Yateley Cricket Club Lost by 8 wickets

Match report Yateley were soundly beaten by a very good Wokingham side who got their title hopes back on track.
The game was affected by the weather when the heavens opened an hour before the start and the game was delayed as the square contained a lot of surface water. The Wokingham ground crew worked tirelessly and the game went ahead at 2.45pm but 20 overs were lost. Unfortunately skipper Stuart Lipo lost the toss and Yateley were forced to bat. Lipo would have inserted the opponents had he had the decision to make. On a slow true track Yateley batted slowly and lost wickets at regularly intervals. However Jimmy Halson batted solidly holding the innings together scoring 76 before falling with Yateley only on 132-7. Sam Kennett then held Wokingham at bay with a steady 23 before Jon Sebanja then gave the total respectability with a hard hit 29no. Simon Myles was the best bowler taking 4 for 28. Yateley finished on 176 for 8 after 42 overs.

This total did not look enough as the Wokingham openers started with a flurry with ex Gloucester player Dan Housego and Stuart Parson. Jon Sebanja bowled well continually beating the bat but Yateley could not break the partnership. Parson was key to start scoring 54 before falling to the spin of Gerhardt Pienaar with the score on 88. However things didn’t get any easier when ex Hampshire and Yateley colt Michael Bates came to the wicket and continued where Parson left off. Bates added 31 before skying Kennet to extra cover. By this time Wokingham were in control and eased to an 8 wicket victory. Housego used all his experience scoring a classy 75no to see his team home.
