Match report Sadly losing the toss was quite influential in determining the result and Yateley were put into bat on a wet pitch with a heavy outfield and gloomy conditions. After 20 overs 55 runs had been scored with only 18 coming off the bat but the batsmen had fought hard. Ultimately a 5th wicket partnership of 80 between Upkar (60) and James (19) and a good cameo by Simon (11no) at the end gave us a highly respectable total of 148 for 8 after the full allotment of 47 overs. Predictably the conditions improved and some uncharacteristically poor catching and a visit from an ex-Thatcham first team captain (80no) made the run chase look a little easier than it really was. An ‘absolute sitter’ was dropped in the first over off Cameron from the one opener who went on to anchor the innings and score 34 and the ‘gun’ batsman was dropped a sharp chance on the boundary when they were about 40 runs out thus giving credence to the age old adage, ‘dropped catches lose matches’. On the bowling front Andy always looked threatening taking 3 for 26 in 8.1 and the only other wicket fell to the captain who nearly had his hand taken off in a sharp caught and bowled. Thatcham passed our total in the 38th over with four wickets down.
