Another great evening of awards for our young (and lady) cricketers. What Mr Parker is doing getting an award I don't know. Okay, perhaps he did do a little work preparing wickets (every night of the week throughout the summer). |
|
It was a great evening on Friday when the annual senior awards were presented at a dinner at the Clubhouse. Sharon Mortimer laid on another excellent meal and hubby Richard provided the entertainment. They also won the Clubman of the Year award for their efforts over the last year, particularly for their contribution to the work involved in obtaining Clubmark accreditation. Skipper Steve Davies picked up the Berkshire League Premier Division trophy - a first for the Club. All the other awards are listed below.

At the England 1-day international against India at the Rose Bowl on Tuesday Colin Justice was presented with an award by ex-West Indian opening bowler Michael Holding for an outstanding contribution to coaching at grass roots level. As Hampshire CCC U13's coach and Yateley Colts Chairman Colin has developed young talent for both Hampshire CCC (eg Chris Benham) and England Colts (eg Michael Bates). The number of Yateley Colts representing the District, the County and England is higher than any other club in the area. Colin is a tremendous asset to the Club and we warmly congratulate him on his achievement. Watch out for Sky Sports press releases in the local and national press. |

Our Ladies Darts team ran their annual 24-hour darts marathon in aid of Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice on Thursday/Friday 16/17 August at the Clubhouse. The money hasn't been counted yet but they expect to raise between £2,000 and £3,000 for the charity. It was a great event, which carried on beyond the 24 hours and well into Friday evening with entertainment from Richard's Disco show. Click here to see the photos! Well done Ladies!! |

Our Ladies Darts Team came unstuck against the men on Saturday losing their challenge by the narrowest of margins (7-6). They were slightly handicapped though, by the forced inclusion of 3 of the Committee member's wives (Shirley, Sharon, Jill). Nevertheless, the best team won! A raffle was held in support of the Ladies Darts Marathon on Thurs/Fri 16/17 August at the Clubhouse, which is in aid of the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice. Click here to see the photos! Hi All, Following the change in weather over the past week, this can mean only one thing - The Cricket season is well and truly here! Last year the Vodafone Cricket team raised an epic total of £5047.00 for Cancer Research by playing a Dawn to Dusk match. The format for play is commence at 6.30 in the morning and continue to play through to 9.30pm just as the light fades. This years chosen charity is the Chiltern Air Ambulance and we are looking to raise even more money than last year. Please go to http://www.justgiving.com/vodafonecricket for more information and your opportunity to donate to such a worthy cause. We may also have the opportunity for the Air Ambulance to land at the venue (hopefully not due to injury). The event takes part on the 21st June at one of the local clubs. We also require any donations of prizes for the raffle, so if you have access to any prizes please let me know. Kind Regards |

We will be holding the 1st social event of the season down the club house on Bank Holiday Monday. There will be a BBQ (bring own food - cook is to be decided), bar open all day, pool, poker and other games available, and generally it would be really good to get as many down before the season kicks off in earnest. All are welcome. |

As you know our Saturday teams have performed very well over the past few years based on good availability. However these days many players only play one game at the weekend and this has had a difficult impact on Sundays. Although we have usually fielded two teams, our strength has been variable and therefore our performances have been rather “up and down” and when a weak side comes up against Finchamstead for example, it can be no fun for anyone. For this reason and to provide a development path for older Colts, the club has decided to withdraw both its first and second teams from the Sunday league. The firsts will play competitive friendlies against sides of similar capability to ours. The seconds will do the same but with an emphasis on helping the colts to develop their games as they start the move from the juniors to the senior section. The Cricket Committee believes that this will work well but it depends on us continuing to achieve good availability on Sundays. We would ask all seniors to make themselves available as often as possible and would ask “Saturday only” players to turn out now and again especially if they have to miss a Saturday (or dare we say it ‘need the practice’). The cricket will be just as competitive but we believe that playing sides of similar standards will result in much more enjoyable games. Organisation – John Muir has agreed to coordinate this transition as Sunday Cricket Manager. There will be no permanent first eleven skipper but a number of players will take it in turns to do the honours. Please liaise with John on your availability on 07834 271705 or through any of the Selection Committee if you have already given it to your skipper on the previous weekend. Best Wishes for enjoyable Sunday cricket. Colin Justice and Chris Jacobs – Joint Cricket Committee Chairmen |

The committee are very happy to advise everyone that the club achieved its Clubmark accreditation at a meeting today with the Hampshire Cricket Development Officer. This has been a major exercise undertaken by a very committed group of members. Accreditation recognises that the club has met or exceeded stringent standards with respect to:
In addition the accreditation recognises that we have in place a highly professional 'Club Development Plan'. This will ensure the continued development of the club in terms of junior and senior playing standards, facilities improvements, links with the local community, etc. The committee would like to thank all those who contributed, in however small a way, to gaining this important recognition for the club. We would also like to particularly like to put on record the enormous contribution of Richard Mortimer, our Treasurer, for acting as the project manager and leading the team that achieved this important award. |

There is a coaching course for Volunteers being run on Sunday 25th March in the Sports Hall at RAF Odiham from 10-00am to 2-00pm. A number of players and parents went on the same course last winter and thoroughly enjoyed it. No great knowledge of cricket is required but it will enable you to feel confident to lend a hand on Friday nights in support of a qualified coach and have a lot of fun doing it. If you would like to have a go please call Colin Justice (01276 691829) or e-mail him on colinjustice@yahoo.co.uk |

This coming Sunday March 4th, there will be a coaching workshop as well as the normal net practice. Colin Justice will lead the session with Paul Sandford and Kevin Wood. They have agreed to run the whole session and those of you who attended the sessions outdoors at the beginning of last season will know how beneficial and fun they can be. The session will include:
The session has been extended by half an hour and will run from 5-30pm to 7-30pm. We would urge as many people to make the effort to come as possible. (Who knows it might encourage Colin Paul and Kevin to do it again!!) Venue and Directions: Fernhill School, Neville Duke Road, Hawley Nr Camberley GU14 9BY You need to be on the B3272 – Hawley Lane. If you know the Hungry Horse pub (used to be the New Inn) - from there head south and within 200yds there is a mini roundabout where you turn right into Chapel Lane. Then take first right into Derry Road and then right again into Neville Duke Road. The School entrance is on the right and if you the keep to the right, the Sports Hall is signposted and ahead of you on the left. |

The indoor colts teams are coming towards the climax of the season with the best record we have ever had at this stage. The five teams have played 23 games between them and Won 21; Tied 1; Lost 1. Even so we are not certain of any titles as some of our main rivals are also unbeaten and we have them still to play. We will keep you informed over the coming weeks but you can also see the league tables on www.nhycl.play-cricket.com and click on 'tables'. Best of luck to all the teams and their highly stressed coaches and supporters Colin |
