17 Sept 2006 - SportsWISE UK20s National Finals
| |
|
Having dispatched Amport and Wayfarers two weeks ago to become Southern Region Twenty20 Champions
we were unable to repeat the success in the National Finals at Uxbridge on Sunday.
Yateley took on Ashton under Hill in the semi-fianls and lost by 22 runs. Ashton batted first and scored 140-9 of their 20 overs.
Wickets were shared by 6 bowlers. Perhaps we could have kept the score to 20 less with tighter bowling but 141 was still a very gettable target for our batting line-up.
Despite 5 batsmen getting into double figures we lost wickets on a regular basis and no one batsmen played an anchor role. With Jason unable to bat after braeking a finger in the field, we were all out for 118 with an over to spare.
It was a good effort, however, and the supporters certainly enjoyed the hospitality of Uxbridge CC.
Hopefully the photos will be available soon (the Webmaster's camera needs a new battery before it can download the pics!).
Then you will be able to see our team in specially designed shirts (sponsored by BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT GROUP) and caps (sponsored by Richard Mortimer's company, PMA Marketing).
In the meantime there are some photos taken by Richard Mortimer after the Southern Region Finals:

26 August - 1st XI v Sandhurst (Berks League) |

Steve Davies
reports Yateley finished the season in style
with a 53 run win in the local derby with Sandhurst to secure 2nd place in
the Premiership and put the pressure on Sonning to deliver are result in
their final game next weekend also to Sandhurst.
Yateley's openers Ben Viner and Saj Shafi looked
to dominate early with a quick flurry of runs before Saj Shafi was bowled
with 24 runs on the board from 5 overs. Ben Viner quickly joined Saj back
in the pavilion the next over. For a few overs the Yateley batting seemed
to steady, but then Scott Gore was removed with 31 for 3 from 9. Jon
Ablett again showed brilliant form with the support of youngster Chris
Tull (38). The 4th wicket partnership of 87 moved the Yateley score to a
more respectable target with 118 from 29 overs until Jon Ablett was caught
behind on 57. Stuart Lipo joined Chris at the crease and increased the
total further. Chris was next to go on 150 quickly followed by Jim
Henstock. Stuart Lipo with a quick 29 found himself heading back to the
pavilion. With the lose of 3 wickets in just 3 overs the home side's score
was looking a little below par with 153. Danny Mortimer and skipper
Stephen Davies moved the total upward to a more respectable target of 172
before Danny Mortimer was bowled. 172 for 8. A further quick flurry of
runs from Davies (23 not out) in a rain interrupted last 5 overs helped to
set the target of 187 for 8. Sandhurst skipper Simon Hards and Shallom
were the wicket takers for Sandhurst with Simon finishing on 5wkts for
51.
After another magnificent Yateley tea, the home
side tool to the field. Sandhurst set to dominate the first 14 overs with
a partnership of 71 until Pat Gilham struck with a fine catch in the slips
from Stuart Lipo. Stuart Lipo took the second wicket with a catch from
Davies the next over. Wickets soon started to fall in quick succession
with Pat adding a second to his tally and Lipo taking a further 2. 101 for
5 from 21 overs. Change is the bowling attack saw skipper Stephen Davies
take over from Pat Gilham only for disaster to strike with the skipper
being forced to leave the field with a back injury with only 1 over
bowled. Down to 10 men Yateley still managed to dominate with Chris Tull
joining the attack demonstrating the fine art of leg spin was quickly into
the Sandhurst tail end. Chris took 3 fantastic wickets with one coming
from a stumping from keeper Danny Mortimer. Lipo finished his marathon 5
over spell with a 4 wicket haul. Scott Gore finished the Sandhurst attack
with his first ball. Sandhurst were all out for 134.
With the season now over for Yateley, this has
been a great year for the club with the 1st XI finishing in 2nd place and
could be crowned champions if Sonning slip-up against Sandhurst.

26 August - 2nd XI v Woodley (Berks League) |
|
|
Dave Goddard
reports Fighting for top spot of Division 2
Yateley travelled to Woodley with every intention to bat first and try and
win 35 points to increase our chances of winning the division. We lost the
toss but Woodley decided to put us in with their own attempt to win the
game to help their survival cause!
On a wicket where it looked like 170-200 would be
a very good score and the forecast not looking brilliant, Yateley set
about the task in hand. With 55 from Stuart Lawrence, 44 from Paul
Sandford and 35 from John Muir Yateley managed to reach 222 for 9 off
their 45 overs. Woodley didn't really have any answer and with 3 for 27
from Tom Wood and 3 for 23 from Henry Wildey Yateley secured yet another
maximum 35 points when Woodley were all out for 169 in the 38th over.
Nettlebed cancelled and give last weeks division 2 leaders Ruislip
Victoria 30 points. The 35 points for Yateley now puts us at the top of
division 2 with just one game left, We are also guaranteed promotion to
division 1 which the highest divsion the 2nds have ever reached.

19 August - 1st XI v Purley (Berks League) |
|
|
Steve Davies
reports
Click here for Head shots Yateley's penultimate game of their 2006 campaign saw
the battle for 2nd place between Yateley & Purley in the Berkshire
Premiership.
Losing the toss the home side were sent into bat.
Openers Ben Viner and Saj Shafi made steady progress in the first 17 overs
with a partnership of 65 before Saj Shafi was caught on 39. Richard Saniga
was unable to improve his brilliant form with only 14 runs. Ben Viner left
stranded LBW at the crease with another impressive innings of 38. With 96
for 3 from 25 overs Yateley looked in control with Tom Lawrence finding
early runs to get a quick 27. Scott Gore was unable to beat the spin and
did not trouble the scorer with 0. Jon Ablett and Tom moved the Yateley
innings forward to 126 before Tom was bowled. Stuart Lipo provided support
for Jon whilst increasing the total with an quick fire 26. Jon Ablett
finding form late in the season moved to 56 not out, with Chris Tull
contributing 7 to the total. Yateley finished 216 for 6.
Following tea the Yateley bowlers were quickly
into their stride with Jason Housley taking the first wicket of K Roy on
the first ball of the Purley innings being caught behind by Danny
Mortimer. Stuart Lipo joined the challenge in the 2nd over with a catch
from Scott Gore to put Purley under extreme pressure with only 5 runs with
the lose of 2 wickets in the 2nd over. The Housley-Lipo demolition express
train continued with Purley struggling to stem the lose of wickets. The
Purley collapse was on with the 3rd wicket cutting the batsmen in two from
Lipo's excellent bowling. 14-3 from 4 overs. Jason then removed Caleb
Maycock with ease with a fine diving catch in gully from Lipo. The Yateley
parade continued to flourish with Jason Housley nearly acquiring a hatrick
in the 11th over. 37 runs for 6. Scott Gore tool another catch from Lipo's
bowling, with Jason taking further wickets with catches from Stephen
Davies and Ben Viner. Lipo finished his spell with 11 overs 20 runs 3
wickets to take his season total to 30 in the league. Jason Housley
finished his spell with another haul of wickets 13 overs 49 runs for 6
wickets. With no sign of the Purley players in the pavilion and an ever
emptying car park the visitors were on 82 for 9 until skipper Stephen
Davies removed the final wicket with a catch from Saj Shafi. 82 all
out.
Yateley won by 126 runs to cement their position
of 2nd place leading into the final game next week against Sandhurst.

