COLTS Match Reports 2005
July 2005 - Yateley U9 Matches

Emma Cowdrill reports:
10 July v Bagshot (friendly) - Yateley 235 Bagshot 320
This was billed as an A team match with Bagshot fielding all year 4's again (in very short supply at YCC), however we lost 2 to the U11's and had Providence Cowdrill (U 6) filling in at short notice, so an uneven match from the start. Notable performances were all from B team players - a strong batting partnership of Georgina Henry & Providence and good bowling spells from Kesley Kaps, Chris Hartland, Tom Dowell, with the spin bowling of Georgina & Providence proving difficult for the Bagshot lads to play.
MoM - Georgina Henry
Bowling Award - Chris Hartland

13 July v Camberley (friendly) - Yateley 236 Camberley 323
Camberley asked us to field a B team for this match with their weak & inexperienced A team. Unfortunately this too proved to be a mismatch though Yateley were determined not to allow this to effect their morale and played with enthusiasm. Kesley Kaps bowled his best spell this season with Tom Dowell (2) and Georgina Henry (1) taking the wickets. George Masters scored the most runs (9).
MoM - Kesley Kaps

15 July v Eversley - Yateley 243 Eversley 322
A bit of a drubbing here for the team - again short of 2 players. Poor batting meant the loss of 6 wickets, 3 of which were caught. Wickets were taken by Jamie Innes and Paddy Finch with the Yateley highlight coming from superb fielding by Jacob Vincent & Isaac Cowdrill for a run out.
Fielding awards - Jacob Vincent & Isaac Cowdrill

22 July v Hartley Wintney - Yateley 226 Hartley Wintney 285 Having beaten HW rather comprehensively earlier in the season it was fair to say we were confident going into this match, despite being down by 4 players. Skipper Jamie Innes won the toss & true to Yateley form elected to field. We took 5 early wickets from their top batsmen leaving their manager mumbling furiously beside me. We then gave away 44 runs from 4 overs, which coupled with losing 10 wickets gave the disappointing score line above. Positives to take away from this match included excellent fielding from Cameron Hughes (U7) and 3 super fours from Liam Roper. Isaac Cowdrill bowled his customary 3 tight overs and Jamie Innes took 2 lovely wickets whilst his dad was otherwise occupied coaching the littlies.
Bowling Award - Jamie Innes
Batting Award - Liam Roper
Fielding award - Cameron Hughes

23 July v Shinfield (friendly) - Yateley 306 Shinfield 203
What a magnificent game by our littlest team. This really was a superb team effort against a Shinfield side that we matched in age but outclassed in every way. Georgina Henry (Captain) opted to field first and what followed was a bowling display that I doubt even the Yateley 1st XI could match. 15 wickets in total were taken by all but one of the team, with wicket maidens from Anthony McGowan & Cameron Hughes and Joseph McGowan (U7) and Providence Cowdrill (U6) taking 3 wickets each. Shalin Bhanot scored a confident 24 including 5 fours and Joseph McGowan also batted well scoring 15. Special mention to Oliver Hague & Rory Champion in their first match.
If a fault could be found in this match it came from the manager who forgot to get the team to tuck their shirt tails in! Could the score have been even higher if their tails had been tucked in? Only Colin Justice knows the answer.....
Bowling award - Providence Cowdrill
Batting Award - Shalin Bhanot
MoM - Joseph McGowan

28 July 2005 - Yateley U11's Hampshire County Cup Champions

Kevin Wood reports:
Hardly a packed Rose Bowl!, but with enthusiastic fans from both Yateley and Portsmouth & Southsea it was a great thrill for the lads (and Coach!) to be playing in front of the main Pavillion at the Rose Bowl.

A "green" wicket had been cut between the square and the Pavillion but we backed our batsman and Yateley elected to bat first. Jack Wood and Jonny Burgin raced to 25 off the first 3 overs before Jonny (11) got one that stayed low and was bowled. Jack kept up the run rate but was bowled in the 5th over for 21(14 balls) - score now 39-2. Two outstanding partnerships then followed with some excellent batting from Chris James (15, including a 6 onto the covers!), and Chris Clubb (25 ret'd), who put on 29 for the 3rd wicket. Then "Clubby" and Dougie Moffat (27 ret'd) batted superbly to put on 53 for the 4th wicket. A few lusty blows and quick running then advanced the score to 129-5 from our 20 overs.

