Match report The Yorkers approached their opening game against the Hursley ‘Ones’ with a sense of determination laced with doom. After all, they’re not the undefeated Indoor Champs for nothing!
After putting the opposition into bat the Yorkers proceeded to display the sort of fielding usually reserved for Exhibitions and Special Occasions. Emma V, Emma C and Chloe dived with commitment (and bruises) to save runs, Laura demonstrated the perfect long barrier to ensure not a single 6 or 4 was scored by the frustrated Hursleans and a perfectly aimed shot by her at the stumps sent their number 3 back into the hutch. Rachel demonstrated the art of the left arm flick to save the single while Sue kept wicket magnificently to an increasingly pacey Chloe, pinning down the batswomen in their final over. All this achieved without a single Skittle in sight!
138 the total to beat – low for Hursley, but a big ask for us. The early run out of Emma V and the loss of Laura, caught off the wall as she began to hit out, left the Yorkers in a worrying position. Sue D added precious runs but another run out left Hursley celebrating. Together, Chloe and Emma C began to build a precious partnership and the scoreboard ticked over. Chloe retired and Rachel (Defend or Leave) stepped up to the crease. A short knock with the bat and Chloe returned to resume her partnership. The pair raced between the wickets causing the Hursleans to keep an eye on the scoreboard… all too soon the final ball was bowled leaving us on 107 and Chloe undefeated on 51.
We hadn’t won but we had enjoyed every minute…this is cricket!
