Yateley Cricket Club Won by 41 runs

Match report the 1s opted to bat first against bottom team Kidmore End on Saturday and spent most of our innings staring down the barrel of the gun. We immediately lost both John Howells and James Muir and when James Halson and Chris Clubb also went for single figures, we were reduced to 36 for 4. We were again indebted to the every reliable Boney who found a worthy partner in Kumar as they set about repairing the damage at better than a run a ball. However, having reached the relative safety of 100 for 4 in just 21 overs, Boney was bowled by Abi Ul-Wahab for 64 and when Kumar fell for 29, a dramatic collapse ensued and in the course of the next 8 overs we were left languishing at 128 for 9. Not for the first time last pair Stuart Lipo and Harry Bartlett initially hung in, then gradually took control taking the score to 182 in just 42 overs and it came as a complete surprise when Harry was bowled for 22 leaving Skip 37 not out.

Kidmore End also made an unpromising start to their reply losing both openers to Ants and Harry for 21. Our attack has performed well all season and the accurate Ants and Harry set about squeezing the Kidmore batsmen and they got their reward as wickets fell regularly as the required run rate rose. At 76 for 5 Greg Hearn joined Jeff Sheldon and a 50 partnership to put their side back in contention but with Kumar tying up one end it was the pace and movement of Ants operating at the other end that saw Kidmore End subside to 141 all out with Ants finishing with a remarkable 5 for 17 in 14 overs, Harry 2 for 21 and Kumar 2 for 39. A great feature was our bowling supported by excellent fielding and Chris ‘sticky fingers’ Petts pulling off two good slip catches. With James Halson scoring a ton on Sunday in the 7 wicket win over Reading, we are in good heart for the start of the Guy Jewell defence this week