Portsmouth started well in their innings, partly helped by some short deliveries from our opening bowlers which were duly sent to the short Pavillion boundary. At 55-1 from 9 overs the nerves started to jangle! - but our bowling then stepped up a gear : Dougie Moffat bowled two tight overs for just 5 runs to finish with figures of 4-0-14-0 : Jonny Burgin bowled the dangerous opening bat and then went on to return the outstanding figures of 4-2-6-3 which effectively put an end to Portsmouths hopes. Jack Wood chipped in with a tidy spell and a late wicket, and with 3 run outs the Portsmouth innings faded to 93-7 off 20 overs. A Yateley win by 36 runs!

The post match atmosphere was really good fun and entered into by both sides. After the Cup presentation the Yateley team retired to the bar with their Chairman who bought his annual round! - I hasten to add, "of Cokes and J20's"!

July 2005 - Yateley U11 in County Cup Final

Kevin Wood reports:
Yateley U11's secured their spot in the County Cup Final at the Rose Bowl by beating St Cross in a thrilling match. Yateley batted first and Jack Wood and Jonny Burgin gave us a solid start with an excellent stand of 56 in 11 overs. Jonny made 24 (39 balls) and Jack went on to retire on 25 (34 balls). Chris James led the way in the run chase at the end of the innings with an aggressive 24 no from 23 balls. Our later batsmen all swung the bat to look for quick runs and put the fielders under pressure with some magnificent running between the wickets. YCC finished on 118-5 from 20 overs.
Chris James and Dougie Moffat are becoming an excellent opening attack and proved it again. YCC were wary of "Macca"- the St Cross bat who opens for Hampshire and plays in a Hampshire side with three of our team.Chris and Dougie restricted St Cross to 34-0 from 8 overs turning in figures of 0-13 and 0-18 respectively.Macca then thrashed 20 from the next 2 overs including 14 off Jonny Burgin, his County Capt! Obviously serious rivalry in Hampshire U11's!! Now its "game on" - Macca retired on 26 and our team rally with some excellent fielding and much tighter bowling. We made 2 excellent run-outs, including a "Pietersen" direct hit from cover by Jack Wood, Josh Parkin bowled 2 overs for 10runs and 1 wkt, and Jack and Jonny managed to bowl the last 5 overs between them for just 21 runs - a fantastic effort.St Cross finished on 114-5 despite a frantic last over looking for those vital 5 extra runs to win the match.
This was a great team performance - well done guys. The final is at the Rose Bowl on Thurs 28th July, 6 pm start against Portsmouth and Southsea. Lotys of support would be appreciated.

 17 July 2005 - Jack Wood hits 77 no for Hampshire U10

Colin Justice writes "that Jack Wood, Hampshire under 10 Captain, made an excellent 77no to lead his side to victory over Surrey on Sunday. This is the reward for hard work, constant practice and determination. Well done Jack and good luck to the under 11 squad who play in the county semi-finals on Fridat at St Cross CC. The winners play on the Rose Bowl on 28th July"

 July 2005 - Yateley U11A

Kevin Wood reports:
Yateley U11A have maintained their unbeaten league record with two recent victories:

At home to Eversley, YCC elected to bat and against a very good Eversley attack scored a very respectable 129-7 in their 20 overs. Jack Wood top scored with 27 and there were good contributions from Jonny Burgin (10no) and Jon Dow (15no).
Our opening bowlers then produced an awesome opening spell to reduce Eversley to 22-5 after 8 overs. Chris James turned in figures of 4-0-6-2, and Dougie Moffat 4-0-12-2 : A great performance lads. Josh Parkin chipped in with two late wickets and Eversley were all out for 48 in 18 overs to give YCC a win by 81 runs.

YCC entertained Hartley Wintney on Saturday 16th July and again elected to bat. On a very fast outfield this was always going to be a high scoring game and Yateley raced to 156-4 in 20 overs.Top scorers were Jack Wood (22no), Jonny Burgin (18no) and Chris James (14no). Despite good knocks from Danny Flanders (16) and Ben Tucker (15no) Hartley never really looked like keeping up with the required run rate and scored 82-6 from their 20 overs giving YCC a win by 74 runs. Yateley used the opportunity to give all their players a bowl with Peter Hull turning in the best figures of 2-1-2-4.

