Match report What a game! - one of the best!
Very windy (one sight-screen was blown over 3 times!), so when I won the toss (of course!), I opted to field first for a change - good choice? - time would tell.
Wargrave made a very solid start and it took us nearly up to drinks to claim the first scalp, but from that point we managed to exert some control and pull them back. Steady bowling throughout with Upkar bowling 10 straight through into the wind, and Owen and Joel claiming 2 apiece - Owen very frugal in the process. It was also great to see Izzy trundling in again after a long absence. 195 to win!
A steady reply saw us reach 35 off 10 before I was bowled. Strangely, I limped off quite chuffed as the leg stump had been sent cart-wheeling out of the ground - never had that before! Asim continued to lay the the foundations with a fine 41, ably assisted by the more aggressive Jim and Anthony who lifted the momentum before the match-winning partnership was joined. Upkar at 5 and Sanjeet (not forgetting his tender age!) at 6 batted superbly. With 3 to go though, we still needed 30 but the pair managed to reduce the equation to 8 off the last. Sanjeet on strike, he creamed the first ball for 4 - to loud cheers from the clubhouse. He then followed it with a single, allowing Upkar to finish the game with just 3 balls to spare. Great game!
My thanks to Wargrave for a game largely played in good spirits - and to Jim who fed and watered us like kings!!
