YATELEY U13's Win 15/15 Final v Eversley
|
Chris Roper reports
The U13A team claimed yet another trophy in their record breaking season when they won the North Hampshire Youth Cricket League 15/15 Final against Eversley in Monday evening’s final hosted by Basingstoke CC.
Batting first in damp cloudy conditions openers James Halson and Charlie Harris had to work hard for runs in the early overs against an accurate Eversley attack, they put on 48 before Charlie was run out for a fine 23. Ryan Bone followed straight after to an excellent swinging delivery which brought Miles Covers to the crease. Miles sustained a leg strain early on in his innings and batted most of the time with Ryan as his runner. Batting with one good leg did not seem to hamper Miles’ hitting too much as he made a fluent 23. By now James had retired for a top captain’s knock of 25 allowing Peter Phillips to join the fray. Peter produced one of his special ‘pinch hitting’ innings that have been such a feature this season, he struck five boundaries in his 25, the last of which was far too strong for his new Salix bat that proceeded to snap in two! Some frantic running by the lower order of Ben Moran-Wardle, Ollie Soames, Liam Roper and Isaac Cowdrill ensured we reached a more than respectable total of 134 for 8 in testing conditions.
During the interval we were forced to re think our bowling strategy as Miles was unfit to field, we also called on the services of young Tom Halson (aged 10) as a sub fielder. The new strategy involved Ben Moran-Wardle our left arm spinner taking the second over up the hill against the wind, this also had more than a bit to do with our two remaining senior quick bowlers’ (Charlie and Peter) emotional pleas to bowl downhill with the wind! In the end it proved a gem of a decision by the skipper as Ben took 2 wickets in his first over. The backbone of Eversley’s innings was powerful 40 made by their opener Marc Heppell as wicket fell regularly at the other end. A typically proficient bowling and fielding display resulted in Eversley being dismissed for 86 in the 14th over. Our wicket takers were Ben (2 for 12), James (2 for 18), Charlie (1 for 11), Ollie (1 for 14) and Isaac (2 for 5).
Well done boys, yet again you have done the club and yourselves proud and a big thank you to Tom Halson for substitute fielding in the cold.
The team comprised: James Halson (Capt), Ryan Bone, Charlie Harris, Miles Covers, Peter Phillips, Ben Moran-Wardle, Oliver Soames, Liam Roper, Isaac Cowdrill. The following also took part in previous rounds of the15/15 Cup: Jack Wood, Ben Tucker, Jacob Vincent, James Wilson and Tom Nicholls. All players and the trophy are shown in the picture below.
YATELEY U13's FINISH RUNNERS-UP IN NATIONAL FINALS
|
Yateley U13's finished Runners-Up by the narrowest of margins in the 2008 National Finals of the ECB "Spirit of Cricket" Championship. In a week of rain affected cricket at Oakham School both Yateley and the eventual winners North Middlesex were the only teams to win all their matches and rain denied them the chance to play each other. North Middlesex were declared the winners on run rate - by scoring at 0.04 fewer balls per run than Yateley!!
Yateley's completed matches are briefly summarised below:
Hatherleigh (Devon) batted first in the opening match and were reduced to 17-3 by Jack Wood who clean bowled 3 batsmen in an opening spell of 3-0-4-3. Hatherleigh rebuilt with an impressive 34 from the opening batsman and finished on 75-6 from 20 overs. Wood finished with figures of 4-0-7-4. Yateley never looked in trouble in chasing down the total which they reached in the 12th over - Wood 20, James Halson 17 and Peter Phillips 27no.
Yateleys first match on the main Oakham pitch (where Leics play 1st class matches) was against Wakefield Thorns, and batting first reached 139-5 from 20 overs. Halson (31 ret) and Wood (15) put on 45 for the first wicket followed by excellent batting from Miles Covers (33 ret) and Ryan Bone (20). Yateleys attack was too strong for Wakefield who made 68-9 in reply. The stand-out bowler was Covers with 4-1-17-3 and an U12 player Tom Nichols turned in impressive figures of 3-2-3-1.
