Yateley Cricket Club Won

Match report On a very very hot day, finally a correct call on the toss!!!!!!
We decided to bat, with J Garrett (25) & J Soames (24) setting a good foundation with the 1st wkt falling @ 50. Enter Tom Halson (23) and after a quick fire innings he was next wkt down @ 79 (a little more patience Tom & a big score is on it's way). In strode Jim "Boom Boom" Henstock (38), quickly scattering the field with mid-on & off quickly finding themselves @ long-on & off (but what's this no deep cow shot corner!!!). The Innings was safely guided to it's close by G Boughton (21), despite a stuttering tail. Yateley finishing on a credible total of 188 off 45.4 overs.

Returning to the field after the refreshing shade of Wokingham's plush new pavilion, Yateley quickly set about the task of bowling Wokingham out with H Franklin picking up 2 early wickets to reduce the opposition to 7-2. A fortunate low bounce then put paid to the other opener leaving Wokingham @ 11-3. Haig continued to bowl well picking up his 3rd wkt in his 7th over. This saw the introduction of D Atkins, whose technique was bizzare to say the least standing well to the left of his crease and walking across to his stumps on delivery. After viewing this unusual technique from one end a plan was hatched in my mind which despite some poor execution actually worked!! much to my amazement leaving Wokingham @ 51-5. With the new ball taken Izzy & Harry quickly reduced Wokingham to 57-7, and when Matt Shakespeare picked up wkt no.8 with the score @ 82, a comfortable win seemed all but assured (hmmm.. Being Yateley never assume....). Wilting in the Heat (with both H Wheeler & M Shakespeare having to leave the field due to heat exhaustion), Yateley didn't account for an Agar'esque display from Wokingham no.9 D Rosam (50) who got Wokingham within touching distance before finally succumbing.

A good performance by Yateley with contributions throughout. A special mention to Harry Maxfield who despite the heat and having to wear a helmet throughout did a fantastic job behind the stumps, but M.O.M I think goes to G Boughton who staid steady at the end of Yateley's innings while wickets fell around him and was full of running when many others were flagging during the 2nd half of Wokingham's innings.
