Juniors

Yateley's Junior section is one of the most successful in the area.  Boasting youth membership of over 150 girls and boys with 15 ECB qualified coaches, including Colin Justice who has run junior County Cricket teams for Surrey and Hampshire and has sat on a number of committees for junior cricket at Hampshire CC, the club gives opportunities to players of all capabilities.  Youngsters are encouraged to gain county representation with expert coaching sessions during the summer and winter.

This winter has seen a 17 boys selected for District or county squads this winter.  We actually have the third highest District representation among the 22 clubs in the North Hampshire League.

Indoor League
U13 Boys teams after a great win against Basingstoke A.  we have several teams competing in indoor league during the Winter.

U11's win the Cup
“Our Under 11s indoor squad – winners of the North Hampshire Cup Final beating Fleet by 93 runs”

“Our Under 13s indoor squad – runners up to Hook in their final losing by just 8 runs in a nail-biting match”

Last Sunday saw both our Under 11 and Under 13 indoor teams compete in their respective North Hampshire Cup Finals at Eversley Indoor Centre having come through their matches unbeaten.

First up were the U11s who played Fleet and, in the words of Colin Justice “played about the perfect indoor game and were simply outstanding”. In fact batting first they scored 142 in their 12 overs for the loss of just one wicket with clinical running between the wickets which Fleet were powerless to stop. The best though was probably still to come as accurate bowling backed up by stunning fielding saw a good Fleet side bowled out for 49 and a win by 93 runs. Well played lads – first silverware of the new season.

Next up were the U13s against Hook who opted to bat first. Again the bowling was exceptional and with solid fielding, we were delighted to restrict Hook to just 85. Hook put us under immediate pressure with their district bowlers giving nothing away. We were well behind the run rate with Hook well on top but a couple of high scoring overs swung the game our way and put us in control. We needed 8 off 9 balls with 3 wickets left but Hook came back strongly and we lost our last three wickets without adding to the score to be pipped at the post.

Both sides represented the club with real distinction showing great skills and sportsmanship – thank you lads and very well played.

Now both squads continue in the North Hampshire league competition at Dummer. In fact both played during this last week winning both their games

In summer 2018 we will run the following sides

Boys        U9   - 2 teams  (North Hants League)
              U11   - 2 teams   (North Hants League)
              U13   - 1 teams  (North Hants League)

from 13 boys are encouraged to play for senior teams when ready

U7 - Cricket training on Friday evenings

Summer training will start on Friday 21st April 2018 at Sean Devereux Park.

For those who are new to the age group system, it works like this. It is your child’s age on the 31st August that determines his age group. If for example he is 9 on that date, he cannot be in the U9s for the following season so will join the Under 11 group. If he is still 8 on 31st August even if his DOB is early September, he will be in the Under 9s. The same logic follows for the other age groups

Coaches

The Junior section is coached by a number of ECB qualified Coaches, we are currently agreeing which coaches will be assigned to each team for the coming season, so watch this space.

All teams will be able call on additional experienced coaching support from ECB level 3 Coach Colin Justice (see
Pen Picture),
The club has been successful in Junior competitions in the past but this is not the main aim of the coaches.  An emphasis on enjoyment, team spirit and good attitude takes precedence, and there is a belief that good technical coaching will only produce excellent results when accompanied by a friendly sporting atmosphere.

Coaching begins indoors every January on Sunday afternoons and continues outdoors at Sean Devereux Park from early May.