Barton under Needwood (Staffs) to play next, in a match reduced to 10 overs a side due to the weather. Barton reached 71-5 with Wood turning in the best figures of 2-0-8-1. Yateley got home with 4 balls to spare in a nail biting finish with Ben Moran-Wardle ("BMW") proving that he is more than just a "leftie orthodox" bringing Yateley home with a tremendous 18no off just 11 balls.
Sheringham (Norfolk) are managed by Chris Sutton - ex Blackburn,Chelsea,Celtic, - and proved to be the best fielding side that Yateley played. Yateley batted first and got off to their best start of the week. Wood 32 (ret), Halson 22 and Charlie Harris 16 getting to 80-1 in 11 overs. The innings faltered from this point and ended on 127 in the last over. Again, Yateleys attack was too strong for the opposition and Sheringham were bowled out for 76 in the final over with Peter Phillips (4-0-13-2) and BMW (4-0-5-3) bowling well.
A tense final match against 3rd placed Leamington on the main pitch lay in prospect on the final morning, with Yateley lying second behind North Middlesex on run rate and Leamington also able to win the Finals if they beat Yateley. Leamington were put in to bat and were pegged back by an excellent opening spell from Phillips (4-0-13-2). A middle order recovery helped Leamington reach 99-9 from 20 overs with wickets shared between the bowlers. Yateley's response had to be balanced between the need for quick runs and ensuring a win to stay level on points with the leaders. "Woody" anchored the innings with 30 ret off 30 balls and Yateley finished on 104-2 with "Boney" completing the chase in the 17th over with some powerful drives over long off in his unbeaten 23.
A match between North Middlesex and Yateley - the 2 best U13 Club teams in the country - would have been a fitting end to the week but it was not to be. The Yateley players should be very proud of their cricket during the week and they were a credit to their club and Hampshire.
The Yateley squad:
Ryan Bone, Miles Covers, Isaac Cowdrill, James Halson, Charlie Harris, Ben Moran-Wardle, Tom Nichols, Peter Phillips,Liam Roper, Oliver Soames, Ben Tucker, Jacob Vincent, Jack Wood.
20 July - U13s MARCH INTO NATIONAL FINALS
|
Our all-conquering U13s have won through to the National Finals week in the 'MCC Spirit of Cricket' U13 Club competition. Playing in the South and South East section at Horsham CC last Tuesday, our U13s had a wonderful day winning both their matches with a degree of ease.
We beat Blackheath (Kent) in the semi-final by 7 wickets after Blackheath posted 78 all out. The wickets were shared between Charlie Harris (3-17), Jack Wood (2-11) and Miles Covers (2-20) but we were also indebteded to an opening spell of 4 overs for just 5 runs from Ben Tucker. Three terrific run outs helped. In reply Jack Wood (22), James Wilson (19) and Charlie Harris (18no) knocked of the runs in 15 overs.
In the final Yateley ran up 139 for 7 in their 20 overs with James Halson 32 ret, Jack Wood 30 ret, Peter Phillips 25, Charlie Harris 17 and Ben Tucker 12 . Wimbledon reached 101 for 8 with Ben Tucker 3-17, Jack Wood 2 - 4 and Ben Moran-Wardle 1-15.
The squad will be playing against the other 7 regional winners at Oakham School in Leicestershire from August 4th to 7th and the club wishes the lads the very best of luck and they take on the country's best U13 teams.

24 July - YATELEY U11's WIN 15/15 Final by 1 Run
|
Mark handcock reports:
Yateley U11a's beat Holybourne in a last ball thriller in the final of the 15/15 cup final.
On a lovely sunny evening (at last) at Alton, Yateley and Holybourne went head to head in the cup final.
Yateley won the toss and decided to bat first, which looked like a good decision with openers Adam Handcock and Ben Gray both retiring with the score approaching 60 for none. Skipper Mark Tucker was next up with Matthew Shakespeare and again Mark went on to notch up an undefeated 25. The game turned in Holybourne's favour with hard hitting Matthew Shakespeare getting out cheaply and our most reliable batsman this year, Tom Halson also falling for only 2 runs. We did not really recover from this double blow and ended up with 113 for 3 off our 15 overs, with Matthew Everett, Elliot Mitchell and James Dinsdale contributing a few at the death. Tom Gardner would of been next man in but did not make it to the crease - sorry Tom, but your fielding tonight was first class - well done.
