YATELEY CRICKET CLUB GOLF DAY
Although very cold as expected, the rain held off for the first YCC golf day on 3rd January. A dozen brave sportsmen of varying abilities arrived at East Berks Golf club at 9am for coffee and bacon sarnies where we proceeded to negotiate our handicaps for the day. Kevin Wood was aggrieved to be told he was playing off 5, Tom Wood was shocked that he couldn't play off 36 while everyone agreed Chris Petts would start as firm favourite having managed to negotiate 15.
The Barrett brothers and Mike Brain led us out as the top match closely followed by Wood, Wood and Bartlett Jnr. who all smote their opening tee shots down the middle. Bartlett Snr., who wanted to play off the red tees, then proved to everyone he was right by hitting his opening shot at least 5 yards, luckily no forfeit was imposed due to the cold weather.
The low point of the round was at the par 4 12th where the threesome of Petts, Clubb and Bartlett, under the watchful eye of club president Max Kaye, all had to play 3 off the tee after slicing their drives into an adjacent garden.
So after four hours of fun we all returned to the 19th, where Max gave out the prizes. Congratulations to Chris Petts on winning with 36 points (no surprise there) and to Harry Bartlett as runner up with 33 points playing off 12. The winning team were the Wood, Wood and Bartlett trio with 77 points.

A great day was had by all and looking forward to the next one.