 13 July 2005 - Yateley U15 v Eversley - Last League Match

Pip Squire reports:
I have to say “What a way to finish the leagues” – The team played really good cricket and if they had all played like that against Rowledge and Dogmersfield we would have been undefeated. For the record Yateley batted first and scored 105 for 8 in 20 overs (Sanjeb Sada Sanker 20 off 14 balls). Tim Moore and Henry Wildey opened the bowling with an extremely tight spell 22 runs and 3 wickets in the first 8 overs (Tim Moore 4-0-11-2, Henry Wildey 4-1-11-1). They were ably supported by Dan Bone, Ed O’Connell, Dan Clack, Sagar Sunar and Justin Cash who got the rest, bowling Eversley out for 76 in 19.1 overs. Not only was the bowling good the fielding was tight and enthusiastic. A great way to finish the season.

 13 July 2005 - Yateley U11 v Cove

Paul Finch reports:
Yateley ran into a well organised and determined Cove side with their sights set on taking Yateley's unbeaten record.
Batting first, Yateley started slowly with Miles and Jack finding it hard to get the ball away, with Cove keeping it tight, Jack played across the line and got bowled by one that beat him down the off side, just clipping his off stump.
In came Ryan who also struggled to play his attacking game and he and Adam got bogged down with the score ticking along in ones and twos, before Ryan finally connected with one that threatend the club house windows. With almost the very next ball though Ryan was also tempted to swing across the line and was beaten by a straight one!
With most a number of the usual team away, we were then down to the under 9s who did a fantastic job filling in, Liam and Isaac stuck it out and pushed the score along as fast as possible, although we had by now fallen behind with the run rate and with the last batsman struggling to make an impact we limped to a fairly modest score of 78.
Cove had set the standard with some determined fielding and some excellent bowling. Jack opened the bowling and despite some wild stuff, he intimidated a wicket early on when Isaac caught brilliantly to unsettle Cove who had started determinedly. Ryan put the Cove batting under attack and Miles followed Jack and got an excellent caught and bowled. The game was still in the balance at this stage, but when Adam produced some of his best bowling of the season taking a brilliant hatrick all wickets bowled, then the odds looked to have swung Yateley's way.
Cove however did not buckle under the pressure and kept on nicking the runs here and there. In truth our bowling did get a little ragged and it soon became evident that without another hand full of wickets, Yateley would run out of time.
In the end a combination of loss of composure, lack of experience and perhaps most of all a lack of runs to defend, saw Cove pass our total with overs to spare.
Man of the match could have gone to Miles for his top score or Adam for taking his first hatrick, but it went to Jack Cusden who kept wicket very tidily against some pretty quick bowling.
Unlucky Yateley.

 13 July 2005 - Yateley U11B v Rowledge

Paul Finch reports:
Yateley fielded a fairly inexperienced side against Rowledge, however you would never have guessed when young Jacob Vincent bowled the second over taking two wickets and narrowly missing out on his hatrick.
The team settled quickly and went about fielding and bowling professionally, giving away few extras and setting a high standard considering their experience.
Run outs by Jonathon Henry and Alex Finch put the pressure on Rowledge who were already being examined by some accurate Yateley Bowling especially from Adam Handcock and Adam Finch, who was getting some wild swing withthe ball.
Yateley restricted Rowledge to 32 all out and confidently went about reaching this tally in just under 10 overs, with the runs coming from Josh Grimmett and Alex Finch.
Special mention should go to the two under 8s Alex Finch and Adam Hancock who did not look out of place with the hard ball, whilst Jacob Vincent took man of the match with a mature bowling performance which points to a bright future.
Other performances worth a mention was that of Jack Cusden who put on the keepers cloves for the first time and did an excellent job.
Whilst this game was memorable for the performance of the youngsters, it was a real team effort played an excellent attitude.
Well done on another well won victory.