19 August - 2nd XI v Farley Hill (Berks League) |
|
|
Dave Goddard
reports Paul Sandford really proved all of
those people that believe in his superb batting skills and talent correct
when hitting a fantastic 99 to win the game against Farley Hill.
Yateley 2nds fighting for promotion went to Farley
Hill knowing that another win was a must if we were going to keep up the
challenge for promotion. With a very damp wicket and Farley Hill batting
out for many draws this season we really needed to win the toss and put
them in BUT alas that didn't happen and they elected to put us in to bat
first. Yateley lost a couple of quick wicket and things were not looking
good at 32 for 2 with both our openers gone. However, Mannu Rawat (42) and
that man Paul Sandford with that magnificent 99 turned the whole game
round and Yateley ended up with an impressive 236 for 8 on a wicket where
175-200 looked enough.
It wasn't long before it was obvious that Farley
Hill were going for that dreaded draw that we could not afford but with
some fine bowling from Phil Mackie 11.3 overs 4 for 31 and an absolutely
outstanding catching display by newcomer Praveen Prasad ( 4 chances and 4
catches) Yateley 2nds, for the third week running snatched victory again
at the very end of the game - this week with just 4 balls remaining. It
was Phil Mackie taking his 4th wicket and Praveen taking his 4th catch
that saw us home with Farley Hill all out for 145. The maximum 35 points
now puts Yateley 2nds in second place in Division 2 just one single point
behind Ruislip Victoria with just two more games left.
Another extremely exciting game of cricket!

12 August - 2nd XI v Stoke Row (Berks League) |
|
|
Dave Goddard
reports Another exciting game against our old
friends Stoke Row saw Yateley 2nd XI pull off a fantastic and amazing
victory to secure a maximum 35 points and keep our promotion hopes very
much alive.
Having won the toss Yateley elected to bat first.
With magnificent performances from Scott Gore with a majestic 99 and Mannu
Rawat a superb and impressive 115, Yateley reached 307 for 7 from the
allocated 45 overs.
In reply, Stoke Row started off very well and
after 10 overs were not far off the asking rate without loss. Mannu Rawat
took a couple of very important wickets including the scalp of the
talented Johnny Clarke for just 4. Tom Wood continued his great run with
the 2nds and took 3 for 31 from 5 overs to put us in with a slim chance
of, what was looking like, an unlikely victory. Henry Wildey bowled
superbly with figures of 5 overs 0 for just 17 but Stoke Row were now only
interested in the draw.
All changed when new comer Praveen Brebeen came on
with just six overs remaining and Yateley still needing three wickets to
take. Stoke Row's Richard Ashton was well in on 60+ and putting up stern
resistance. Praveen didn’t start well conceding 11 runs in his first over.
He turned to spin in his second over and took a wicket first ball with a
superb catch taken by wicket keeper James Chandler. In the same over Scott
Gore took a magnificent reflex catch to give Praveen his second wicket.
Stoke Row now needed to bat out three overs with just one wicket
remaining. Praveens very first ball of the penultimate over was superb and
clean bowled Row's Richard Ashton to give us the victory we needed. It was
a great result with Praveen finishing up with figures of 2.1 overs 3 for
11. |
| Sat 5
August - 2nd XI v Harlington 1st XI (Berks League) |
|
|
Dave Goddard
Reports With 4 of the planned top six batting
order not playing due to varied reasons, it was an apparent depleted
batting side travelling to top of the league Harlington.
In a MUST WIN situation to have a chance of
winning promotion Dave Goddard decided to bat first in an attempt to gain
maximum 35 points. John Muir continued his outstanding season with a
superb 113 not out carrying his bat through the innings and making his
first century for Yateley. Supported by an excellent and quick 30 by James
Chandler late in the innings and contributions of 19, 14, 14, 13 and 12
from Mannu Rawat, Praveen Brebeen, Stuart Skeates, Tom Wood and Will Moore
respectively, Yateley reached 243 for 8 off their allocated 45 overs.
Now all we had to do was bowl them out. Harlington
is a strong all round team riding high at the top of the Division and with
what seemed like a strong Yateley bowling side we set out very hopeful of
victory. We did not start well at all and with this poor start Harlington
were 58 for 0 off the first 10 overs and ahead of the required rate
already. With some uncharacteristically poor fielding and not so great
bowling initially, things were not looking good and Harlington were very
much in with a chance of depriving us of a win.
The introduction of young Henry Wildey into the
attack wickets began to fall (7 overs 4 for 23). Mannu Rawat bowled 13
overs 3 for 52 to help the cause. Despite some shabby ground fielding and
under par bowling Yateley took some great catches, (seven no less) J Muir
2, W Moore 2, Praveen 1 Tom Wood 1 and Dave Goddard 1.
With 8 overs left Harlington needed 60 with three
wickets in hand. Dave Goddard came on with a short spell taking one of
those wickets but we just couldn't seem to get the last couple. In a last
attempt to secure victory Henry Wildey and Phil Mackie were brought back
to bowl the last 4 overs with the 243 target now seeming out of
Harrington's reach it was all out attack! Henry managed to get his 4th
wicket at this stage with a fine pressure catch from newcomer Praveen
Brebeen which meant one wicket left with just two overs to go. With the
last ball of the penultimate over it was that man Muir again taking a
close in catch off Phil Mackie's bowling which secured the victory and 35
points. |

