Match report Man of the match: C.Hume
After a ‘false dawn’ last week the 3rd’s came through in a hard fought match on a stodgy and variable pitch. The order of the day was discipline and the team responded with no errors in the field and no wickets being given away easily. An excellent performance by James Bingham behind the stumps resulted in only two balls going for byes and an excellent catch off Cameron’s bowling. Elsewhere, acrobatic fielding by Andy Davies and superb catches by Robin Smith (including one attempt that was caught on the boundary and released before stepping over the line thereby saving a 6), Simon Herrington and Pete Mitchell. Cameron Hume gave another masterclass in seam bowling (with a fantastic slower ball in his armoury) and deservedly bagged his first wicket for the 3’s. Tight bowling by Upkar, the Captain and the openers in the ‘death overs’ ensured that the T&T innings didn’t get away and only 28 runs were scored in the last 10 overs.
On the batting front, a harsh welcome back for Paul as he played over a fast Yorker (reminiscent of the Captain’s effort last week) and Pete, Andre and James all fell to ‘hard hands’ and ‘demons in the pitch’. The captain anchored the innings with excellent support from Upkar (albeit that a second run out in consecutive weeks consigns him to a ‘negative’ jug) and an incredibly mature innings from Cameron (10no) to overhaul T & T with 4 overs to spare.
