YCC - Highlights of Week, 6th-12th May

1st XI start the season with a resounding win against Bagshot

A great start to the season with the firsts outplaying our local rivals Bagshot. We batted first but lost James Halson and James Wilson with 23 on the board but an excellent 55 partnership between Stuart Lipo and Andrew Niblett steadied the ship. When Stu was caught for 27, Scott Gore (22) supported Nibs who was finally lbw for 51. Ryan Bone and Charlie Harris then fell cheaply as we found ourselves at 139 for 8 - but skipper Andrew Peace (30 no) was joined by Jacques Pienaar (16no) and they took us to 191 for 8. It was a battling recovery reminiscent of some of last season’s fightbacks.

The game was quickly finished as a contest as Anthony Muir and Nibs reduced Bagshot to just 17 for 5 with Ants removing both openers cheaply. Bagshot got no respite as Charlie replaced Nibs and took 3 wickets for just 12 runs with a fine spell. We also put on a very good fielding display with Ants also taking 3 catches. Gerhard wrapped up the Bagshot innings for just 71 but the bowling honours go to Ants for a remarkable 3 for 5 in 9 overs.

The day was capped off by a very successful curry evening, with players involved in all 3 senior matches plus spectators, family and friends enjoying the food and a few drinks in the clubhouse.  Watch out for details of the next post-match get-together.

Yateley Ladies got off to a good start by restricting Alton to 115 off 35 overs (Alanna Birch 3 for 12), but didn't get a chance to show off their batting skills as the match was abandon to rain shortly after the start of their innings.
