GIRLS CRICKET - Match Reports 2007

U13 girls v Holybourne - 31 July 2007

Emma Cowdrill reports
Last match of the season for the girls. We were fielding 3 under 8's so the match was bound to be lop-sided, but that was not going to deter us and under the captaincy of Alice Micklethwaite we went out to enjoy the match in an idyllic setting. Vice-captain Emma Roper (sadly playing in her last U13 match) opened the bowling with her usual accuracy, claiming the first wicket of the match. There were also excellent bowling spells from Heather Southgate & Providence Cowdrill who both took wickets and Emma Croshaw who bowled 2 overs for just 2 runs. Not easy for relatively inexperienced players under such intense pressure from the Holybourne supporters. I am also pleased to report that all 9 of the Yateley girls bowled, with a first wicket ever for Kerry. All the girls put on a wonderful display of fielding, from 'long-barrier' P, to 'diving' Flo, 'strong-arm' Georghia & Heather and 'stop the ball' Kerry & Stephanie.

We didn't quite manage to hit the runs when we went out to bat, although we only lost 2 wickets. A good solid defensive performance though!

Man of the match - Heather Southgate
Bowling award - P Cowdrill & Emma Croshaw
Effort award - Kerry
Fielding award - Flo Phillips

GIRLS CRICKET - Match Reports

U11's Basingstoke Tournament - 27 July

Emma Cowdrill reports
On 27th of July we went to Basingstoke and played a tournament. We played three games and lost all but we all played BRILL!!!

Our first game was against Odiham. In that match P defended the wicket and did some great throwing and Charlotte stopped a boundary. It was only her 2nd match. Flo’s batting was really good and did some superb calling.

After that we had an hour wait till our next game. In the next game we were against Trojans. Georghia did some outstanding bowling. Georghia was also our captain. (and she was the best ever.) Kerry did wonderful fielding and really protected her wicket. It was only about her 3rd match.

Our last and final match was against the most scary team ever on planet earth Cove . Stephanie fielded very well in this match and stopped the ball on several occasions. Emma bowled excellently in this match as well as all the others. Jake was an enthusiastic wicker keeper and succeeded in stumping someone out.

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and learnt a lot in this tournament. The captain was very proud of her team and would like to say well done to everyone.
Georghia Binstead (captain )

U15's v Aldershot - 26 June

Match report by Emma Vincent
This was our first match of the season, after 3 cancelled matches we were glad for this one not to be rained off.

We lost the toss and Aldershot put us into bat first. Leonora Hanson and Georgina Covers were very nervous at the prospect of opening, but they got us off to a good start. The first wicket fell, this brought Chloe Micklethwaite to the crease. As per usual Chloe had a magnificent innings and in the end she had to retire. Ellen Knighton also had a great innings in her first match for Yateley. Everyone else batted well and made the total a respectable 91.

Ellen and Emma Vincent opened the bowling with the runs being kept down to a minimum we were on track. Everyone got a chance to bowl except Katie who kept brilliantly behind the stumps in her first ever match. Kayleigh Fraser had a few amazing overs bowling for the age group above what she usually plays for. There were wickets from Ellen, Emma, Chloe, Kayleigh and a brilliant run out from Georgina. I have to mention how brilliantly Yateley fielded. They did not let many extra runs past.

Everyone played well and we were unlucky to lose, but Aldershot did play incredibly.

U15 Girls V Aldershot (10/7/07)

Match report by Emma Vincent
We lost the toss and Aldershot put us into bat first. Ellen Knighton and Georgina Covers opened the batting, which is a very hard job, they both hit some good shots and played well, unluckily they got out early on. This brought Chloe Micklethwaite to the crease. As per usual Chloe had a magnificent innings and in the end she had to retire. Emma Vincent also played well for her 20 but she got out to some brilliant bowling. Emma Roper and Jess Hill were playing their first ever hard ball game and they were nervous when they went out to bat, but they both played magnificently, scoring 5 and 4 respectively.

Ellen and Emma V opened the bowling they both bowled well and kept the runs down. Ellen bowled well and was rewarded with 2 wickets. Wickets also came from Emma V, Chloe, and Leo Hanson. Everyone bowled well and there were not many wides given away. Even though Georgina and Alice Micklethwaite did not get any wickets they both bowled economically with Alice only giving away 5 runs in the 3 overs that she bowled. The fielding was also fantastic with everyone paying attention and some good stops from Jess behind the keeper and Ellen. We stopped them getting lots of runs by our fielding and we were unfortunate to lose in the last over.

Everyone played well and we were unlucky to lose, but Aldershot did play extremely well.

