Match report Well, well, well ………. Basingstoke 116; Yateley 117 in the 9th over. What a difference to our first game!! Great win

We did almost everything well that I laid out in my email below. Great credit to the team for listening to the pre-match repeat of these pointers and carrying them out almost perfectly. Also. I am certain that a Yateley youth side has never bowled 12 overs in an indoor game without a wide!! Exceptional - especially as the wide lines were the inner lines not the outer ones.

One or two observations

one of their bowlers, a county lad, was as quick as I've seen for an U13. Against someone that quick, reduce your back swing and play 'dead / soft hands defensive shots'. We did rather flash hard at him albeit we did play him well on balance
Skippers- think about how hard each oppo batsman is trying to hit the ball. The bigger strong county player was intent on smashing it down the hall so post one on the end wall and pull the two 'out front' fielders back to level with the bowling crease. When a 'pusher' is on strike bring your 'out front' mid on and mid off in as close as allowed - i.e 11 yds from the bat. Fielders - be aware that it's your job to listen to the captain's instructions and to be alive to the need for these changes and move without the skipper having to keep reminding you