 9 July 2005 - Under 9 Matches

Emma Cowdrill reports:
8 June v Eversley (friendly)(H) - Yateley 259 Eversley 285
A friendly match in every sense of the word for our less experienced side. Eversley notched up an excellent score of 285 despite some tight bowling from Adam Handcock, Paddy Finch and Chris Hartland and a couple of superb stops by Adam & Paddy. Anthony McGowan was a confident opening bat and Adam struck a beautiful 6, with Georgina Henry and Chris Hartland stalwartly defending some tricky bowling.
Batting award - Anthony McGowan
Fielding award - Paddy Finch

12 June v Eversley (A) - Yateley 259 Eversley 262
259 is obviously a difficult number for Yateley when playing Eversley. A good all round performance from Yateley fielding first as usual this season. Superb catches by T Halson and Keeper Adam Handcock and wickets from Liam Roper, Jamie Innes & T Halson kept Eversley contained, but strong batting performances from Liam Roper & Jacob Vincent weren't quite enough and we lost by just 3 runs.
Fielding award - T Halson & Adam Handcock
Bowling award - Liam Roper
Batting award - Jacob Vincent

15 June v Holybourne (H) - Yateley 237 Holybourne 239
It can't get closer than 3 runs, can it? Unfortunately for the under 9's, yes it can. Another fine performance meant that we were in with a real chance against the league leaders, but we ended up 2 runs short of that elusive second win.
Jacob Vincent yet again gave a fine performance with the bat with four 4's from his first 5 balls. Liam Roper - 3 overs 14 runs 3 wickets - and Isaac Cowdrill - 3 overs 5 runs 1 wicket - dominated the bowling with good overs from Paddy Finch and wickets from T Halson & Adam Handcock. Special mention to Joseph McGowan (age 7) for good positive fielding and for not losing his wicket.
Batting award - Jacob Vincent 20 runs
Yateley top bowler - Liam Roper 3 overs 14 runs 3 wickets
MoM - Joseph McGowan

26 June v Rowledge (H) - Rowledge 250 Yateley 257 Rowledge were confident of a win in this match, having outclassed us in the field in the first leg. Having opted to field, Jacob Vincent opened the bowling with an impressive spell - 3 overs, 8 runs, 1 wicket - follwed by good bowling from Isaac Cowdrill - 3 overs, 3 runs 1 wicket - Liam Roper - 3 overs 24 runs 2 wickets and Adam Handcock - 2 overs, 8 runs 1 wicket. Adam also provided our highest batting score - 14 runs which, together with his best wicket keeping yet, gave him a most deserved Man of the Match.

2 July v Wield (A) 2 friendly matches: U9/8 and U8/7 teams.
Yateley 252 Wield 287
The U 9/8 team put up a good fight with boundaries from Henry Aughterson, Adam Handcock & Paddy Finch and wickets taken by Kesley & Anthony, however the district & county players in the Wield side made all the difference and we were unable to
Batting award - Paddy Finch
Bowling award - Kesley Kaps
Yateley 268 Wield 266
The U8/7 team were victorious in what was for many of them their first ever match. Geezer Finch bowled a wicket maiden and Shalin bowled 2 overs for the loss of only 2 runs. Shalin (11) and Harry Cusden (10) had the best batting figures with Yateley finishing on 268 just 2 runs ahead of Wield.
Man of the Match - Geezer Finch

3 July v Bagshot (H) Yateley 231 Bagshot 338
Another friendly match for our U9/8/7 team, this time against an all U9 Bagshot team. Good match experience for our lads & lass who were unfortunate to lose by such a big margin.
Man of the Match Harry Cusden for his 13 runs.

 10 June 2005 - Yateley U11A v Basingstoke (N Hants Div 1)

Kevin Wood reports:
Yateley came through a tough match against Basingstoke to remain unbeaten in Division 1. Yateley were put in by Basingstoke and scored 113-4 in their 20 overs. Jack Wood and Chris James made a steady start as openers against some very good B’Stoke bowling but it was an inspired quick-fire 20 no from Chris Clubb that lifted the innings. There were good contributions from Jon Dow (8), Jon Burgin (7) and Dougie Moffat (12), - with a little more aggression in our shotmaking and running between the wickets we will be looking to scores of 125+ in future games.
Basingstoke, aided by some early wayward bowling, played their shots from ball 1 in their innings and got off to a flyer. After 8 overs they were on top of the run rate with 9 wkts remaining and looked favourites to win. Dougie Moffat, on his debut, then bowled a superb spell of 4 overs 1 wkt for 8 runs to change the game. With good support from Jon Dow and Jack Wood he slowed down the B’Stoke innings and they finished on 96-5 from their 20 overs – a win by 17 runs.
This was a good test for Yateley who stood up to it despite some very good cricket from B’Stoke who played the game competitively and in very good spirit. Well done to both teams.