U15 Girls v Eversley (11/7/07)

Match report Emma ( and Chloe & Leo)
We lost the toss and Eversley put us into bat first, this seems to be the way I start every match report! Leo Hanson and Ellen Knighton went into bat first. Ellen was unlucky to get out for a duck, but Leo had a magnificent inning getting 8 runs and batting for quite a long time. Emma Vincent came into bat and got a quick 9 before being bowled out. Georgina Covers had a brilliant game, she came in 5th and got 22 runs, 3 off retiring when she got out, she played really well for these runs, well done Georgina. Unfortunately after some good wickets from Eversley and some slightly dodgy shot decisions, we were all out after 10 of our 20 overs, reaching a slightly disappointing (slightly amazing?!) total of 52.

We went into bowl and we knew we had to keep there run rate down, and we did. Emma Vincent bowled extremely well, getting a wicket maiden and overall getting 3 wickets, she also only let 9 runs go in her 4 overs. Ellen bowled well, she got a wicket and also bowled a maiden over. She also only let 10 runs through in her 4 overs bowling. Chloe Micklethwaite bowled well and was unfortunate for some of her bowling to be called wides. The last over she bowled was a maiden. Alice Micklethwaite bowled well for the age group above herself. The first over she bowled was a maiden and she only let 8 runs go in her 4 overs. Everyone bowled amazingly and we were very unfortunate to lose. In the field we were superb with some excellent fielding from Emma Roper who stopped Eversley from scoring more runs. Everyone bowled and fielded well and there was great team spirit per usual. Wickets came from Emma V (3), Ellen & Leo.

We were very unfortunate to lose as we got our runs in 10 overs and they got the score in just over 18 overs. Well played Yateley and great team spirit despite the defeat.( Thank you Emma Cowdrill for the Ice creams at the end. (I think we should get an ice cream van to come to every match!!!!! *hint, hint* )

U15 Girls v Eversley (15/7/07)

Match report by Chloe and Emma V

We lost the toss and Eversley put us into bat first, I think we are cursed to always bat first. Ellen Knighton and Leo Hanson went in to bat first. They both batted brilliantly, with Leo getting 3 runs and Ellen having a fantastic knock and getting 28 runs which was 2 off retiring, well played Ellen. Leo getting out brought Chloe Micklethwaite to the crease, Chloe had a fantastic bat and was unlucky to get out for 14. Emma Vincent, Georgina Covers and Alice Micklethwaite also batted well getting 12, 8 and 12 respectively. Katie Truslove and Emma Roper supported the run scorers well and they were both unfortunate to not score many runs themselves. Yateley got 101 runs in 18 overs which was extremely good and nearly double the amount of runs that we got last time, well batted everyone.

When we came into bowl we all knew that we could win this match, but we made it difficult for ourselves, giving away 53 in extras. Everyone bowled well with some great fielding from the whole team and per usual some amazing team spirit (Yateley are the best team in the world and we rock WOOHOO!). Chloe bowled well getting 3 wickets and she also got a terrific run out, with some great fielding. One of the wickets came from an amazing catch by Leo. Emma V also bowled well and she bowled 2 people out. Chloe and Emma V also bowled no wides. Georgina had a good over when she bowled and did not let many runs through. Everyone fielded well especially the Micklethwaite sisters who fielded amazingly and both got a run out. They must have been practicing in the garden! (I think they have been spending all their free time practicing in the back garden. By the way Yateley rock and Alice was nearly back to her hyper self after those delicious brownies (thank you Emma C) also thank you Colin for umpiring).

Well played Yateley and it was a good performance that helped us win by 9 runs, after Emma V took a wicket in the 15th over causing all the Eversley girls to be out, giving us our first win of the season after several extremely close games after losing previously by only a few runs. Everyone participated and it was a great performance, we are going to thrash them again next time! A special thank you must go out to Colin for umpiring for us and coming to watch us play. Thank you to Emma C as well as we don’t thank her enough for giving up so much free time for us and keeping our spirits up with her great half time ‘chats’. Thanks.

U15 Girlies v Yateley Yorkers 6 July

Match report by Chloe Micklethwaite (after Alice got bored!!)
Actually!! I got confused with everything!!!

Girlies – 60
Yorkers – 47

The Yorkers “bravely” opened the batting against the fearsome bowling of the U15s. The Yorkers did well on an extremely well on a wet pitch scoring 47 runs overall including extras. Wendy and Sandra batted extremely well in such difficult conditions both gaining 7 runs. Jane V also batted well and achieved 6 runs and Sue did well adding another two to the Yorkers team total. They did very well, especially against the fast bowling of the U15s. Kayleigh bowled tidily as did Heather, who was rewarded with a wicket. Leo also did well for the U15s as she only let 7 runs go in her 2 overs and also took a wicket. Ellen and Chloe bowled tidy spells all taking a wicket each. Emma V bowled well, bowling a maiden and the ladies only managed 6 runs off her 3 overs of accurate bowling. Alice also bowled very well, bowling a wicket maiden as well as in her other over only giving away 2 runs in her other over. The fielding by everyone was good, stopping several fours and there was better backing up and more accurate throwing into the stumps than in previous games against the Yorkers.

