T20 XI – Presidents Cup - Match Report
Revenge is so sweet for Yateley on Hals(y)on day
Yateley gained revenge in the Presidents Cup Final against local rivals Cove on Sunday. Last year Cove were narrow victors but this time Yateley dominated from start to finish.
The Halson brothers were key to Yateley’s success. Jimmy opening the innings scored 62 out of an opening partnership of 104 with Ollie Soames who went to score 54. When Jimmy was out Yateley faltered a little losing Ryan Bone, Seb Sebanja and Danny Bone in quick succession. However, the team stuck to their task and eventually finished on 164 for 6 off their 20 overs.
Cove despite a good start were soon in trouble when the useful Nick Farr was run out when trying to steal a quick single and was soon followed by Jordan Finney to a fine catch by Ryan Bone off Harry Bartlett. Cove’s Voyce and Stan Marisa looked like pulling Cove back into the game before Anthony Muir took a fine catch in the deep off Stuart Lipo to dispose of Marisa. Then the introduction of Tom Halson changed the game. Tom dismissed Petersen, Short, Roylance and Thorogood and Cove were never to recover. In between Lipo dismissed the dangerous Voyce. Cove eventually finished on 120 for 9 and Yateley triumphed by 44 runs.
Yateley bowled and fielded brilliantly throughout and skipper Ryan Bone led by example behind the stumps.
Mum, Liz Halson who scored for Yateley joined her sons in the celebration proud to show off her winners medal with her happy sons!!! (see picture).
WELL DONE YOU RED HATS !!!

4th XI Match Report
Lost toss - put in! After a sticky start, it was Chandu who gave the innings impetus, carrying on from last week with a breezy 39, including 18 off one over from their best bowler. Ayush continued to show a level of maturity that belies his age as he dropped anchor with a resolute 31, allowing the lower order, the likes of Kier (17), myself (34) and Izzy (10no) to swash-buckle our way to 156 - a competitive total we thought.
And so it proved, although not immediately. 30-0 off 9 was then transformed as Kier came on to wobble the ball and claim 3 for 21 off 9, much to the bamboozlement of Cove's batsmen. Ably supported by his fellow bowlers, each of whom took wkts, Ayush (2), Izzy, Jonny and Chandu (one each). Cove fell short on 130-8. We just couldn't wheedle out the last two. A strong performance against an experienced side.
My thanks again to the ground staff, to Liz and Gary Hendries for a lovely tea and to Cove for a competitive fixture!