 12 June 2005 - Yateley U15's v Cove

Pip Squire reports:
The U15’s met at Cove’s Second XI ground, won the toss and invited Cove to bat. There followed a display of disciplined batting by the Cove opening partnership who were only split up in the twentieth over, on a very erratic wicket that left the wicket keeper battered and bruised (the ball could do anything from stay 1 inch off the floor to bouncing 4 feet into the air!). However I have to admit it was not the best display of Yateley bowling and fielding I have ever seen (we gave away 42 extras).
However, with responsible batting from Henry Wildey (19), Tom O’Connell (18), a swashbuckling 35 off some twenty balls by Tim Moore saw us home with two overs to spare (47 extras did help too).
We remain top of our league with 3 more matches to play. Well played all.

 6 June 2005 - 15/15 Cup Yateley U11A v Fleet

Paul Finch reports:
Yateley won the toss and elected to bat. Sharple's and Wells batted tidily and gave a steady foundation for our innings with Sharple's playing some nice strokes before he was bowled.
Bone and Springgay piled on the runs with an excellent exhibition of hitting and quick singles, both batsman calling well and not leaving a run to the fielders. Adam and Miles continued the good work both scoring classy fours, Miles off the back foot through mid wicket and Adam on the front foot driving the Fleet captain straight down the ground.
Peter and Josh, both fell victim to the Fleet keeper, who was hot with her stumping and with tidy fielding from the visitors, Josh bit off more than he could chew when he tried to force two runs, where there was only really one.
Joe batted determinedly before he was run out when we were trying to force the total, whilst Freddy, still new to the game, was unlucky when he was caught off a thick edge which, was taken at point.
The surprise package, was Henry, who put in a focused innings, not giving an inch and then when the ball was there for hitting, he did, punishing one of the Fleet front line bowlers with three successive fours on the leg side.
At the interval, the lads must have had two many E numbers, because the discipline they showed with the batting in particular the calling and running evaporated. fortunately, this only appeared to affect our fielding and ability to concentrate on what the captain required of them. This was a shame, because it spoilt some excellent bowling, with everyone putting in two overs each. Of particular note was the bowling of Grimmett and Wells who demonstrated that line and length is what it is all about, both taking wickets. Sharple's and Henry also bowed economically, whilst wickets fell to Goold who is growing in confidence since his debut against HWCC.
Man of the match, went to Henry for his all round performance

 12 June 2005 - Yateley U11B v Fleet

Kevin Wood reports:
Yateley convincingly won this 1st Round fixture by 100 runs. YCC were put in by Fleet and lost their openers within the first 3 overs. The middle order, led by Jon Dow (31 no) and Chris Clubb (20 no), then batted extremely well to amass a big score.Jon was hitting the ball solidly "in the V", and Clubby was his usual buzzy self between the wickets. Towards the end of the innings Ryan Bone ( 12 no) hit a glorious 4 over the bowlers head and Jack Springgay produced his best batting of the season for a very well played 20 no. YCC finished on 159-5 from their 15 x 8 ball overs.
Fleet were soon in trouble in their innings and were 9-3 after 4 overs.YCC's skipper, Chris James, then took the opportunity to give all his team a bowl. Wickets fell steadily and were shared around between the bowlers.Fleet were eventually bowled out for 59 in 14 overs. One or two bowlers bowled some excellent spin instead of their usual "seam up" and it will be interesting to see how this develops during the season.
Well done lads - next round is the Qtr Final v Aldershot on 16th June at Yateley.

Yateley U13's v Rowledge

John Muir reports:
During half term we visited Rowledge for a 40 over game which was the first long version game for a number of the boys.
Unfortunately we didn't fair too well and lost quick wickets. We scraped together 138 with the help of a over 50 extras. Anthony Muir, Nick Ovens and latterly Danny Bailey all made useful contributions as the tail wagged.
When we bowled Ben Swingler-Brown and Danny Bailey bowled useful spells but we did not take wickets. Rowledge were on top but a useful 1 for 12 off 6 overs from the leg spin from James Muir brought Yateley into the game. Oliver Hickman kept his head for Rowledge scoring 55 not out to see them home with 7 wickets to spare.
This was good experience and will try to arrange a return in the summer holidays.

