Match report Won toss - and batted!
Pitch looked good and John and Simon gave us a steady base. Enter Jim and we had the usual momentum shift as he started to apply the pressure on the opposition bowling, only to be castled for 25 with one that kept low just as he was getting going. We were never really able to pick it up again after that, apart from Ryan's bright and breezy unbeaten 30 which included some lusty blows, as did Joe in a brief but entertaining stay. Unfortunately though, 145 never felt like enough - maybe 20-30 short?
Thatcham batted sensibly in reply and always looked in control of the situation. Our fielding was not as clean as last week, which was disappointing - the skipper holds his hands up for that. 2 bright spots - 2 sharp catches behind by Jim and a fine spell from Ryan, cementing his place on the day as the team all-rounder, with 3 for 35. In the end, 145 was probably 40 or so runs short as we lost by 6 wkts with overs to spare.
Match played in a great spirit, thanks to Thatcham for that. And thanks to Debbie Pienaar too for not only providing teas for the 2s but doubling up and catering for us as well.
