Cricket Club Lost Narrowly Lost in Quarter final

Match report Yateley Under 11s arrived at Alton CC to take on 11 other teams from across Hampshire. The organisers emphasised this was a fun tournament and asked that people didn't coach from the sidelines, I decided that I would embrace this and gave the decision making responsibilities to the girls, they chose fielding positions, batting and bowling orders.
YCC were drawn in touch group with Rowledge and Easton and got off to a terrific start with a great win over Easton cc. A good performance from all the girls including Caitlin who played her first match for us, a great catch from Lucy and wickets for several girls. Next Up was a match against our local rivals Rowledge to decide the group winners, Despite some good moments, Rowledge proved too strong on the day, meaning that YCC finished second in the group and progressing to the quarter finals.
The Quarter finals included 4 teams from North Hampshire including ourselves, Rowledge, Aldershot & Hartley Wintney. We were drawn against New Milton CC from the New forest. New Milton were a strong team with some county players and had scored 250 + runs In each game so far. Anna was captain for the game, won the toss and we fielded first. All the girls bowled beautifully with a few wickets, including one from Anna in the last over meant that we restricted them to 233. So we had good chance to create an upset and as we set about steadily making runs I could sense the nerves in the new Milton Coach. He had expected a comfortable match and following a boundary from Aryana we were in touching distance. Going into the last over we YCC were on 231 and needed just 3 to pull of a super win. An excellent final over Maiden over from the New Milton captain meant we just fell short. As I shook the hand of the coach the relief was obvious, we had given them a scare and I was proud of the way the girls had performed. The independent umpire also praised the bowling performance of our girls which was very satisfying.