 June 2005 - 15/15 Cup Yateley U13's v Alton

John Muir reports:
Yateley scored a decisive win against Alton. In there allotted 15 8 ball overs Yateley grafted to 111 for 8. Tom Wood and George Sandford were both forced to retire having scored 20. A late rally from Jack "mini" Wood who scored 19 not out say us to our total. Jack Myers took 5 wickets for Alton.
Alton were never in the hunt against the pace of Tom Lyons and Ben Swingler-Brown each took 3 wickets.
Alton were bowled out for 81 in the 14th over as Yateley romped home by 30 runs.
This was another good victory as Yateley kept up their unbeaten run.

23 May 2005 - Yateley U11B v Hartley Wintney

Paul Finch reports:
Yateley batted first against HWCC and Wells and Meade got off to a steady start with a partnership of 18 runs for the first four overs. Hull, Finch and Parsons added to the total scoring 6, 5 and 6 respectively. HWCC gave us 53 extras to take our final run tally to 96. Both teams were extravagant with the number of wides and no balls and perhaps more runs could have been scored with the bat if the bowling had been more playable.
HWCC were subject to some aggressive bowling from Hull and Mead who made an immediate impact, taking the first three wickets for just one run between them, with the first being neatly taken behind by Halson keeping wicket. Yateley had HWCC on the back foot and forced two dismissals by run out, before Finch, Grimmett and Wells all took wickets by hitting the stumps.
Yateley generally fielded well, whilst we gave too many extras away, some of the bowling was too good for HWCC when we did manage to put it in the right place and the result never really looked in doubt with Yateley notching up our second win of the season. We will be looking for a more disciplined performance next time out though, but the signs are good and with a little more focus on technique in the batting and bowling departments, the score book should look a little tidier

24 May 2005 - Yateley U13A v Aldershot

John Muir reports:
Yateley made it 3 wins out of 3 despite being without several key players.Tom with his customary 30 retired, Ollie Barker (28), Hugh Squire (27 no) and Dan Vincent (19 no) say Yateley to a creditable 130 for 1.
In reply Aldershot were quickly out of the game. Chris James 3 for 6 and Harry Bartlett 3 for 12 say Aldershot reeling at 23 for 7. Skipper Wood then used the match to get some valuable practise with all 10 outfield player getting a bowl. Aldershot ended up all oot 66 to see Yateley win by 64 runs.
Some interesting facts of the season so far :
Yateley only lost 5 wickets in 3 games scoring 437 runs
Tom Wood 3 consecutive scores of 30 no
Ollie Barker 88 runs being out only once
James Muir 3 byes conceded in 3 games

22 May 2005 - Yateley U9 v Hartley Wintney

Emma Cowdrill reports:
What a difference a week makes. Despite an indifferent training session on the Friday, the Yateley team that took to the field at St Neots was poised and confident. It's difficult not to wax lyrical about their performance, but from the first they played like a team. Fielding - where we are often weak - was tight, led by Captain Jamie Innes. A powerful batting performance by Jacob Vincent (16 runs) and another strong bowling performance by Isaac Cowdrill (3 overs, 3 wickets, 5 runs) together with wickets from Liam Roper, Jacob Vincent and Paddy Finch gave us a morale boosting victory. Mention must also be made of another strong performance by our youngest player 'T' Halson - still an Under 7! - and to Anthony McGowan and Thomas Dowell playing in their first league match.

20 May 2005 - Yateley U11A v Hartley Wintney (N. Hants Div 1)

Kevin Wood reports:
Yateley put in a solid all round performance to secure their third successive league win. Batting first Yateley scored 97-1 off their 20 overs with Chris Clubb, Jack Springgay, William Avrili and Miles Covers all reaching double figures. We are hopeful of reaching bigger totals in future - with so many wickets in hand through the retirement of early order batsmen we can really afford to "go for it" in the middle/lower order and push our scores up to the 120 mark. Nonetheless a good all round batting display.
We bowled a lot tidier than in our last match and kept the wide/no ball count down to 16 which is very good. Antony Avrili took the pace off the ball with his off-spin which proved very effective "down and acroos the slope" into the right handers. His figures of 4-1-6-3 were top class.Josh Parkin chipped in with 2 wickets in a tidy spell and Hartley were kept to 62-6 in their 20 overs - a win by 35 runs.
Keep it up lads!

