Match report On this scorcher of a day at Wokingham cricket club, Yateley lost the toss, and Wokingham’s captain decided to have a bat first, and so Yateley took to the field.
After a great start for opening bowler Alanna, with her 4 overs only going for 3 runs, the pressure began to show on the Wokingham batsmen and the wickets began to fall. All of our bowlers and fielders did their best to build pressure on their experienced batters and take all 10 wickets by the 25th over for a total of 90 runs. However, the honours went to Debbie and Chloe in this match with figures of 4 for 10 and 5 for 6 respectively. Alice also chipped in with a wicket. The Yorkers showed strength despite the heat in the field with three great catches from Alanna, Alice and Emma Wilson, and the bowlers were backed up by fantastic keeping from both Sue and Corinne.
After tea, we felt confident about chasing down the Wokingham total, although we were aware of the difficulties their batters had had adapting to the sloping pitch. Things didn’t start well for Yateley, with a run out early on. However, Emma Wilson and Chloe managed to stay at the crease for a while resisting the pace of their quick openers, until Emma was caught out behind for 10. The next two wickets fell quite quickly, but we were still confident in the strength of our batting line up to come. Claudia and Chloe managed to see out the rest of the runs in the 24th over, with Claudia finishing on 10 not out and Chloe on 46 not out, giving Yateley a 6 wicket victory over what looked to be a strong and experienced Wokingham side. A great result!