Holybourne then made a slow start with Adam taking a peach of a catch at full stetch in the covers off the bowling of Mark, to put them 2 runs for 1 wicket off the first over. Mark and Tom continued to bowl well and after 6 overs Holybourne only had 30 on the board and I was standing at square leg thinking that this was all but over!!
At this point our bowling became a little ragged and their county player, Brad Taylor, took full advantage and before we knew it Holybourne were in the driving seat and only needed 14 off the last 2 (8 ball) overs to win. I could hear some of the boys muttering that we had lost the match and a few heads were going down, but skipper Mark Tucker got the boys pumped up for the last two overs... At this point Matthew Shakespeare was called back into the attack and bowled a fantastic over with two wickets (clean bowled) for only 6 runs, including Brad their county player.
So the last over and little Ben Gray had to bowl 8 balls and stop Holybourne scoring 8 runs to win. If he was as nervous as me then he was probably best off bowling under arm. Ben started the over well with 3 dot balls and again I was planning a speech for the presentation night, but then a wide and a couple of singles left Holybourne requiring 3 to win or 2 to draw off the last ball.
Out went the field to protect the boundary and in came Ben to bowl (only the brave could watch), the ball was struck cleanly towards the boundary with Adam giving chase. They had run 1 and were coming back for what looked like an easy 2, but Adam turned and from 30 yards delivered the ball right over the stumps, where Ben was waiting to whip off the bails and run the Holybourne batsman out by 12 inches. The boys went mad and Yateley win by 1 run, what a night !!!
Well done boys, you did yourselves proud tonight, put on a great show for everyone watching and came home with the trophy.
On a final note I just wanted to say well played to Holybourne and if I'm honest a draw would of been a fair result as neither team deserved to loose such a great game. Brad Taylor, the key man for Holybourne, took a nasty blow on the ankle but struggled on - great effort Brad.
19 July - YATELEY U11's Beat Eversley in 15/15 Semi-Final
|
Mark handcock reports:
Eversley batted first and hit 92 for 8 off their 15 overs.
Outstanding bowling from Tom Halson (3 overs 1 wkt for 10 runs) & Mark Tucker (3 overs 1 wkt for 4 runs), got us off to a great start and then steady bowling throughout kept the runs down before Ben Gray came on at the death to bowl 3 overs for 17 runs taking 3 wkts.
Yateley boys never looked in trouble and hit 93 in 10 overs with the loss of just one wicket (run out). Adam Handcock and Ben Gray opened the innings and put on 53 before both had to retire. Adam finshed his knock with a 4 and 6 off successive deliveries and Ben finished his account with a lovely leg glance for 4.
With the openers gone Mark Tucker Tom Halson and Colin Philips played sensibly to see us over the finish line with plenty left in the tank.
Well played boys and now the final.... on 23 July at Alton.
18 July - YATELEY U13's PROGRESS TO REGIONAL FINALS OF ECB NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
|
Yateley U13's continued their fine run in this year's Championship with an emphatic 9 wicket win over Ventnor in the Regional Qualifying round. Undaunted by their "overseas" trip to The Isle of Wight - which included almost as many modes of transport as Michael Palin! - the boys turned in a tremendous performance.
Ventnor elected to bat and their openers looked a threat with 3 or 4 very good boundaries through extra cover. "Mr Consistency" Ben Tucker opened with a tidy spell of 4-1-9-1, but it was the double change of bowling to Charlie Harris and Ben Moran-Wardle ("BMW") that changed the innings. Both took 2 wickets in a joint spell that conceded just 17 runs from 8 overs - top work lads! James "Jimmy" Halson chipped in with 2 late wickets and his excellent throw, followed by some great glovework by Ryan "Boney" produced a tremendous run out that even drew applause from the partisan crowd. Ventnor finished on 65-8 from their 20 overs.
