Yateley Cricket Club Won by 84 runs

Match report Won the toss - and with what looked like a stronger batting line-up, opted to bat first!
And how it paid off. In spite of the early loss of Simon, John was joined by Jim and they added 50 for the 2nd wkt before John was neatly caught & bowled. Jim however had other ideas and in customary fashion, opened out. Goalkeepers and wicket keepers are often compared and I think we can call Jim "the cat" ........ because he certainly had 9 lives today! Explosive to all parts before being bowled, but not before smashing 64. Then it was the turn of Noel, Anthony and Cameron, the latter pair sharing a smart stand with brilliant running between the wkts. And once Anthony departed, Asim provided Cameron with stoic support, allowing him to flourish. Some astonishing striking from one so young, Cameron finished unbeaten on 77. And that was just why he was put in the side.
Conversations were had over tea as to who should open the bowling, but for me there was no doubt. Although we had scored over 200, I still wanted to see what Reading could offer - and after Andy's first over where he took 3 wickets in 4 balls for no runs, we had some idea. Andy was immediately removed. Some tidy bowling thereafter from the likes of Joel, Ryan and Anthony meant that Reading were never let off the hook. And with late wickets for John and the skipper, the team performance was rounded off brilliantly. Well, not quite. Andy was brought back for his 2nd spell (or should that be "over"?) and he polished things off after 5 balls. A very fine win.
And a special word for our fielding - so much improved on last week, and largely due to Joel and Simon who were outstanding!
