Match report Lost the toss - batted!
And having had time to reflect on the loss of the match (by 3 wkts), and especially while writing out the scorecard on here, clearly I missed a trick!
Had I realised much earlier just how effective a bowler our new wicket-keeper was, I honestly think we would have won, especially as he bowled their top scorer with the 1st ball of his 2nd over, by which time the lad had already made 71. Together with their no.4, who was unbeaten at the end, he was able to take large chunks out of what I thought was a pretty good target. Ben ended up with 4 for 26 on debut but as the 7th bowler, clearly I brought him on too late. Joe McGowan, playing his first game for a long time also bowled really well. His figures just didn't do him justice.
But of course we batted first on a green track that played really well. But at 78 for 5, it was looking a little precarious until Ben was joined by Mike (Forster), and the fireworks began - 21 x 4s and 4 x 6s between them. Spectacular stuff from one on debut and the other just playing his 2nd match. This allowed us to reach a very competitive total. Brian rolled back the years to sweep consecutive 4s to round off the innings nicely.
But in the end, all to no avail!!! :-(