17 May 2005 - Yateley U13B v Fleet

John Muir reports:
Our winning run came to an end as our bowling and fielding was very poor. Yateley took only 1 wicket as Fleet scored 134 runs.
When batting Yateley quickly fell behind the run rate and wickets fell at regular intervals. Marcus Fairclough with 12 was the only player to reach double figures as Yateley finished on 83 for 7 at the end of their 20 overs.

15 May 2005 - Yateley U9 v Rowledge

Emma Cowdrill reports:
We were unlucky to lose this match - a 10 a side with Rowledge lending us 2 fielders. Runs were very hard to come by on this tiny pitch, which always seemed over populated with fielders. Our all round attitude had improved, but despite the superb bowling from Isaac Cowdrill (4 overs, 4 wickets for 5 runs) and strong batting from Jacob Vincent (14 runs) and 'T' Halson (7 runs) the 3 fours that the Rowledge fielder missed whilst sitting on the boundary meant the target was just too much.

15 May 2005 - Yateley U13A v Basingstoke

John Muir reports:
Against a team though to be one of the best in the league Yateley again scored a comfortable victory. Batting first Yateley amassed 154 for 1. Tom Wood and Ollie Barker both retired on 30, then Tom Lyons powered 31 before also retiring.
Basingstoke were never in the hunt especially as Yateley took a wicket in the first over. Aaron Walters 2 for 14 prevented any chance with 2 wickets when they looked dangerous and Yateley run out winners by 34 runs.
This was a good team performance with all the boys contributing in the field

15 May 2005 - Yateley U11A v Cove (North Hants Div 1)

Kevin Wood reports:
This match turned into a tense struggle between two sides with much respect (and rivalry) between them. Yateley chose to bat and, despite some fine bowling from Coves' star performer, Matt Carter (3-10), made 94-5 from their 20 overs.Chris James was Yateleys top scorer with 18 no, which included 3 fine back foot shots for boundaries.Generally the rest of Yateley's batsmen did well but we just lacked some energy with shot making and running between the wickets which could have yielded 15-20 more runs.
Cove made 76-9 from their 20 overs and, so it would seem,a comfortable victory by 18 runs. Although there were good spells from Chris James (including a fine "ct & bwld" to dismiss Carter), Antony Avrili, and Jack Wood, Yateley made hard work of their bowling and gave away over 40 runs to wides and no balls. There was always a chance that Cove could have reached their target if Yateley bowled one or two more bad overs and this is an area of our game that we will seek to improve. Having said that, we kept our nerve in the field to take our catches, and also complete 3 good run outs to demonstrate our skills as a good fielding side.
Overall a good victory for our 2nd match of the season, but this team is capable of stronger performances.

11 May 2005 - Yateley U9 v Cove

Emma Cowdrill reports:
Our lack of experienced players really showed in this match which was also short on team spirit. Cove were the deserved winnners, although excellent bowling from Jamie Innes and Liam Roper and a lovely 6 from Adam Handcock were some compensation. Special mention to Providence Cowdrill (aged 6) who stepped in when one of our players didn't turn up and faced Cove's fast bowler without losing her wicket!

10 May 2005 - Yateley U13B v Odiham

John Muir reports:
As the gloom set in the boys did the club proud rallying to a superb 4 wicket victory.
The boys did not bowl to the same standard as they did at Rowledge but restricted Odiham to 113 for 2.
In reply things looked gloomy at 22 for 4, but then when Odiham had to use their change bowlers Tom Vincent (30 ret) and Elgan Howells (10) started to turn things round, they were aided by a number of wides and no balls. At 91 for 6 Anthony Muir (10 no) and David Cole (4no) saw the team to victory with 2.3 overs remaining.
The evening ended with smiles on the faces of boys and parents alike and a coach who thought he had won the series against the Aussies.