Jack "Woody" and Jimmy opened for Yateley and scored 18 from the first 3 overs before Jimmy chased a wide one to be caught behind for 9. Charlie Harris joined Woody and they batted steadily to see off the openers before scoring freely off the other bowlers. Their unbroken stand of 48 saw Yateley home at 66-1 off just 9 overs, with Woody 26no and Charlie 12no. Shot of the day was a classic straight drive from Woody ( with a "Vaughan pose") which would have been 4 on any other ground - except for Ventnor where it gets stuck on the hill (those that know the ground can explain!).
Our main bowlers/batsmen were as ever given fantastic support in the field by our U12's who often don't get as much bat/ball action as they deserve - thanks fellas : Ike Cowdrill, Liam Roper, Ollie Soames, Jacob Vincent and James Wilson. Your turn next year!
And finally..........the mini-bus ride back to the port. The driver, who was clearly moonlighting from his days jobs as Senior Correction Officer - Parkhurst Prison and Anti-Tourist Trade Manager, spotted Gerard Soames in his rear view mirror, about to take a bite out of a sandwich, apparently a criminal offence abroad. His admonishments were drowned out by the lads at the back singing our new team song.......great fun.... And the song?....The Austin Powers theme!! It was that sort of day!
The REGIONAL FINALS are on Tuesday 22nd July when Yateley take on the winners from Kent (Blackheath), Surrey (Wimbledon) and Sussex (Hastings) to qualify for the National Finals. (All county Premier League clubs). The venue is Horsham CC, RH12 1TE, and Yateleys semi-final v Blackheath (Kent) starts at 10.30am. The final or 3rd/4th play-off match starts at 2-00pm. Please make an effort to be there to support our boys.

19 June - YATELEY U13B RESUME LEAGUE CAMPAIGN WITH 2 MORE WINS
|
Chris Roper reports:
After a 3 week break due to weather, the U13Bs resumed their league campaign with 2 victories.
On Sunday 15 May we travelled to Alton where we batted first against a disciplined attack. Jacob Vincent and Christian King gave us a good start. After losing Christian for 11 Jacob went on to score a fine 30 retired. Liam Roper (21), Isaac Cowdrill (14) and Jaques Pienaar (12) took the innings to 111 after 20 overs. In the end it proved enough but at the time we felt it was 15 runs below par.
In reply Alton got of to flying start with Cooper making 20 and Mason 32 retired. The return of Tom Nichols for second spell at the end of the innings proved enough to restrict Alton’s reply to 101 as he picked up 3 wickets. The other wicket takers were Christian King (1), Jaques Pienaar (1) and Jacob Vincent. A close 10 run victory.
On Thursday 19 June we secured an even closer win at home to Old Basing. Batting first we failed to reach our desired score of 120 finishing on 97 for 6 off 20 overs. Old Basing bowled well throughout but we missed a number of scoring opportunities and must work on reducing the number of dot balls in the final 10 overs. The innings was dominated by Isaac Cowdrill 32 retired and Christian King 18. Jaques Pienaar, Liam Roper and Josh Grimmett also made valuable contributions.
In reply Old Basing looked on for a comfortable win after D Gary scored a quick fire 30 retired, after 10 overs they were only 30 short of our target. We then turned in a great bowling display that resulted in a steady stream of wickets. It included the highlight of the season so far, a hatrick by off spinner Christian King – all 3 batters clean bowled; he finished with 4 for 18 from 4 top overs of flight and turn. Christian is pictured with the match ball flanked by 2 very proud coaches. Jaques Pieenar chipped in with 3 wickets and Isaac Cowdrill 2 – all victims clean bowled! With the help of a run out we dismissed Old Basing for 89 in the 16th over. An 8 run win this time.

9 June - Yateley’s Under 9B team triumphs
|
Debbie Pienaar reports:
A closely fought match against Dogmersfield CC sees Yateley’s under 9 B team get their first win of the season.
Yateley went into bat first and some excellent partnerships were formed. James Croshaw and Lawrence Fannon scored a useful 34 off their 4 overs. Follwed by Matthew and Ben Cameron who together scored 38 runs off their 4 overs.
