YCC: Highlights 31st August – 6th September – where do I start……………….
The 1s struggled to make runs against Eversley scoring just 115ao.
The 2s needing 1 point to secure the league, lost the toss were put into bat (becoming Div 4B Champions) and promptly went back to bed, or at least that’s what it would appear from the scorebook, bowled out for just 77 runs. See below for a team photo.
The 3s, however, skittled a potentially strong Wokingham side for just 55 in just 25 overs, which the opening partnership of Soames and Soames scored in just 15 overs.
All 3 matches over by teatime!
Meanwhile, in Newbury the 4th XI decided to show everyone how it’s done declaring on 252 for 3 – Jim Henstock 118, Pete Mitchell 94 – a 228 partnership. They then went on to bowl Newbury out for 120 arriving back at the club almost 3 hours after the 1s, 2s and 3s had retired to the bar!

Teas - Many thanks to Andy Peace for preparing tea for the 1s and to Chris Pett’s mum (please pass on our thanks) for serving and clearing up and Debbie Pienaar for preparing and serving the 3s tea.
Over 40 people have been involved in buying, preparing, serving and clearing up teas this season – THANK YOU, it makes such a difference when everyone takes a turn.
Umpires – thanks to all those who have umpired for our senior mens and ladies teams this year, particularly Chris Jacobs who has umpired many of the 2s matches, it’s a really advantage for the teams to have a dedicated umpire.
Scorers – thanks to Sandy and Debbie, who with myself have made sure that the 1s had a scorer each week, very important as No Scorer = Fines and loss of points.
Groundsmen– a big thanks to all of our groundsmen who give up many hours each week to prepare numerous wickets for all the many matches which take place over the summer – it is an enormous commitment and we are very lucky to have such a dedicated group.

4th XI Match Report
Always nice to finish the season on a high - but I don't think many of us saw that one coming at 12:30 Saturday lunchtime. Lost toss, put in, then lost Sid in the 2nd over with 10 on the board. Enter Pete to join Jim. Jim had already signalled his intentions from ball 1, clubbing a 4 through extra cover and into the bushes - it was lost for at least 10 mins! What followed was nothing less than astounding as club records tumbled. 1st 4th XI centurion as Jim racked up 118, what would have been the highest 4th XI individual score (but for Jim) in 94 from Pete - and a 2nd wkt stand of 228! Just a pleasure to watch. Declared in the 43rd over the moment Pete lost his middle stump going for the big one to bring up 3 figures. If he thought I was going to declare and leave him high and dry, he was mistaken - I would not have been so heartless! 252 for 3! Newbury were never really in it after that but played with plenty of spirit. Wickets were shared - 2 each for Chandu, Joe and Jim (can't keep a good man down), and one each for Wes, Andre, Adam and Anthony. Tried to get Duncan to join the party - and he nearly did. Only bowled 6 balls but created 2 excellent chances, only for both to be spooned in the outfield. An almost perfect day! But well done Jim and Pete - it's just great to say "We were there!"
