Match report Saturdays match against Kidmore End was a brutal affair for the bowlers / fielders with 518 runs being scored by both teams in 90 overs. The Captain won the toss and put Kidmore End into bat on what looked like a wet and stodgy pitch. Unfortunately, looks deceived and the lightning outfield and some wayward bowling at the top of the innings allowed them to get off to a flyer. Andy (1 4 32 in 6) bowled their captain for 28 however the next two then put on a 166 run partnership for the 2nd wicket. John (1 4 42 in 6) intervened to finally remove the No.3 with a good catch from Andre. Despite the runs flowing freely Elliot (2 4 57 in 11) and Upkar (1 4 28 in 7) bowled masterfully and were unlucky not to get more reward. Unfortunately, controversy also intervened with their No.2 being clearly stumped off Simon on about 80, not being given and going on to score 136. The end score of 285 for 6 in 45 overs always looked a tall order but there was never any thoughts about not going for it.

Our innings got off to a brisk start and at 57/1 in 10, 121/2 in 20 and 171/3 in 30 the unlikely seemed possible. The captain (90), Jacob (42), Upkar (24) and Simon (23no) kept hopes alive but unfortunately 6 wickets falling for a total of 20 runs proved to be out ultimate undoing and, despite Andy (5) trying his best to gift Kidmore End the 25 points in the final over, we held out to the bitter end and our record of not being bowled out this season was kept intact.

Now for the good news…the 7 points extracted from this match plus the 6 point lead going into the match were sufficient to keep us 3 points ahead of Eversley going into the final match. In summary, it is all to play for and, in my opinion, only a win against a mercurial North Maidenhead side will confirm promotion for the 3’s. Eversley play bottom of the table Theale & Tilehurst in the final match and I am sure will be considering themselves favourites for second place.