Dave Goddard
Reports Yateley 2nds bounced back in a BIG
way on Saturday and we witnessed an all round team performance where
everyone, all played well and there were some
outstanding personal performances yet again.
Winning the toss Dave Goddard decided to bat first
and with a superb 135 not out by Scott Gore (his first league century
would you believe), 61 from Mannu Rawat and an unbeaten 45 from George
Lunt, Dave declared on 284 for 2 off just 39 overs giving us extra overs
to bowl them out and hopefully secure maximum points. Yateley didn't
need the extra overs as Stuart Skeates 9 overs 5 for 35 and young Tom Wood
5 overs 3 for 8 eased through Nettlebeds batting like a hot
knife through butter. In reply Nettlebed could only manage 97
before the last wicket was taken by Phil Mackie.
Alex Barker made a welcome and "looking good"
return to YCC and new man Corey Hines quickly fitted into the team very
well and showed a lot of potential with bat and ball but with the
outstanding performances by Scott, Mannu, George, Stuart and young Tom,
the rest of were not needed to do much more than enjoy and support.
Yateley scored the maximum 35 points and Nettlebed were reduced to just 2
points but they were a great bunch of guys and we wish them luck
& success for the future as they continue through their rebuild phase.

15 July - 1st XI v Theale & Tilehurst (Berks League) |
|
|
Steve Davies
Reports Yateley travelled to Theale &
Tilehurst this week looking for a 4th consecutive win. Losing the toss YCC
were put into bat.
An aggressive start from Ben Viner and supported
by Saj Shafi pushed the visitors to 44 without lose on the 8th over before
Saj made his way back to the pavilion. Richard Saniga came into the attack
with a slow start but soon found form with multiple boundaries finishing
just short of a half century on 47. Run slowed for a short time as T&T
slowed the attack with spinner from both ends, Tom Lawrence provided Ben
with further support with a quick fire 24. Stuart Lipo supported Ben to
his first 1st XI league century before Ben was bowled on 101 with 219 from
28 overs. Lipo gained momentum quickly reaching 41 before being run out
just short of the crease. The next 3 wickets fell over the space of 5
overs. Skipper Stephen Davies provided additional runs to the total with a
quick flurry of 4's finishing 22 not out. Cooper was the pick of the
T&T bowlers finishing with 5 wickets. T&T were unfortunate in the
field half way through the game losing one of their players with a
suspected Hamstring injury, although T&T players did question that
this injury was probably due to a couple of mistakes from the fielder, but
resulted in only fielding with 10 for the later part of the innings.
Following a magnificent tea T&T seemed to
settle in with 30 for 0 from 7 overs. Lipo took the first wicket in the
8th over of T&T key batsman Stephens for just 9 runs. Lipo then
proceeded to demolish 3 further wickets in the next over with a near
hatrick. Patrick Gilham persisted at the other end with great pace but was
unlucky not to make early inroads. Lipo secured his 5th wicket in his 8th
over with Pat Gilham taking his well deserved first the following over.
T&T were now in trouble with 62 for 6 on the board with only 3 wickets
remaining. Davies was unable to make any impact and Chris Tull was
immensely unlucky with 2 drop catches and a dubious pad-bat catch not
being given. Richard Saniga was brought on to mop up the tail with ease
taking 3 wickets. Catches from Shafi (2), Ablett, Lawrence and Gilham
provided the bowlers with support required. T&T finished all out for
114 on the 30th over. With 35 points Yateley have cemented in 3rd place
looking to minimise the gap within the top 3.
Yateley entertain Shinfield at home next Saturday.

11 July - 1st XI v Eversley (Aylward Plate Final) |
|
|
What a fantastic
game! Yateley broke all records in beating local rivals Eversley in the
final of the Aylward Plate by 156 runs. A staggering margin for a 15 over
(8 balls per over) match.
Richard Saniga and Saj Shafi put on 200 for the
first wicket in the 12th over. Richard scored 131, mostly in 6's it seems.
When Ben Viner, skipper for the evening, came in at number 3 the scoring
rate didn't drop as he and Saj both continued to plunder the , now
dejected, Eversley bowing attack. Yateley didn't lose another wicket and
finished on 271-1. Saj finished on 83 not out and Ben 46 not out.
There was no way Eversley had any chance of
getting the runs, especially against yateley's attack and maanged just 115
for 7 in their 15 overs. Jason Housley took 3-8, Pat Gilham 2-48, Richard
Saniga 1-13 and Chris Tull 1-7.

July - 1st XI v Peppard |
|
|
Steve Davies
reports After a refreshing weekend off,
Yateley were back in business looking to secure a revenge win over 3rd
place Peppard as the season moved into the 2nd half.
Winning the toss Yateley took to the field, with
an impressive start Peppard moved to 51 without lose until Jason Housley
(12.1-4-48-6) struck with his first of 6 wickets. Peppard captain Hugh
Asquith looked resilient with 41 until Housley removed him caught behind
by Saj Shafi. Jason and Richard Saniga (12-3-38-2) were quickly into the
Peppard top 7 with 5 more wickets including the Vine brothers for less
than 35 runs being added to the visitors score at 86 for 7. Bacon and
Mayers provided a 8th wicket partnership of 51 with Stephen Davies
(5-0-25-2) removing the destructive Mayer with a classic slower ball.
Jason Housley was brought back into the attack and with his first ball
removed the Peppard number 11. Again the Yateley bowling and fielding was
fantastic with 9 of the wickets being catches from Saniga (3), Shafi (2),
George Lunt (2), Tom Lawrence and Jon Ablett. Peppard finished on 173 all
out from 41 overs.
With a turnaround before tea openers Ben Viner and
Saj Shafi were quickly into the flow with an impressive 35 from 9 overs.
The first wicket partnership was finally broken on 111 with Shafi
returning to the pavilion for a well crafted 65. Richard Saniga got into
the Peppard attack with an impressive 43 not out with Ben Viner finishing
a quality innings of 58 not out with 174 on the scoreboard for the lose of
1 wicket from 28 overs. Yateley take 30 points from 3 successive
convincing wins on the trot, which moves them into a definite 3rd place
spot ahead of next weeks away game to Theale & Tilehurst.