After tea, the U15s went into bat and had to face some much improved bowling from the ladies. Sandra bowled extremely well, only 5 off 2 overs. Laura also bowled neatly. A wicket was taken by Wendy who bowled accurately throughout the match. Emma C our loving coach, took a good catch after a great bowling spell (however, in my opinion she ‘should’ have bowled much less well and dropped the catch. Although, if my memory serves me correctly I believe she did drop a catch…maybe I should be quiet or we could end up running laps at the next training session)

The U15s struggled a little on the bounce of the ball as it wasn’t bouncing as high as we were used to. However, a lot of us managed to contribute to the teams score. Ellen batted well hitting 7 runs, before being unlucky to get out after some good running. Emma V achieved 4 runs, as did Leo who retired after batting very well and blocking some excellent bowling from the Yorkers. Alice also retired after hitting 14 runs and so did Chloe after 16 runs. There was a lot of good fielding by the ladies, who almost got several run-outs from excellent fielding, especially from Sandra who did some brilliant stops! Well done to all who played and the ladies are catching up, as they only lost by 13 runs to the U15s! (But we’re still better...)

U13 Girls v Aldershot 17 June

Match report by Alice Micklethwaite
YCC – 198
Aldershot – 304

We batted first with Jess and Alice scoring 25 runs in their partnership. Although the score wasn’t very high; this was not a bad effort as the Aldershot team were very, very, very tall and scary, therefore much more experienced and they bowled and fielded very well. P, Emma C and Florence tried their very best in the batting against some fearsome bowling from bowlers who were several years older. Great effort! Heather also tried hard and was unfortunate not to gain many runs. Although the score wasn’t very high; this was not a bad effort as the Aldershot team was very, very, very tall and scary, therefore much more experienced and they bowled and fielded very well.

After an encouraging half time team talk, we went out with our heads held high and were inspired to our best fielding yet, with accurate throwing, brilliant catching and excellent stopping from bowling. We had great bowling from Addi who took a great wicket and Raegan hitting the stumps off her bowling in her first ever match, so she did very well after practising hard in training. Alice also bowled well, bowling a wicket maiden.

A brilliant effort despite the score; the fielding was superb. Well done girls!

Bowling award – Raegan
Man (?) of the Match – Alice

U13 Girls v Eversley A 3 June

Match report by Alice Micklethwaite
YCC – 224
Eversley – 289

We batted well as Eversley had very accurate bowling and were of a much higher experience to our team. Alice and Jess opened the batting sensibly getting 15 runs in their partnership. Kayleigh also batted very well getting 4 runs to add to our team total. After this, Addi and Charlotte batted sensibly with no outs against some tough bowling and played some good defensive shots to protect our total. A few wickets brought the total down a little, but overall, we batted very well. Well done girls!

Our fielding was very impressive. We bowled very well with Heather getting her first ever wicket in a proper match! Well done Heather! Jess also bowled well gaining a wicket and Alice also did so. Emma R, Charlotte, Addi and Emma R also bowled tidily not letting many extras past. We also had fantastic catches from Kayleigh and Alice.

We stopped many fours and overall we had superb fielding, showing we had improved greatly since the beginning of the season!

Well played girls!

Thurs 24 May 2007 - U13 Girls v Aldershot B

Emma Cowdrill reports:
Yateley won the toss and skipper Alice decided to field. Having practised lots of fielding drills in previous weeks to encourage awareness in the field, I was thrilled to see that it paid off with our most positive fielding yet. Some great stops from all the girls and much more enthusiasm kept the Aldershot total to 217. Our bowling was less encouraging, but Jess Hill managed to snatch a wicket and Georghia, Addi & Alice had economical overs.

Despite facing only 52 good balls in their 16 overs, Yateley produced some good batting particularly from Alice Micklethwaite - four 4's and a 6 - for a tight finish. Needing 16 off the last over, Alice and Jess hit 2 boundaries and ran a quick single which together with the 2 wides left us just 2 runs short.

An excellent performance from the girls (who were one player down) and against a team who were all much older.

Mon 7 May 2007 - Under 11 Girls - Cove Tournament

Emma Cowdrill reports:

A great opportunity for our U11 girls to play in the U9 section of the Cove Tournament on BH Monday. Surprisingly, given the strength of the opposition, our girls held their own and lost 2 of their matches by just 3/4 runs. Their last match in the group stages was against our U9A's, but they kept focused and lost with their heads held high. A torrential downpour meant they went into the plate semis against Eversley cold and wet. However it was another very close match against much older girls and though they were knocked out, they were unbowed and showed great team spirit. Well done girls.

Tues 1 May 2007 - U13 Girls v Cove A

Emma Cowdrill reports:
First match for our U13 girls. Put into bat we struggled with inexperience against a Cove side unchanged from last year. However, there were fours from Emma R & Addi and some strong batting from skipper Alice - 2 fours and a six. The Cove experience showed though as they demolished our score reaching our total in only 4 overs! Lots to learn and work on in training. Special mention to Emma Croshaw who played having attended her first training session just 3 days previously!
