Sonning 3 v Yateley Cricket Club Sat 2nd XI on Sat 03 Aug 2019 at 1 pm
Yateley Cricket Club Won by 43 runs

Match report Well, that was some game!!
I arrived late (12:45 due to work commitments!) to see Ryan walking out with their skipper to toss the coin – but he called tails and won, good lad – we chose to bat!
It was at this point that we witnessed something that I doubt many (if any) of us have ever seen before – John being dismissed TWICE from the first 2 balls of the match – and surviving!! – the 1st, caught off a no-ball (he says he heard the call), the 2nd being cleaned up off a free hit! Undaunted, John added 87 off the first 11 with Asim before Asim holed out. Enter Pete “Sean Kerly” (one for the older viewers) Mitchell who teed off (or should that be bullied?) pretty much from ball one. John was finally caught for 45 at which point Ollie joined Pete, not just to maintain the scoring rate but to try and increase it! They added 133 for the 3rd wicket – not bad for 2 guys whose running between the wickets was, shall we say, not the best. Pete finally succumbed to a good ball (or exhaustion) for 77 and Ollie and Anthony saw us through to post a very decent total. A great watch from the sidelines.
In the field, we were immediately aware of their opener who has done us on many an occasion before but this time we remembered that he liked playing through 3rd man to deep point – and covered it! He then asked me if he could have a runner (tight hamstring), to which we agreed but only at the end of the over. However it was almost as if he was still thinking about it when Rob cleaned him up and the runner never got the chance to come out. The bowling was excellent on a pitch so much more in favour of the batting side – Joel with his nip and movement, Rob with his guile, Upkar and Anthony with their nagging accuracy and Ryan – well, we all know what Ryan can do. If they want to have a go at him, he accepts the challenge full on. They batted well but today showed once again the benefit of having runs on the board and Sonning were up against it from the start and, if I’m honest, never really looked like getting there. Another good team performance played in a great spirit.
Cancelled match aside, that’s now 3 wins in a row – watch out, Wargrave!!!!