| Tues
4 July - Yateley v Frimley (Aylward Plate SF) |
|
|
Stuart Lipo
reports Yateley won the toss and decided to
bat, opening with Saj Shafi and Richard Saniga, who put on 50 off 5 overs,
Richard made 38 before being bowled. The run rate dropped with some tight
bowling from Frimley, but with Andy Ward and Stuart Lipo coming to the
crease, the run rate increased (Stuart Lipo 27 off 10 balls, and Andy Ward
29). Yateley scored 143 all out.
Yateley took to the field in high spirits and were
looking to take some revenge for their loss to Frimley a few weeks back in
the Sunday League match. Pat Gilliam ripped through the top order with
sheer pace and controlled aggression, Pat taking 3 for 18 from his 4
overs. Richard then replaced Pat and had the same control and
aggression which once again proved to much for the Frimley batsmen,
Richard taking 4 for 7 in 2 overs. Andy Ward taking 1 for 23 off 4
overs. Stuart Lipo taking 1 for 13 in 1.3 overs. With Richard
adding a runONT out to his name. Frimley were bowled out for 64
runs.
Yateley are in the final for the 4th time in 5
years, hoping to eclipse the memories of last years final. The final is
against Eversley at Hartley Wintney on Tuesday 11 July. |
| Sat 1
July - Yateley 2nd XI v Welford Park |
|
|
Dave Goddard
reports Due to delays on the M4 Yateley
arrived slightly late and despite letting the oppo know they decided to
enforce the rule that we had to lose the chance of tossing and on a very
very hot day and the football on they decided to make us field first. Our
heads were down when Welford had reach 115 for 0 after just 17 overs and a
total in excess of 300+ looked very likely. But with true fighting spirit
and pace taken off the ball Yateley fought back brilliantly with fine
spells from Tom Lawrence and Dave Goddard ( Tom 10 overs 4 for 44 and Dave
14.4 overs 3 for 61 plus a good run out off his own bowling) this reduced
Welford Park to just 214 all out off 42.4 overs leaving our in form
batsmen to get the runs in 47 overs. Well what happened next was quite
extraordinary and a Division two record breaking partnership - Scott Gore
and Saj Shafi opened the batting for Yateley and scored the highest
opening partnership in the division ever recorded. They performed
brilliantly in the heat and scored the required runs 216 without loss in
just 35 overs and so what seemed like a possible losing situation ended up
"a walk in the Welford Park " the Yateley lads. Yateley scored 30 points
and Welford Park just 5 and we have now moved up to 4th place in the
Division from being second to bottom just three weeks ago. Fantastic team
spirit prevailed yet again! |

24 June - Yateley 2nd XI v Woodley |
|
|
Dave Goddard
reports Winning the toss Dave Goddard decided
to bat first as even if we did the same as the previous week and gain a
winning draw this would mean that we would climb above Woodley in the 2nd
division table. It was Scott Gore and Mannu Rawat again with the bat for
us as they posted 58 and 85 respectively and with 20 from Jim Henstock
Yateley reached 224 all out after 44 overs. We should have put on at least
a further 50 runs but we fell apart a bit lower order and we thought that
this total may not be enough against a strong batting side and a super
batting track. However Goddard Rawat and a super 6 over spell from Tim
Moore meant that Woodley could never get into the match and all they could
master was just 152 for 8 after their 46 overs. Best bowling figures -
Dave Goddard 13 overs 3 for 45, mannu Rawat 14 overs 3 for 27 and Tim
Moore a super 6 overs 1 for 11. Yateley scored 24 points and reduced
Woodley to just 9. |
| Sat
17 June - Yateley 2nd XI v Farley Hill 1st XI |
|
|
Dave Goddard
reports Yateley lost the toss and were put
into bat which was top of the league Farley Hill's first mistake. With 65
from Scott Gore, 54 from Phil Mackie, 51 not out from Stuart Lawrence, 36
from Mannu Rawat and 49 from Will Moore Yateley put on 274 for 5 after
their 45 overs. Dave Goddard wanting to at least secure a winning draw to
start their climb back up the division decided not to take the new ball
initially and try and put them under pressure by tight slower bowling
initially and it worked. Farley never looked like getting close and they
could only achieve 199 for 6. Best of the bowling figures - Dave Goddard
11 overs 1 for 34 and Mannu Rawat 10 overs 1 for 39, Yateley achieving 23
points and reducing Farley to just 7 points. |
| Sat
24 June - 1st XI v Sandhurst |
|
|
Steve Davies
reports Following last weeks fantastic win
over Purley, Yateley looked forward to the local derby against Sandhurst
looking for a win.
Losing the toss Yateley were put into bat.
Sandhurst were soon on top with the early wicket of opener Chris Tull (4)
with 11 on the scoreboard within the 2nd over. Ben Viner (20) continued to
work the runs whilst Richard Saniga ripped into the Sandhurst bowling
attack with a second wicket partnership of 76. Viner walked following the
slightest of nicks to the awaiting keeper. Jon Ablett (17) supported
Richard who continued to pile on the pressure with 90 runs from 74 minutes
with 14x 4's and 2x 6's. Ablett was next to go quickly followed by Saniga
with 158 for 4. Yateley looked in a commanding position until the quick
lose of Lipo (10) and Mortimer (0) John Muir (14) batted resilient to
ensure maximum use of overs with skipper Davies adding a quick 26 runs to
the Yateley total. Lunt (6) and Gilham (7) added to the Yateley total but
with quick lose of wickets. Muir and Bone having been set the task of
using up the overs were unable to build the total any further finishing
218 all out from 37.3 overs. M Pharo and Tutty were the pick of the
Sandhurst bowlers with 3 wickets each supported well by a hatrick of
catches from keeper C Pharo.
With 52 overs to bat Sandhurst lost the early
wicket of Goonawardener with 2 runs on the 3rd over with Lipo taking a
catch in the slips from Pat Gilham who had just returned fresh from uni.
Saunders and Sussex soon started to build a great partnership of 51 until
Lipo struck for his first of 5 wickets with Mortimer taking a key catch
behind the stumps. Saniga (13-5-23-0) was unable to add to his seasons
wicket tally. Fortune shone on Yateley with a runout as skipper Davies
fired in a direct hit to remove Tutty without facing a ball. Short while
later Davies nearly claimed his second runout with another direct hit but
batsmen was given the benefit of the umpires decision. Lipo (12.2-3-39-5)
soon took control of the Sandhurst batsmen taking further wickets with
catches from Saniga, Mortimer. Davies (5-1-18-2) joined the wicket takers
with catches from Ablett and Gilham. Baloch offered the only resistance
with a quick fire 14 until Davies struck with another runout with the
assistance from Lipo. The final wicket provided Lipo with his 5th wicket
and 35 points in the bag. Proving that last weeks win against Purley was
certainly not a shock as Yateley took their second convincing win in the
past 2 weeks.
The 1st XI are looking forward to a week off to
relax and get ready for the second half of the season with the visit of
Peppard. |

