YCC TVL Awards

28 Oct 2012

Hi Everyone

We have just received the annual markings from the Thames Valley League, mainly given by umpires in Level 1 and 2 games, for ‘Pitch’, ‘Discipline’, ‘Hospitality’ and ‘Best Captain’.

The club have been awarded tremendously high marks. Based, as they are, on the top three Divisions (30 teams – 27 different clubs) the marks placed us as follows:

  • Pitch – Second overall and First in our Division
  • Hospitality – Third in our Division and Third overall
  • Discipline – Sixth overall and Second in our Division
  • Captaincy – First in our Division and First overall

Pitch – an excellent result and a massive vote of thanks to Chris Geere and all of the ground staff (Ken Boxall, Rob Bartlett, John Parker, Rob Clubb, Bert King and Roger Makell) who have done such a tremendous job to give us a square to be proud of on our main ground. When one thinks that we beat Finchamstead, Basingstoke, Reading, Wokingham and many, many other top clubs, the achievement is exceptional

Hospitality and Discipline on the Field of Play – the club has put in a big effort this year to be a more welcoming, friendly club where it is a pleasant experience to play and enjoy cricket. With the first team losing the least number of games of any team in their division, we have proved that you can play tough cricket and be hard to beat whilst still upholding the true spirit of cricket. Many people have commented on the great atmosphere around the pavilion at matches this year and this is a wonderful recognition of that.

Best Captain – our warm congratulations to Chris Petts. This is an all-encompassing award but also demonstrates that it is possible to create a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, uphold the ethics of the game but still run a tough and determined team.

Congratulations and thanks to all involved.

Chris
