North Maidenhead 3 v Yateley Cricket Club Sat 3rd XI on Sat 02 Jul 2016 at 1:00 pm
Yateley Cricket Club Won by 3 wickets

Match report This week saw the 3’s pitted against North Maidenhead at their ground. The weather seemed to favour this location and the pitch and outfield were in surprisingly good condition. The overwhelming team vote was to bowl first and the captain duly obliged, won the toss and put them in to bat. Upkar (2 4 29 in 7.4) and Joe (0 4 10 in 6) bowled well at the top of the innings and kept the scoring in check with Upkar removing the one opener with the score on about 20. A decent partnership between the other opener and the number 3 saw them get to 50 odd without losing another wicket. The introduction of Jason (a newly remodelled off spinner taking 5 4 24 in 7), Andy (2 4 14 in 4) and Cameron (1 4 9 in 3) then turned the tide and NM were soon reeling with the heart torn out of their innings. Only a cameo innings by their number 6 managed to get them to the total of 111 after 27.4 overs.

It is fair to say that Yateley were a tad over confident with the prospect of chasing down 111 in 62 overs but losing Paul N and Anthony in the second over soon readjusted expectations. Paul F and the captain then stabilised the innings before Paul missed a straight one leaving us on 31 4 3. Tea fell at an awkward time and the captain was then removed LBW in the first over after tea. Pete, Joe and Upkar all fell cheaply leaving us on 57 4 7. Little did NM know that that the best was yet to come…Cameron joined Jason (on 8 at the time) at the crease and the two youngsters then played the innings of the season to completely quieten the “crowing” NM side and steer Yateley home to a comfortable (not) victory with no further wickets lost. These two chanceless knocks (Jason, 40no and Cameron 17no) were played in the most trying of circumstances and showcased once more what Yateley youngsters are capable of…well done Jason and Cameron!!

Unfortunately, the weather has unfairly prejudiced our efforts and Eversley remain 23 points ahead of us (having taken the only 25 points last week) making a win against Finchampstead next week an absolute priority.

MOM: Jason with honourable mentions for Cameron, Andy, Upkar and Joe (two crucial outfield catches and one lost ball).
