Match report This year was an exciting first for Yateley Girls as we joined forces with Basingstoke to form...Yateleystoke! 6 YCC and 2 Basingstoke girls became a force with which to be reckoned as they set about winning their first two matches against Odiham and Rowledge. 9 wickets were dispatched and a superb team spirit developed amongst the combined team. As is traditional at Tournaments cartwheels took place (off the pitch) and a new team song was composed to further bond the two teams.
Match 3 against an unknown team, South Wilts from Salisbury proved tougher and the girls had to work hard for runs from an older, (taller!) and more experienced team. Some tight bowling helped to restrict the opposition but our total was not quite enough.
Going into the final the girls re-thought their batting tactics and an invigorated team set about South Wilts' bowling; running audacious singles, pressurising the fielders and finding the gaps with some super 4s. The opening pair, Charlotte and Ella got the team off to a flying start. Aryana and Jessica kept out some deadly balls while running the byes and sneaky singles. Elise and Captain Molly kept the score board ticking over with well-placed 4s and the final pair Rachel and Nayani flew like the wind, backing up and calling superbly.

Final innings would be tough but the girls started positively, keeping their opening pair pinned down and taking their opener's wicket. South Wilts started hitting out but the girls worked hard, looking for the runouts and backing up in the field. A fantastic C&B from Aryana and some super stops in the field from Jessica, Molly and Charlotte with Ella's banter behind the wicket keeping everyone motivated. South Wilts scored the runs but the girls chased hard until the final ball.

A fantastic day at Basingstoke with a great attitude from girls and parents alike. A wonderful advert for Girls cricket....Well done girls, Runners up!
