Match report I am happy to report that the 3rds were back to their winning ways on Saturday with a hard fought win against Bracknell 2’s and are now 3rd in the league behind Finchampstead (unbeaten) and Eversley.

Another lost toss consigned Yateley to batting first on an extremely ‘sticky wicket’ with a heavy outfield. Fortunately, the opening pair of Nichols and Soames were up to the task and a 57 run partnership was registered before Paul was removed for 28 by a running one handed catch. Soames (59) continued to anchor the innings and Mitchell (18) and Freeman (21) both contributed well to keep the scoreboard ticking. Ultimately Yateley scored 162 for the loss of 6 wickets in 47 overs which, if conditions stayed the same, felt like more than enough to secure a win.

From the outset Bracknell never looked like challenging for the win so the overriding task became removing batsmen as quickly as possible. Herrington and Shishodia opened with the old ball and justified this decision with 3 wickets in the first 9 overs. At one stage Upkar was 2 for 0 in 6 overs !! The Bracknell middle order put up some spirited resistance but the introduction of the new ball and the ‘old firm’ of Davies (3 for 38 in 8 overs) and Akhtar (2 for 25 in 9 overs) bought about the desired collapse and Bracknell were bowled out for 112 in the 40th over. Special mention should be made of Upkar’s outstanding effort of 3 for 7 (only 3 scoring shots) in 8 overs.