(4-30), Richard Saniga (1-17), Stuart Lipo (1-5) and Rob Barrett (1-13).
In form Richard Saniga hit 52 not out as Yateley overhauled the target for
the loss of just 3 wickets. |

Steve Davies
reports Following the excellent game against
Sonning last week, Yateley looked to build on the points chase to maintain
position in the top 4.
Yateley out this visitors into bat. The first
wicket fell in the 3rd over followed quickly by the 2nd in the 8th until a
mammoth partnership between Searanche (48) and Bray (54) of 92 moving
Mortimer to 118 for 2 on the 28th over. Richard Saniga (14-1-41-4) again
proved Yateley with an excellent spell supported by Stuart Lipo
(14-0-71-3). Catches from T Moore (2), John Muir, M Rawat & Lipo
provided the bowlers with further support. Mortimer finished on 224 for
8.
Yateley were off to a flying start with 39 from 9
overs until Lipo (12) was caught behind. Ben Viner came back to form with
a quick fire 38 before being left stranded for an LBW. Richard Saniga
continued his fine form with the bat with an explosive 43 runs. Yateley
seemed to be cruising with a ? run against the overs targets. Tom Lawrence
(31) got off to a slow start following his return from Uni and assisted
with keeping the run rate at a positive. The innings quickly started to
slow up in the mid stage putting pressure on the Yateley batsmen to keep
runs ticking. Wickets soon started to fall at a also ever reducing run
rate. The last 5 overs saw the hosts requiring 30 runs with 3 wickets
remaining. A quick hit from skipper Stephen Davies (10) and Robbie Barrett
(15) for the 9th wicket brought Yateley closer to victory. The last over
required 13 runs to win with 1 wicket remaining, with 3 balls left 5 runs
were required until Robbie hit high into the waiting hands of Mortimer
mid-off to gift the visitors 35 points. Paul McGee was the key bowler for
Mortimer with 4 wickets from his 15 overs.

17 June - 1st XI v Purley |

Steve Davies
reports Yateley were looking to get back into
winning ways following last week's defeat. Current top of the table Purley
won the toss on a glorious afternoon deciding to bat.
Purley got off to a slow start with 24 runs from
10 overs on the board, wickets soon started to fall as Purley's batsmen
kept to an aggressive shot programme which became their undoing. Jason
Housley (9-3-32-3) provided he could perform in the 1st XI with 3 quick
wickets including Purley key batsmen Livingstone for just 4. Richard
Saniga (15-5-32-3) bowler accurately throughout his 15 overs with wickets
coming late on in his spell also picking up 3 wickets. Jon Ablett claimed
a simple run out through a suicidal run from Purley's Narajah. Only P
Allen (33) & Caleb Maycock offered some resilience with a typical
quick fire crash of 22 runs until he was caught in the deep from skipper
Stephen Davies (6.4-0-32-3) by Jon Ablett. Fielding display was fantastic
with catches from Saj Shafi (2), Jon Ablett (2), Danny Mortimer, Richard
Saniga and Ben Viner. Purley were finally bowled out for 101 on the 32nd
over.
Yateley's batting got off to a quick start with 17
runs from 4 overs before the first wicket fell. Runs continued to build
but with a short steady loss of wickets as Purleys bowlers persisted with
fast accurate bowling. At tea the visitors looked in a strong position
with 63 runs for 3 on the 9th over, straight after tea further wickets
fell including Richard Saniga with a finally crafted 39. The Yateley
batsmen steadied the wicket loss whilst working the runs as it was left to
young guns Chris Tull and Danny Mortimer to steer Yateley to victory on
the 27th over with the lose of 6 wickets.
The 1st team travel away to Sandhurst next week
for the local derby and ready to build on the successful win over Purley.

June - 1st XI v Sonning |
|
|
Steve Davies
reports Sonning got off to a cracking start
with openers Mark Richards (51) and Clayson (33) building a first wicket
partnership of 80 from 15 overs. Yateleys bowlers soon started to gain the
rhythm with wickets starting to fall for Sonning with 115 for 5 from 24
overs. Again Stuart Lipo (14-0-88-3) and Richard Saniga (15.4.51.2). Ayub
(35) and Abbas (40) stabilised the Sonning attack until Ayub was caught in
the deep. Phillips supported Abbas to build a middle order partnership of
56 before Abbas was caught in the deep by Jon Ablett from bowling of
skipper Stephen Davies (6.0.24.1). Chris Tull was the pick of the Yateley
bowlers with some excellent leg spin finishing with 4 wickets. With an
extremely strong fielding display catches from Richard Saniga (3),
Mortimer, Bone, Rawat, Ablett and Davies saw Sonning return to the
pavilion all out for 206.
Yateley saw the lose of the first wicket in the
2nd over but quickly stabilised with a key innings between Richard Saniga
(19) and Mannu Rawat (23). Yateley steadily piled on the runs through the
accurate and efficient bowling attack of Abbas (3 wickets) and Grout (5
wickets). Runs slowed in the middle stage of the innings with Stuart Lipo
(22) keeping Yateley form losing further wickets. Jon Ablett (38) showed
grit in his innings although wickets were starting to fall around him
before losing his wicket on the 41st over. Skipper Stephen Davies hit a
quick fire 30 supported by Danny Bone to build a last wicket partnership
of 36, providing Yateley with the losing draw. Sonning could not
capitalise on the bat swishing of the Yateley skipper including a dropped
catch in the slips in the penultimate over. Yateley finished on 178 for 9.

