| 28 Dec 2001 - The 150 Club is dead, long live the 200 Club |
| The final monthly draw of the 150 Club was made at the annual Christmas get-together at the Clubhouse lunchtime
today. The winners can be found in the 150 Club pages. From January the Club is expanded to 200, which means more
prizes and more profits for the Cricket Club. Daf has been busily recruiting additonal members. There are just a
few numbers left so if you don't want to miss out please contact her. The cost - just 50p per month.
|
| 28 Dec 2001 - Sunday 2nd XI Captain appointed |
| If you recall this year's AGM the Sunday 2nd XI position remained vacant. The Cricket Committee is pleased to
confirm that Stuart Lawrence has taken the job and I am sure we all wish him well. Stuart's priorities will be
to give the older colts an opportunity to play in senior cricket, to ensure that everyone who wants a game gets one,
and to WIN the Sunday League 2nd XI Division, of course.
|
| 16 Dec 2001 - The Hockey Club give the Cricket Club some jolly stick! |
It wasn't fair. Cricketers are used to playing with a straight bat when the sun is shining not
with a curved one on a cold Sunday morning in December. So
it wasn't surprising that we were beaten by the Hockey Club at hockey. A scoreline of 6-2 was flattering, apparently
because the Cricket Club should have scored another 4 goals. I suppose the referee was to blame.
Anyway, well done our team for beating the opposition in the bar afterwards:
Kevin Denston, Brian Denston, Nick Eve, Ben Eva, Steve Coxhead, Tom Lawrence,
Rhys Hoy, Andy Stimpson, Chris Maskell, Simon Mant, Stuart Lipo.

| 2 Dec 2001 - Berkshire Over 50s Tour of Barbados |
In November, three of our old timers (George Wakely, Colin Ive, John Branson) joined Berkshire in an Over 50s
cricket tournament in Barbados.

|
| 2 Dec 2001 - Hockey Club Challenge |
| In June we played the Hockey Club at cricket and thrashed them! (see Senior Cricket Match Reports for the details).
They have now challenged us to a game of hockey (on Sunday 16 December) in an attempt to get their own back.
We need to put out a strong team, so if you would like to be considered for selection contact Kevin Denston on 01252 878730.
|
| 2 Dec 2001 - Bricklayers required to help with the scorebox |
| It would cost between £15,000 and £20,000 to build the scorebox we would ideally like, including much-needed storage
facilities. Clearly, we cannot afford to spend this amount, even with the help of the Derrick Eastwood Fund.
Therefore, we will need to do most of the work ourselves. If you have bricklaying skills and can
offer your services free of charge please contact John Parker (01252 874339).
|
| 2 Dec 2001 - Colin Justice needs HELP |
| At the AGM Colin reiterated his desperate need for more help in running the Colts. The full details of
his plight can be found in the Colts News item of 10 Sept 2001. Please go to the "Colts Cricket"
pages for all the details.
|
| 2 Dec 2001 - AGM Highlights |
A longer than usual meeting on Thurs 29 November produced some interesting debate on a wide range of topics, which will be fully
covered in the official minutes. The highlights:
1. A few changes to the elected officers. The full list can be found in Committee/Contacts page.
2. Go to the the Senior Cricket/Selection Committee page for the three new additions to the 'team'.
3. No change to the seniors subs and match fees. Colts subs are now £15 to make them consisitent
with Students, and Juniors get a discount for playing both days. The full list of fees
can be found in the Subs & Match Fees page.
4. The 150 Club will be expanded to 200 members from 1 January 2002. Contact Daf Eastwood
if you would like to join for a mere £6 per year.
5. The indoor nets were poorly attended last year. Let us know your views on when you
would like these to start and finish this winter.

| 17 Nov 2001 - Annual Dinner & Dance |
|
Club Chairman, John Parker, organised and hosted the event as
usual, which proved to be a great success with 99 people attending.
Richard Mortimer provided the music, which was enjoyed by all as the
photographs clearly
show!! President Max Kaye presented the playing awards, which were
announced by the Chairman of Cricket, Keith Sawyer - the full list of winners
is given below. John presented the Clubman award to the Howells Family for
a second time, in recognition of all the hard work they do for the
club.
In Len's absence Liz Denston drew the raffle. Daf Eastwood held the Christmas 150
Club grand draw - the winning numbers can be found in the 150 Club pages.