Yateley scored 280 from their 16 overs which gave them a good target to defend.
Craig Barry and Ben Cameron got the side off to a good start. Craig bowled an excellent line and length restricting Dogmersfield to 10 runs off his two overs. Ben, being our youngest player (5 years old), showed his potential and almost took his first wicket.
James Croshaw and Matthew Willis followed with an excellent spell of bowling, with Matthew restricting them to 5 off his two overs. James also restricted them to 5 off his 2 overs, but impressively didn’t bowl one wide ball.
Andre Pienaar’s bowling has much improved, with him bowling much straighter and thus conceding fewer wides. Nicholas Pipe partnered Andre very well, with him picking up one of only two wickets taken during the innings.
Lawrence Fannon and Matthew Cameron bowled the final 4 overs. Lawrence took the second wicket of the innings and Matthew Cameron bowled impressively going for 4 runs off his two overs.
Dogersfield ended their innings on 266, thus giving Yateley CC a 14 run victory. The team fielded particularly well, especially the wicket keeping by each player. But what impressed the coach the most is the improvement in the bowling and the reduced number of wide’s that were bowled.
Well done boys.

U15 15/15 Cup v Alton
|
John Muir reports:
The pressures of being a coach are starting to tell on most colts teams at the moment with cancelled games. Yateley U15's have had 5 games called of in less than 3 weeks. Also it brings pressure on trying to get everyone into the game. Last week we played 2nd Division Hook in the 15/15 Cup and I adjusted the batting order. I put James Muir at No 5, and he repeated to me 3 times No5? As I left the changing room I got an ever more asking No5? We started the game and after 4 8 ball overs and 3 balls we were 20 for 3. Ironically there was no reply from James. He strode to the wicket and played a captain's innings of 25 ret aided by Sam Munden 15. Chris Clubb added 24, Lee Fegredo 7 (but he run is socks off) and Harry Bartlett 20 no as we finished on 147 for 7.
Hook were never in the running against a varied Yateley attack with Jon Dow 1 for 7. Harry Bartlett took 1 for 16 and Anthony Muir 2 for 18 as Hook were kept to 92 for 7. For the record my tactics were not questioned again, but I guess as we won the game they must have been right !!!
14 May - U15 v Alton
|
John Muir reports:
Alton have been a bit of an achilles heel in recent years and things looked bleak when James, Dow and Clubb were all out ith only 35 on the board. But unsung Sam Munden became the hero with a magnificent 35. James Muir hit 15 but played 2nd fiddle to Sam. Yateley were eventually 124 for 7 after 20 overs.
Alton's 2 county players Myers and covey took the score to 53 for 0 but then Jon Dow took 3 wickets to redress te balance. Jon then decided to head the ball Ronaldo style from a field from the deep. 13 year old Ben Tucker came back to tae an important wicket and finished with 1 for 13. Alton finished on 106for 7 as Yateley won by 18 runs.
It is good to see that we have strength throughout the side and congratulations to Sam as he was the Man of the Match for Yateley.
9 May - U15 v Cove
|
John Muir reports:
Yateley opened their season with an easy 6 wicket victory over Cove. Yateley opted to field. Anthony Muir rocked Cove with 3 for 11 off 4 overs as Cove found themselves 14 for 3. Although Cove's county players Matt Carter and Nick Farr took the score to 69 for 4 they did not score quickly enough against an accurate attack and after 20 overs they were restricted to 78 for 4.
Despite losing an early wicket Jack Wood and Jon Dow put on 55 for the second wicket. Jon scored 38 to anchor the innings and lead his side to a 6 wicket victory.
YATELEY U13B WIN OPENING 2 LEAGUE MATCHES
|
Chris Roper reports:
Our Under 13B team has made a good start to the season winning their first 2 matches in the North Hampshire Youth Cricket League Second Division.