20 May - 1st XI v Shinfield |
|
|
Steve Davies
reports The 1st XI outplayed Shinfield to
gain a winning draw (with 23 points) to move to 3rd in the Premier
Division. If Yateley had batted second the story would have been different
....
With a rain delayed start of 2pm and a moist
pitch, both teams were keen to get into the field first. Unfortunately,
Shinfield won the toss and elected to bowl first. Yateley were pegged back
in the first 4 overs with 2-ton Stuart Lipo quickly out for 0 in the 3rd
over with no runs on the board. New addition Richard Saniga showed his
worth with a powerful 78, supported by a watchful 16 from Ben Viner. Ben
was bowled in the 10th over and a couple of balls later Jon Ablett went
for a duck after a controversial decision caught down leg side. Mannu
Rawat and Richard steadied the Yateley batting with a superb partnership
of 110. Mannu batted masterfully for his 60. Chris Tull continued to show
exceptional form with a quick fire 22 before a late collapse saw Yateley
all out for 205 (off 45 overs).
With darkness setting in and more overcast clouds
looming, Yateley took to the field at 5.45 following what seemed to be a
long fielding spell by the home side. Keen to ensure a game Yateley’s
immediate target was to get to 20 overs quickly before the rain returned.
Stuart Lipo (6 overs 2 maidens 9 runs 0 wickets) and Robbie Barrett (6 1
21 1) commenced the bowling attack facing a resilient opening Shinfield
pair. After many close calls Yateley broke through in the 8th with another
fine Chris Tull catch from Robbie's bowling. Stephen Davies (9 1 26 1) and
Mannu Rawat (5 1 19 1) made runs difficult for the opposition.
Richard Saniga (8 3 7 1) had a magnificent spell,
beating the bat frequently. Chris Tull (3 0 26 0) again provided variation
with his turning leg spin, but could not provide a badly needed
breakthrough. Shinfield were left on 139-5, just short of a losing
draw.
YCC are looking forward to host Swindon NALGO next

20 May - 3rd XI v Pinkneys Green |
|
|
Andy Davies
reports The 3rd XI gained a comfortable win
at Watchetts against Pinkneys Green to move to 4th in Division 5.
With another rain affected amcth play got underway
at 2:10. Delighted with winning the toss Pinkney's put Yateley into bat on
a difficult wicket. After the early loss of Barry Ward (2) a stabilising
partnership was put together by Simon Froud (20) and Paul Sandford (24).
They were backed up by solid inning's from Jim Henstock (33), Praveen
(10), Wes Day (20) & Izzy Akhter (23), taking Yateley up to a
respectable 155.
With plenty of overs to spare Pinkney's failed to
capitalise on their advantage and after 12 overs found themselves 12 for
1, with good tight wicket to wicket bowling from B Swingler-Brown
(5-2-9-0) & A Davies (7-5-3-1). Not wishing to be out done Wes Day
(9-2-23-3) & Izzy Akhter (6.2-1-18-5) soon whipped through the
Pinkney's batting line-up skittling them for 58.
Champagne moment of the match was James Muir's
superb low catch at gully to dismiss Pinkney's main all-rounder. All in
all an excellent team performance, in which everybody contributed, and a
good sign for the coming season. |

|
Steve Davies
reports The home team looked forward to
T&T's second visit to the YCG in 3 weeks hoping for to add a league
win over the visitors.
After losing the toss Yateley were put into bat
and what looked to be fantastic wicket. Ben Viner (9) and Stuart Lipo (120
not out) started well with a 1st wicket partnership of 44 from 11 overs
before Ben was out LBW following a great holding role. Mannu Rawat (5)
showed early promise with a perfect cover drive for 4 before being caught
in the slips. Jon Ablett (32) provided Lipo with further support taking
the total to 116 before Jon was bowled just after changing his bat. Runs
started to slow down with the early lose of Chris Tull (0) quickly
followed by John Muir (8) stumped. Dave Regan (20) provided some classic
shots and some slippery shoes, before also falling fowl to the quick hands
of T&T keeper Jenkins with his second stumping of the game. Skipper
Stephen Davies (1) went quickly in the last few overs with Danny Bone (1
not out). Stuart Lipo carried his innings for a well deserved 120 not out,
following on from his 120 not out on T&T's previous visit.
Taking the field Yateley opening bowlers Mannu
Rawat (9overs 24runs for 1 wicket) and skipper Stephen Davies (12overs 39
runs for 3 wickets) bowled effectively against a resilient opening
partnership until the skipper provided Yateleys first wicket at 44 runs
from 12 overs. Mannu quickly succeeded with the 2nd wicket falling at 45
runs with the third wicket falling from Stephen's potent bowling with a
well juggled catch in the slips by Ben Viner. T&T's 3rd wicket went
quickly at 56 again quickly followed by a 4th at 56 from Mark Joubert
(6overs 22 runs 1 wicket). Dave Regan (8 overs 16 runs for 2 wickets) and
Chris Tull (4overs 13 runs 2 wickets) with a catch from Lipo. The final
wicket was taken by Man of the Match Stuart Lipo (1.1 overs 2 runs 1
wicket) with a finally taken catch in the slips by Mannu Rawat to see
T&T bowled out for 119 from 41 overs. Everyone in the team contributed
with bat and ball to a well rounded victory. With a well deserved 35
points Yateley are looking in great shape for next Saturdays away match
with Shinfield. |