be 3 or 4 pick-ups in and around Yateley between 6.30 and 7.00 and appropriate drop-offs on the return. The

|
| 24 Oct 2001 - 2nd XI to Survive the "Drop"? |
| Our inside man (Stuart Hill) has leaked information from Tuesday night's Berkshire
League Executive Committee meeting that Yateley 2nd XI will not be relegated from Division 3 next
year. Stuart warns that this still needs to be ratified (rubber stamped) by the main committee next week.
Nevertheless, it seems safe enough for Pete Platt to buy his customary "skipper's pint" - perhaps,
on this occasion: "skipper's PINTS".
|
| 17 Oct 2001 - Sunday League Dinner |
Max Kaye, John Parker, Colin Justice and Chris Jacobs attended the Sunday League
dinner held at Camberley Cricket Club on Wednesday 17 Oct. Wokingham picked up the Division 1 champions
cup from Hampshire skipper Robin Smith. In his opening remarks, Robin congratulated all the winners and
encouraged those clubs with no trophies to 'pull their fingers out' next season.
The entertainment was provided by top TV comedian Dave Lee. Thankfully, partners were not present!

| 6 Oct 2001 - Yateley Scoop 8 Awards at the Berkshire League Dinner |
| What an evening last night! We picked up 2 team and 6 player awards at the Berkshire League Dinner
at the Calthorpe Hotel in Reading. Below is Club skipper Simon Mant receiving the Berkshire Knock-Out
Cup from ex-England wicketkeeper Bob Taylor. John Parker enjoys the champagne!
|
|
|
|
| Simon and our 1stXI boys also collected their medals for being runners-up in Division 1.
No less than 6 players picked up Foster Wheeler monthly awards for best performances,
each receiving a £20 gift voucher.
|
| 1 October 2001 - Cricket Dinners |
| It's too late to order tickets for the
Berkshire League Dinner - 12 Yateley members (including
wives) are going this Friday (5 Oct) to pick up the season's
trophies. Photographs will appear here on Saturday. The Sunday
League Dinner is on Wednesday 17 October if anyone wants to go.
We need to send at least 6 members (not normally couples) to
represent the Club at this cricket dinner (no dancing). Guest
speakers will entertain us and the annual awards will be presented. Colin
Justice and Chris Jacobs have confirmed - if you are interested send
us an email or contact Keith Sawyer on 01256 819055. The Yateley
Annual Dinner Dance, which you are all
expected to attend, is on Sat 17
November. This will be a great evening and to make sure of getting tickets contact John Parker
now on 01252 874339 to avoid disappointment.

| 25 September 2001 - End of Season work on the Square |
| To avoid any difficulties with the weather,
the square was put to bed early this year, thanks to a few
dedicated individuals who put in a lot of effort over the weekend. For the rest of the
season home matches are being played at Yateley Green. We owe these guys a big THANK
YOU, and Julia Howells who cooked lunch.
|
 |
| On Friday John Parker, Ted and Stuart
Hill spent the whole day mowing, scarifying and aerating the complete square. This
involved the hire of a scarifier and an aerator which drilled holes 3/4" diameter spaced at 2 1/4". On the Saturday John,
Ted, Bert King, Ken Boxall, Selwyn Grimsley, Stuart Lawrence, and Gethyn, John, Elgin
and Dave Howells fertilized, overseeded and top-dressed the square. There was a total of 120 x 25Kg
bags of K-loam spread and worked into the playing area. There was also work done to level and seed areas
around the square.
|
| 10 September 2001 - Derrick Eastwood Commemorative Bench |
At the Club Day on 9 Sept Daf and her family completed the installation of the bench to commemorate Derrick's contribution to Yateley
Cricket Club. Thanks to all who donated and Derrick's family for their fund-raising efforts. Of course, his
fund is still open with the aim now of raising the money for a scorebox. The Club Day added another £407
to the fund.
|
| 9 September 2001 - Club Day |
| The weather was good, if a little cold. The Under 30's team tied with the Over 30's
at 118 each in a 20 over match.
The Over 30's runs came from Ian Taylor (22), Brian Denston (25no), Rob Barrett (16). The
Under 30's scorer's were James Mace (10), Saj (15), Pete Denston (25no), Simon Mant (30).
|
The bowling speeds of Stuart Lipo, Rob Barrett and Peter Denston were all timed 71 mph.
And Saj beat Derek Lott in the final of the pool competition.

| 18 August 2001 - Volunteers Wanted! |
We will be putting
the cricket square to bed earlier this year to
avoid any problems with the weather. This will be done by the professionals
but we need some willing manual labourers to help during the weekend
of 21, 22 and 23 September. If you
can spare some time on the Fri, Sat or Sun please contact either
John Parker (01252 874339) or Stuart Hill (01252 879465).

longer to find out.
|
| 16 July 2001 - Aylward Plate Final - YATELEY CHAMPIONS! |
| Yateley beat Waverley by 29 runs in a low scoring Aylward Plate Final tonight to make it a
record 7 wins in the competition. A sparkling 29 runs from Matt Drewell and 14 from David Jones were
overshadowed by the best bowling and fielding
performance ever seen in a final. Rob Barrett with 2-10 in 4 overs was the pick of the bowlers, well supported by
Simon Mant (3-18), David Jones (1-14) and Simon Lipo. |
With Bob on holiday the Webmaster himself was there with his camera -