On 9 May we travelled to Overton where we batted first against an experienced opening attack. Jacob Vincent and Oliver Soames, on his debut, got us off to a great start. Oliver hit some fine attacking shots, including 7 boundaries before he retired on 30. Jacob was dismissed for 19 and following run a ball 7 from Christian King, Liam Roper (16 not out) maintained the tempo and supported by Armand Bosch, also on debut, took our total to 127 for 2 from 20 overs. In reply we managed to bowl all 10 bowlers and restrict Overton to 112 for 4 to secure a 15 run win. Our 2 off spinners Connor Gains and Christian King including a first stumping for Liam, took a wicket each and good ground fielding contributed 2 run outs. The bowlers used were: Jaques Pienaar, Armand Bosch, Jamie Innes, Cameron Farmer, Tom Payne, Connor Gains, Oliver Soames, Tom Troughton, Jacob Vincent and Christian King.
On 18 May we travelled to Oakley and again batted first. Despite the early loss of Oliver Soames, Jacob Vincent and Christian King ensured we reached our halfway target of 60 from 10 overs. Both boys found the gaps in the field and punished any bad balls and deservedly retired on 30 not out. Liam Roper (14) and Isaac Cowdrill (27 not out) with some fine hitting including 5 boundaries, supported by Tom Nichols on debut, Tom Troughton and Armand Bosch took the total to an excellent 143 for 4.
In reply we managed to share the bowling around and dismiss Oakley for 52. The leading wicket takers were Tom Payne, Christian King and Anthony McGowan with 2 wickets each with Armand Bosch, Tom Nichols, and Isaac Cowdrill taking one a piece. These bowlers were ably supported by Tom Troughton, Jacob Vincent and George Masters whose 2 overs only cost 2 runs.
7 May 08 - U11a beat Basingstoke in 1st round of 15/15 Cup
|
Mark Handcock reports:
After two weeks of rain and more rain, the boys finally managed to run out on the
pitch at Yateley and play some cricket, thanks to the hard work from the ground staff!
Basingstoke won the toss and decided to let us bat first on a soft, but drying wicket.
This looked to have payed off, as Adam Handcock went for 4 in the first over, but Ben
Gray (27n.o) and Matthew Shakespeare (21) then batted sensibly and between them put on
nearly 50 runs before the next wicket fell. Matthew was bowled by a yorker and soon
after Ben had to retire as he had reached 25. The next 6 batsmen chipped in with 13
runs off the bat, but the Basingstoke bowlers began to loose their way and ended up
bowling 39 extras, with Yateley reaching a final total of 104 for 6.
104 did not look quite enough, but Yateley have a strong bowling attack and it was
going to be close (very close).
Basingstoke started in similar fashion to Yateley, loosing their first wicket in the
first over, with a fine delivery from Mark Tucker, clean bowling their opener.
Basingstoke then settled and were helped by some sloppy fielding, giving away valuable
runs. Tom Halson then made another break through after a fine spell of bowling, but
again Basingstoke continued to whittle away at our now modest looking score. The
Basingstoke skipper was the real danger and it was good to see him retire after hitting
25n.o, but after 13 overs they were on 89 for 5 and at the same stage we had been on 89
for 6.
The last two overs were going to be close and with the light fading and spectators
from both sides giving their support, it was going to be a case of which boys held
their nerve and I must admit I was beginning to loose mine. Matthew bowled the 14th
over and off 8 balls only conceded 4 runs, which was a fantastic over and left them
needing 12 to win off one 8 ball over. Our captain for the evening, Ben, stepped up to
bowl the last over (having told me he did not want to bowl last) and kept his nerve to
bowl a great over of controlled bowling, leaving Basingstoke on 99 for 6.
Fantastic evening – well played boys !!
5 May 08 - Under 11 win Cove Tournament AGAIN!
|
Mark Handcock reports:
Just wanted to say well done again to the boys and beating Eversley so easily in the final, made it even more special.
We finished on 60 for 1 in 6 overs, therefore a net score of 55 of our six overs.
Eversley finished on 36 for 3 off six overs, therefore a net score of 21 of six overs.
Also congratulations to Matthew Shakespeare, who won player of the tournament, for his
work with bat & ball, top scoring with 20 in the final.
I thought the boys played very well and it was a good team performance all day, once
the rain finally stopped. Thanks to Sarah Tucker for scoring all day - much appreciated.