14 May - Mixed XI v Ashford 1st XI |
|
|
Dave Goddard
reports With a shortage of availability this
week Dave Goddard skippered a rather mixed side comprising of only a
couple of 1st team players, 4 x 2nds, 4 x Saturday 3rds and young Tom
Wood. Against Ashford 1st XI the faint hearted may have feared an absolute
slaughter but this was not the case at all!
Ashford won the toss and elected to bat first but
Mark Joubert and Alex West were an outstanding opening bowling pair and
Ashford could only manage 17 runs off the first 10 overs. Taking a couple
of wickets during the next ten overs ( Ashford 62 for 2 off 20) might have
been a large factor in our defeat as their 3 ,4 and 5 were pretty strong
batsmen including their No 5 Surrey Championship batsmen Sebastian and M
Usman. Big hitting Sebastian started very quickly indeed and young Tom
Wood got the brunt if his early big hitting, Tom however refused to drop
his head and with a superb ball sent Sebastian packing on only 25. A very
straight forward catch was dropped at the early stage of their No. 3's
innings and he went on to score a 73 and suddenly Ashford had moved to 237
for 8 at the end of their 40 overs (Mark Joubert 0 for 21 off 8, Alex West
1 for 12 off 8, T Wood 1 for 24 off 5, Izzy Akhtar 1 for 50 off 6, P
Mackie 0 for 36 off 4, Danny Bone 0 for 16 off 1, Chris Tull 2 for 44 of 5
and Dave Goddard 3 for 19 off 3).
In reply S Froud 19, Danny Bone an excellent 49,
Mark Joubert 25 and Perry Lewington were the main contributors with the
bat. Froud and Bone got us off to a good start and we were well up with
the required rate until the opening partnership was broken . Chris Tull.
Tom Wood and Asim Kayani tried hard but couldn't seem to get the ball away
for the much needed runs and so when the gallant Mark Joubert went in at 6
, despite a fighting quick 25, too much pressure was on the tail enders
and 14 runs per over was never on!. Eventually we were all out for 181 in
the 38th over BUT a respectable outcome for the team nonetheless!

13 May - 2nd XI v Haste Hill 1st XI |
|
|
Dave Goddard
reports Haste Hill wanted to play a time game
and, as we prefer a result orientated game, when we won the toss we put
them into bat. Excellent opening bowling from new member Zaim Azhar (2 for
28 off 9) and Phil Mackie (1 for 30 8) followed by very good spells from
Ben Swingler-Brown (2 for 7 off 5), Henry Wildey (3 for 17 off 5) and Dave
Goddard (2 for 26 off 6) resulted in Haste Hill being bowled out for 115.
With opener George Lunt scoring 38, 19 from Phil Mackie and a fine and
solid 33N/O from James Chandler Yateley quickly cantered to victory by 4
wickets in under 33 overs. |

May - 1st XI v Peppard |
|
|
Jon Ablett
reports Yateley 159-9 (Ben Viner 34, Chris
Tull 37) Peppard 160-7 (Stuart Lipo 2-59, S Davies
3-36) After a rain delayed start the first league
game of the season got underway after Yateley had lost the toss and been
put into bat. After a solid start we lost 3 quick wickets and were 35-3. A
mature and accomplished partnership between Ben Viner (34) and Chris Tull
(37) laid a solid foundation for a reasonable total on a bowler friendly
pitch. Useful contributions from Rob Barrett(23) and John Muir(13) meant
we finished on 159-9 off 38 overs. We had to make early inroads into the
Peppard top order and Stuart Lipo came up with 2 early wickets. After a
solid partnership from the Vines brothers Steve Davies bowled a captains
spell (3-36) and Dave Reagan got a wicket with an early contender for ball
of the season. Ultimately, some missed catches and some inconsistent
bowling helped a good lower order partnership that saw Peppard home. It
was a solid start by the team and hopefully we can build on that with a
victory in our first home league game of the season next week!!!

May - The Good, Bad and the Ugly ! |
|
| Sat 6
May - 2nd XI v Checkendon |
|
|
Dave Goddard
reports With a delayed start due to rain and
a damp wicket, winning the toss and batting second looked critical. So
when we lost the toss and were put in to bat, losing two very quick
wickets and being 18 for 2 things didn't really look too good especially
as two of our main batsman had to pull out of the game. Danny Mortimer
rescued the situation slightly with a good looking 32 but Yateley were all
out for just 136 and the wicket wasn't playing that badly after all!.
Withe the usual Yateley 2nds team spirit and an
excellent opening bowling spell by newcomer Jason Housley and Mannu Rawat
(11 overs 27 for 2 & 15 overs 26 for 2 respectively) Yateley were
really still in with a chance. Youngsters Henry Wildey and Tim Moore kept
up the good work ( 6 overs 12 for 1 and 6 overs 10 for 0 respectively) and
suddenly with great fielding and two run outs Checkenden were forced to
bat out for the draw. With Jason injured we just lacked his pace to get
out the last couple of "blockers" from Checkenden. A brilliant catch by
George Lunt off the bowling of Goddard raised hopes but Checkendon held
out with 2 wickets to spare.
A well earned winning draw for Yateley. 22
points from this first league game of the season was a good effort.

29 April - 1st XI v Theale & Tilehurst |
|
|
Steve Davies
reports Preparation for the forthcoming
league was not looking good prior to the last friendly match against
Theale & Tilehurst this Saturday was not looking good with the late
pullout of a player and the non arrival of a second. Skipper Stephen
Davies decided to take to the field with 9 players with a mammoth task
ahead of restricting the batting side with minimum bowling availability
and 2 players down. Stuart Lipo and Stephen Davies started off the bowling
with great accuracy. Theale & Tilehurst struggled to take advantage of
Yateleys 7 fielders and could not find the gaps in the field. T&T were
held to 58 for 0 from 15 overs before skipper Stephen took 2 wickets in
the 16th over. With bowlers being at a minimum Lipo (12overs 1 maiden 39
runs) made way for Chris Tull (6overs 36 runs) both supporting the skipper
who looked back to full fitness with a marathon spell (15 overs 6 maidens
32 runs 3 wickets). Danny "Collingwood" Bone (4overs 32 runs) and Saj
Shafi (5 overs 38 runs) provided some excellent restricting bowling with
Ben Viner (3 overs 21 runs for 2 wickets) finishing off the Yateley
bowling with catches from John Muir and Stuart Lipo. T&T finished on
224 for 5 from 45 overs, everyone in the field supported the bowlers well
with tight fielding throughout the 45 overs.
Yateley looked on the ropes with the early
lose of Saj Shafi in the second over. Ben Viner showed staying power with
an excellent innings of 42 before being caught with a second wicket
partnership of 152. Stuart Lipo continued to show great form with the bat
ahead of the league season. John Muir again showed grit with a fine mature
innings of 34 before being caught. Barry Ward (4 not out) ensured the
Yateley win with supreme performance by Stuart Lipo (120 not out) to steer
Yateley to victory with the lose of only 2 wickets and 2 overs to spare.
The 1st XI travel to Peppard in the first
league game of the season this Saturday.