May 2005 - Cove 6-a-side Competition

Paul Finch reports:
Yateley entered the Cove 6 a side tournament fielding the successful U9 team from last season. The U10s as they are now had not previously played a hard ball tournament, which meant that the lads were keen to progress past the soft ball stage and play real cricket in the final. We over came Cove B in the first match and the team automatically found the team spirit of last season which saw us to tournament victory in the Hambledon and Basingstoke Festival's.
The next match saw Yateley draw local rivals Hartley Whitney and the boys were apprehensive, casting their memories back to the semi final of the Basingstoke festival last season when we beat them in a real thriller. This time though the game was far from close with Yateley focused on getting the result which in the end we did comfortably.
The final saw us meet the home U11a team, Yateley batted first with Springgay and Bone getting off to a really good start. The later batting got bogged down, although we did not lose our nerve and only lost the one wicket when Adam and Miles tried to force a run where there was not one. We came off the field a little dejected, only having 19 runs on the board. The heads were down and the boys had to be reminded of how well they had bowled and fielded to reach the final. Ryan who captained the side rallied the troops and by the time we retook the field a new spirit had been conjured up.
The first over from Springgay was the best of the tournament and in my view deserved the individual performance award. Springgay bowled an inspiring maiden and the team were back in the game.
There was encouragement from all parts of the pitch and the fielding was as if Yateley had 11 players on the pitch not 6. Wickets from Miles, a run out from Jack and two catches from Ryan, saw Cove reduced to a batting side who could not get the ball away and the more they forced it, the more Yateley took control of the match with cricket in the field that the club can be extremely proud of. Not until the last over, when Cove needed 24 to win did Yateley show any signs of nerves. Despite Cove notching up some runs to reduce their blushes, it was all a little to late and the Yateley U10s continued their unbeaten tournament record completing a memorable victory.
This was a performance beyond their years in maturity and skill which received praise from Roy Finney in the presentation after the final.

8 May 2005 - Yateley U13A v Eversley

John Muir reports:
Yateley started their season with an easy win over Eversley.
Tom Wood (30 ret) and Ollie Barker (33 ret) set the innings off in style and later all the other batsmen contribured runs as Yateley declared at 153 for 3.
Eversley were never in the hunt as all the bowlers kept a tight line. Eversley were restricted to 100 for 4.
Yateley ran out winners by 53 runs

8 May 2005 - Yateley U11A v Rowledge (North Hants Div 1)

Kevin Wood reports:
Yateley batted first and scored 110-2 in our 20 overs with 9 batsmen retiring having batted their 4 overs.Jack Wood top scored with 18no and James Halson, JonathanDow, Josh Parkin and Peter Hull all made it into double figures. Overall a good batting display for the first match of the season.
Unusually we gave away 22 runs to wides and no balls in the Rowledge innings ( probably due to cold hands, "------" cold for a sunny day!) but our bowling was still too strong for the opposition who were 49-9 at the end of their 20 overs. We did well in the field and it was good to see the winter fielding drills pay off to complete 2 slick run outs.Everybody bowled and the 7 wickets to fall were taken by 7 different bowlers.
Well done lads on a good performance - next game is Cove at Home on Sunday!

7 May 2005 - Yateley U13B v Rowledge

John Muir reports:
Dan Bailey 4 for 7 and Elgan Howells 4 for 8 ripped the heart of the Rowledge batting. Rowledge were bowled out only 68. This a was wonderful performance to start the season.
In reply Yateley made short work of reaching their target getting there for the loss of 3 wickets in only 13 overs. D Vincent scored 27 and Marcus Fairclough 12 no

3 May 2005 - Yateley U11B v Rowledge

Paul Finch reports:
The weather threatened to spoil our first match against Rowledge, but the evening was spared the wet conditions and under dark skies the game went ahead.
Rowledge batted first and struggled against some excellent bowling by Yateley, although in the excitement of the first game there were one or two unnecessary, wides, no balls and byes. Rowledge only managed 4 runs from the bat, the remainder of their 53 scored came from a lack of discipline in the field. Hull, Finch, Avrilli and Bailey were the most economical, whilst Springgay and Aspell-Beaumont did the most damage taking 5 wickets between them.
We batted well with Dow, Halson and Covers reaching double figures and the victory was secured by the fourteenth over. Ben Wells played some nice strokes and generally the calling and running was of a good standard for the first match of the season.
We will have to be more disciplined in our next match and we know we can improve in the field, so all in all a bright start for the U11b team in spite of the cold dark conditions.

2 May 2005 - Yateley U9 in Cove Tournament

Emma Cowdrill reports:
After only a handful of training sessions the under 9's had a rusty start in the Cove Tournament - especially as a player pulled out 30mins before it was due to commence! (Well done & thank-you Kesley who was in bed when told he needed to be ready to be picked up in 15 mins.)
Despite an untidy performance the boys managed to come away as winners of the plate competition.