My champagne moment had to be the catch that Ben took in the earlier game, which reminded
me of a certain catch that Strauss made in the ashes a few years ago, closely followed by
the straight six that Adam hit in the final off their opening bowler.
Mark & Tom gave nothing away all day with the ball and Colin showed us all what he can
do with a bat in his hands, finishing with 19 in the final !!

10 March 08 YATELEY U13B V HOLYBOURNE U13
|
Chris Roper reports:
The Under 13B maintained their 100% record with a good win over Holybourne on Monday 10 March and as a result returned to the top of the league. Holybourne batted first, despite conceding a six to the first ball tight early bowling from Armand Bosch and Isaac Cowdrill restricted the run rate. Further pressure was applied by excellent fielding producing 2 run outs. We managed to dismiss Holybourne for 57 runs in the 12th over with Jacob Vincent, Christian King, Jamie Innes and Isaac Cowdrill taking a wicket each.
In reply Jacob Vincent got the team off to a fine start with a fine 21 runs retired. Isaac Cowdrill (9 not out) and Liam Roper (10 not out) then secured victory in the 7th over to claim a maximum 5 points.
Once again well played boys, 23 points from a possible 25 so far this season.
|
22 Feb 08 YATELEY U13B V BASING HAWKS U13
|
Chris Roper reports:
The Under 13B team made it 4 wins from 4 with a convincing win against Basing Hawks on Friday
22 February. Old Basing batted first and made a steady start reaching 15 without loss in the
first 2 overs. Jamie Innes then applied the brakes by taking a wicket, clean bowled, with his
first ball. Christian King then produced a fine spell of off spin bowling to take 3 wickets
for only 7 runs in 3 overs. With Isaac Cowdrill and Tom Nicholls picking up the final 2
wickets we dismissed Old Basing for 71 runs in the 12th and final over.
Required to reach our target with the loss of 2 wickets or less to claim maximum bonus
points, the boys batted extremely well. James Wilson got us off to a rapid start with 21
retired. Isaac Cowdrill (12 not out) and Liam Roper (11 not out) then saw us home with fine
placement and running to a 6 wicket victory in the 6th over to secure a maximum 5 points.
Once again well played boys, 18 points from a possible 20 far this season.

30 Jan 08 YATELEY U13B V OVERTON U13
|
Chris Roper reports:
The Under 13B team made it 3 wins from 3 with a convincing win against Overton on Wednesday 30 January.
Batting first the boys recorded their highest score in the league, a commendable 180 for 1 from
12 overs. Our total was boosted by a high proportion of extras but when given the opportunity the
boys scored runs quickly off the bat with some fine boundaries. Three of our players retired,
Jacob Vincent (20), James Wilson (21) and Liam Roper (22) and Tom Nichols in his first game for
the club was not out 16 at the end.
In reply we restricted Overton to 97 for 2 in their 12 overs to secure an 84 run victory.
The pick of the bowlers was Armand Bosch with 2 for 7 from 2 overs, he was supported well by
Tom, Isaac, James and Jacob.
Once again well played boys, 13 points from a possible 15 so far this season.

Chris Roper reports:
The Under 13B team now top the ‘Hoggard’ Indoor league following a 55 run victory over Basingstoke on Wednesday 28 November. The backbone of our total of 97 was an undefeated 23 from one of the openers, Isaac Cowdrill who was partnered in a good first wicket stand by Jacob Vincent (10). The innings was given valuable acceleration by James Wilson (7) and Liam Roper (14), and with some good running by Christian King and Armand Bosch in the final over we reached 97.
At the midway point we were a little disappointed with the score as we should have set a total of 130 to gain a batting bonus point, credit should be given to Basingstoke who bowled very accurately to restrict our run rate. In the field the boys were terrific and dismissed Basingstoke for 42 in only 6 overs! Key to this success was some excellent fielding from everyone that included two run outs and two top class low catches by Isaac. Our wicket takers with one each were Armand, James and Isaac.
Once again well played boys, 9 points from a possible 10 so far this season.