29 April - 2nd XI v Valley End |
|
|
Dave Goddard
reports A late replacement fixture with
Valley Ends 2nd 11 saw a mixed 2nd/3rd 11 Yateley team involved in a
tense, exciting and nail biting thriller. Yateley loss the toss and were
asked to bat first and this gave the likely opening pair for the 2nds a
chance to come together for the first time just before the league kicks
off next week. Scott Gore and George Lunt looked the ticket as they
progressed to a steady 50 partnership. It wasn't long, as the pair decided
to push it along a bit more, that they reached a magnificent 100 opening
partnership. On a115 Scott Gore was caught on 48 and George Lunt went on
to an impressive 75 before getting out to a very good catch. Asim Kayani
contributed 39, Danny Mortimer 12 and Lee Latif 15 before the 45 overs
were up and Yateley had reached 230 for 9. Valley
End looked in control of the reply right from the start and again an
opening pair that looked strong and confident. On around 60 there was
confusion and Yateley obtained there first wicket compliments of a run
out. With a superb 113 by their number 2 Tait They were looking like the
losing side but with excellent bowling by young Tim Moore and Ben Swingler
Brown aided by Dave Goddard and Scott Gores accurate bowling Yateley crept
back into a situation where they at least had a chance. But for a couple
of fairly easy catches dropped off Dave Goddard's bowling Yateley could
have definitely pulled this one out of the bag. However Valley End needed
11 of the last two overs with three wickets in hand but with well executed
bowling by Goddard and Gore ( especially Gore's last over) Valley End
could only achieve equalling our score. The result a draw. A special
mention about the bowling should go to Tim Moore and Ben Swingler - Brown
because they not only bowled superbly but did so under extreme pressure. A
great game was had by all. Bowling Figures: T Moore 9 overs 3 for 35, B
Swingler Brown 9 overs 0 for 44, S Gore 9 overs 0 for 38 , D Goddard 9
overs 3 for 33 and I Akthar 9 overs 0 for 52. |

22 April - 1st XI v Sunbury |
|
|
Steve Davies
reports Yateley got off to a winning start
over the weekend over Sunbury. Winning the toss Yateley put Sunbury into
bat on a glorious hot April day.
Stuart Lipo (0 - 31 from 11 overs) and Robbie Barrett
started the bowling with great accuracy. Robbie returning from a year out
gained 2 quick wickets (2-23 from 9 overs) with Chris Tull taking a
brilliant catch to provide the second wicket. Sunbury batsmen proved it
hard for the Yateley bowlers to get further wickets for the 20 overs
moving to 111 for 2. Stephen Davies (0-32 from 8 overs), Chris Tull (0-33
from 7 overs) and Mark Joubert (0-35 from 6 overs) blew out the cobwebs in
preparation for the league season. New player Baz Heder provided an
excellent selection debate with a fantastic debut (3-21 from 5 overs).
Overall the fielding from Yateley was good, the odd dropped catch. Catches
from Jon Ablett (2) and Stephen Davies assisted the bowlers with Sunbury
declaring on 184 for 6.
Saj Shafi and John Muir opened the batting with a
great opening partnership of 49 before Saj (31) was adjudged LBW. Stuart
Lipo (20) worked the ball well moving the second partnership to 94 before
being bowled. John Muir was next to go with a fine performance of 37
before being caught from the bowling of Sunbury stalwart B Kincaid (5-69
from 10 overs). Jon Ablett provided a quick 19 runs until he was caught at
deep mid off. Chris Tull (6) and Baz Heder (6) lasted only a few overs
whilst youngster Danny Bone provided a Collingwood style innings (20 not
out). Robbie Barrett could not emulate his bowling performance and was
caught going for a big hit at deep mid on, suspicion fell to the fact that
he had a new bat! Skipper Stephen Davies with quick blitz (15) fell foul
to an LBW from Kincaid "All these years of playing cricket and it's always
been Kincaid that gets me out at Sunbury". With the total moving closer to
the Sunbury target but wickets becoming scarce, Mark Joubert took to the
crease and the crowd awaiting the quick emergence and replacement of the
number 11 Chris Jeffs. However the crowd was proven wrong, Mark Joubert
steered Yateley to the win with 2 overs to spare finishing on 18 not out
ably assisted by Bone. |

22 April - 2nd XI v Spencer |
|
|
Dave Goddard
reports With Sunbury cancelling, a CCC game
was arranged with unknown "Spencer" team for a mixed 2nd/3rd II Yateley
side. Winning the toss we put Spencer into bat expecting a fairly strong
side but with excellent first spell bowling from Henry
Wildey, Andy Davies, Mannu Rawat and Martin Owton we soon had them 66 for
6. Wanting to give our batsmen a chance of some practice
also, Dave Goddard decided to give "other team memebers" a
chance to show what they might do with the ball in order to make a game of
it. Sure enough we probably gave them about 50 runs more than we should
have and we fell short of their total of 175 all out by 20 runs. However
in this warm up practice match everyone got an enjoyable game of
cricket and the performances worth mentioning are: Bowling - Henry Wildey
9 overs 2 for 28, Andy Davies 6 overs 3 for 16, Dave Goddard 5.3 overs 3
for 12 and Mannu Rawat 7 overs 1 for 12 and Batting - Mannu Rawat 34,
Barry Ward 23 and Stuart Lawrence 27. |
