Match report Lost toss - and on a hot day like that - damn!!
At 108 for 0 and with plenty to go, we were staring down the barrell. Enter Lillee and Thomson and everything changed. John snared their skipper for 60 giving the ball PLENTY of flight, and then I managed to do similar to the other opener with a bit of extra "pace"!! As if shamed by the whole thing, our premier bowlers returned re-energised. Andy bagging his usual 4 and Ryan weighing in as ever with 3. A word on the catching - 3 smart ones taken by Anthony, Ollie and Ryan (off his own bowling - like he was ever going to drop that!), and a piece of quick thinking from stand-in keeper, Simon, to effect a brilliant run out.
Job only half done of course and Ryan and Simon were sent out to build a base but we lost Simon early. However when Anthony went in, it was a joy to behold. We were 84 off just 11 when Anthony was finally dismissed for a breezy 42. Ryan and Neil continued before Ryan departed for 28. Duncan added 28 of his own with the best mis-hit 4 you are likely to see. Des then came in for his first competitive knock for 16 years(!!) - and creamed his first ball for 4 through extra cover. Neil saw us through with an excellent unbeaten 46. He also showed us how best to use the free-hit with a lovely 6 over mid-wicket (with a little help from the fielder!)
A word for the opposition - a game played in excellent spirit, typified by their keeper recalling Anthony after he was given "out" caught behind (they did re-arrange his furniture only a few balls later though). And to Liz Denston for another wonderful tea and for her help in ensuring we went out with 11.
